I'm machining the lower control arm shafts for more caster and hope to have the front done in a couple of weeks. I'm gonna start a build thread on it then. Stay tuned. |
Re: How about some pics of Static dropped 60-66
Here is mine. 5" CPP drop springs in the rear. 3" CPP drop springs in the front that have been cut down 'a little'...
I'm actually in the process of going thru the front suspension with drop spindles to improve the suspension geometry. Ball joints look like the buttons on a fat man's coat! http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...Y/DSCN4323.jpg |

17x7 on 225/60-17s in the front, 18x8 on 255/55-18s in the rear.
I love the look and it actually rides pretty good. |

Re: How about some pics of Static dropped 60-66
Thanks, I'm running p235/75r15. My buddy jusspassnthru is running a smaller tire and it looks lower but I like the bigger tire.

Re: How about some pics of Static dropped 60-66
Hey, I got a 64 GMC w/ rear leafs. I'm kinda new here, where did you get lowered leafs or are the garage built? Or does anyone know of a flip kit for the rear? Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

(shackle flip is a 4X4 term) There are drop shackle kits available that are essentially longer shackles for the back of the spring. Drop leaves are also available and between the two you can drop the rear of the frame to the point of needing a "C-notch" on the frame. :banghead: HOWEVER... "C_notching" a leaf sprung frame is HIGHLY inadvisable since the back of the leaf sprung frame is an integral part of the structure of the suspension while a coil sprung frame is not.... :gmc2: Many people don't know that 63-66 GMC were not sold from the factory with coil sprung rear suspension so almost everything available for the 63-66 trucks is for the coil rear suspension. You could swap to a Chevy frame but that is quite a bit of work, but then you would have the coil/trailing arm suspension that tons of stuff is available for. :metal: Hope this helps. :5150: |

I'll have to dig around for a pic I had on the flip kit for the later leaf spring trucks (73-87) cause I think it would be doable to fab something similar for your truck. Seems a flip and losing some leafs with a frame notch will get you down on the back end. I'm doing a 4" coil spring / 2" block drop on my 62 C10 with a notch. 3" coils and 2 1/2" drop spindles on the front. I have to wonder when it becomes necessary to raise the bed floors & tubs within the fleetside bed box? keep us posted... FOUND the pic bob |

Beautiful truck Steve. What tire size and drop?

Re: How about some pics of Static dropped 60-66
Coker 235/70/15, cragar 15x8, cpp 3 inch front drop springs, 5 inch rear. Just got the cpp disc upgrade and drop spindles, probably going to throw a 1" or 2" block out back.

Re: How about some pics of Static dropped 60-66
Thanks, I have the same CPP kit and will buy the spindles soon also. I look forward to seeing yours done. Great tire size.

Check with CaptainFab on this forum. He has supplied several special suspension and steering pieces to friends of mine and everything was top notch quality. If this is what all of you kids are calling a flip kit.. captainfab can probably help you out. :5150: |

THat's what I was thinking about when I asked about a flip kit, to flip the axle above the leaf springs. I've seen them for late model trucks just not earlier trucks. I'll look up CaptainFab and check him out. Chopboogie |

I'll look at this option, I'm comfortable with some minor fab work, body work scares me. It will be a couple months before I have anything to post. I hope to get started then when the weather breaks a little. I got a 4 month old plus 2 other kids, trying to keep them and mama happy leaves just a little time to play in the shop. Chopboogie |
