First of all congrats on your baby hope everything goes well , as far as your brakes go did you check to see if your caliper sliders are not hanging up or maybe just a bit dry if you used antisieze some times with the heat it looses it lubricating quality you might want to try a synthetic brake lube. I had that problem when i used to race the heat would melt the antisieze and the calipers would hang up

Re: 51' 3100 build in PA New to Site

I used anti seize on the caliper bolts and never lubed the caliper, perhaps thats the problem, they were brand new and have maybe 1500 miles on them. thanks

having even touched my truck. Weather has been crap, and I been trying to get my garage up. I'm getting closer though. Plus every vehicle I own needs work done. ahhhhhh always something. Did come across a few more trucks though. Found a pretty nice 51' that I am thinking about snagging. Gots a rebuilt 235, 3 speed and open rear end, new patch panels and overall pretty solid. May hold off till spring though, but the deal is too good to pass up.

 you better just get a place to work first.:smoke: I just got the roof on a job I've been working on. It feels good to get the tar paper on and the heat cranked.:devil:I'm as bad as you aways looking to save the next truck; for the right price

Nice build man, love the stance. Im currently in the process of deciding how far off the frame I want to mount my cab, a lot of ppl range from 3.25 to 5 inches. Im leaning more toward 3 cause I want it low. Great job man, mines got that same patina. It was originally a green color.

Jwright, thanks I think 4" is a nice happy medium off the s-10 frame. Post a pic of your truck.

If you want it low put some bags on it.;) Then your stance is adjustable.:smoke: Came really close to getting a tee shirt the other day. I like the patinia one. Hows the garage comin along?

daverod, yeah baggin is great but a big price and time difference. Don't get me wrong I'm all for it. Doing one next actually. As for the patina shirt. I'm actually going to be reworking that shirt, so its prolly good you didn't order it. I also got another shirt I just finished for something I'm trying to start called the Rescue Network, hoping to have a site for it that will be blog driven and or something like craigslist, where people can post stuff that is going to be scrapped and or thrown out, or whatever they want that pertains to antiques in general.

Garage is getting close. The closer I get the less excited I actually am cause its gonna be small. But I'm trying to stay positive about it. Just wish I would have done something different and did an all wood garage that way it would be bigger. This one I got for free, but I had to spend multiple weekends tearing it down, and now super multiple weekends prepping for it to go up and I already have about 1k into it. I need alot more to finish it.

1-14-13 Well its another new year. Haven't posted in a while. Had the truck out for a bit. Tinkered around with some stuff on her, getting ready to drive it to pittsburgh next week for the autorama world of wheels show Jan 25-27th at the David L. Lawrence convention center downtown. It should be a blast. Gene Windfield should be there and lots of cool local cars and trucks. Its obviously indoors. I posted some photos on here from last years show. I will be having a booth for my company as well, so I been working OT getting ready for the show.

1-21-13 Well, drove the truck down to pittsburgh today 100 mile trip. What a voyage that was. Probably under 20 degrees and snowed off and on. I stayed off most of the interstate because of the roads. So I went the long slow way. Getting about 15.5 mpg. Truck goes ok in the weather but definitely didn't like driving in it. Stopped at lowes to pick up some materials. Been getting ready for the Autrama world of wheels in Pittsburgh this coming weekend 25-27th. I'll have a booth for my coffee brand and my truck will be in it. Can't wait to be over with it cause it's been non stop stress, money and last minute prepping.

Hopefully get some other build threads going soon. Just want to have some more content for it. I'll post photos of the autorama show. Should be a blast. Gene Winfield should be there, looking forward to that.

Good luck at the show. Looked like a fun trip. Not bad mpg.Do you use a ramp to get in the garage door?

How did the wippers and heater work? What did you use for a heater? I know it was a after market one.

Re: 51' 3100 build in PA New to Site

Well, I wasn't towing the truck down because my trailer is not legal for towing right now, my rear end in my silverado is going bad and I wanted to put the miles on her. I was def not happy with the snow and salt and yeah Im def washing her. Today is suppose to be a high of 7 deg though.

The heater I forget the brand name, seen them several places. I got the heater, switch, hose and defroster vents for around $200 from classicparts. Works pretty good, has 3 speeds. However, when your flying down the road with all my neglected window and door treatments, its still a bit chilly. When I come to a stop I can feel a little bit of the heat. Wipers are from Newport, made in the USA version. They are "OK" only two speeds. I have to see if I can adjust the drivers side a bit because it doesn't have full stroke. Pass side does though. Def glad I spent close to $200 on them too cause I def used them. Just could have used some pissers though. But I don't plan on taking her out in this weather much. I only did it because I missed last years show because of weather.

lastly, daverod. I can't drive a vehicle into that bay. Its just a big garage that I have a skate ramp in and the other half is a bunch of my parts and tools. Thats in pittsburgh. My garages, other parts, all my projects and other tools are up north 2hrs.

Really glad I got to check out your truck at the show this weekend. Looked great! Didnt see anyone standing around so dont know if you were near by or not.

Also I believe my buddy took some pictures with his fancy camera so I'll post them up once he gets them on his site.

layin frame, yeah man that is cool. I was there everyday, I was just stuck in my booth. I was the fist vendor in the lobby as your walking into the downstairs section of the show.
Too bad i missed you. I did get to meet malibob, dude from flop customs, fritz again (has the 54' gmc on here) and seen some trucks that I'v seen in person and or followed their build on here. I'll be posting plenty of pics.

1-29-13 Well, what a week it has been drove down in a snow storm, had starter stick several times cause of the teens at best weather, then after show drove back in a foggy rain and had a headlight go out.

But the world of wheels show went great, lots of cool rides. Won a trophy, not sure what for since I missed the ceremony and the trophy had nothing on it. But I was told a tech school made it and picked my truck, for what I don't know. Sold lots of tees and coffee at my booth.

More pics coming,

Also very excited to have met Gene Windfield, nice guy. They had a demo on chopping all weekend. Got a nice entry plaque too. There is a pic of my booth, ran out of time so I couldn't really get it exactly how I wanted, but next time I'll be more prepared.

Here is a really dope pontiac I liked, owned by a local guy. This car, along with Gene and slew of other stuff was upstairs. I was downstairs with my booth and my truck. So their is alot of stuff going on two huge levels at the convention center. Would like to maybe hit up Cleveland and Detroits either this year or next.

98' photo looks awesome man thanks, you can see the salt stains from my truck on the floor, the salt made the patina look even cooler, but it was killing me to see it on there. I was sooo happy to finally put her back in the garage, this weather has been nothing but trouble for me.

Yeah he likes taking HDR (high dynamic range) images. It can really bring out things like that in an image.

And sorry to hear about all the problems youve been having with the truck. Hope you can get all the bugs worked out eventually.
