I also started making some new front firewall panels with a lil bit thicker abs this time around since the first set I made buckled a lil bit from the Oklahoma heat and cooling cycles for the two years he was stuck there :/ . I also started putting together the chassis wiring harness as well and its nearly ready to install. Just waiting on the money to get the body guy over to fix a few holes here n there and the cab door seal lip on the driver side. Once he is finished its all going together and will be ready for when the engine and trans are finally set in place and wired up.

I also in the last few days have got some of my stereo stuff in for the truck. Today I got my 4 inch focal audio component set with adjustable crossovers for the speaker pods I am working on. Also yesterday got the head unit in for the dash. Next week will be wiring the head unit up and getting it ready to mesh in with the chassis harness. The focal 4 inch speakers are a marvelous fit for the old vent housings will be taking the plastic acrylic panels over to the plastics shop and having them cut the panel holds for the speakers in a couple of weeks. Next after that will be peel n sealing the pods to help cut down vibrations in them and get them finished and ready for installation.

Got a few more things on the interior started last week and coming along nicely. I dropped of the gmc dash cluster and a few other things at the plastics shop since I was not making any headway getting the right size holes cut into it for the gauges and ac vent and I was wasting my time they were lots less expensive then the headaches I was putting myself through lol.

Here are a couple of pictures of what I have been up to last week.
Working on some risers right now for the bmw seats to bring them up a lil higher in the cab.

been gathering stuff together to start getting the interior finished up. I have the riser blocks ready for the BMW seats now and a few other lil pieces came in as well. Three weeks till Portland swap meet and I can hunt up some other things I am needing for the truck.
Today I got the gauge panel back from the plastics shop and its nearly complete just need a couple more indicator lights to put in it and it will be complete :D

Well one thing down and another started lol. Gauge panel is 100 percent done and ready to install. Waiting on the body guy to get his work done and will be installing the full interior into the truck. Just started installing the wiring harness and getting it cut to length as well that is going well still need to find a couple of BMW seat heater switches for the convertible seats to get them finished up.

some pics of the harness install have to pull it back out once its cut to length to put the connectors in such in place. But turning out very very well for a nice junkyard find with a little reworking ;-) next step once this is all complete is to find a spot or several under the hood for the engine fusebox, mega fuse box, and three controllers lol.

been busy the last few weeks since I posted. The interior harness is nearing completion still tracking down a few more oddball connectors here and there for it. Tuesday going to combine all the ground wires into a Delphi splice pack for all the circuits to have one or two central grounding points. It is turning out beautifully still have to add in the seat heater circuit power wires and find a place to stash the BMW adjustable switches as of yet. Will be getting to getting the dash trimmed out for the new dvd deck and tweeter speakers as well.
The button in the last picture is my dimmer relay buttong which is taking the place of the old cigarette lighter assembly :D turned out looking sweet.

Tonight I have been working on getting the speaker pods nearer to being complete got to still drill a few holes and find a couple of ac compressor coupling electrical connectors for them but turning out very sweet. once they are assembled will wrap the metal sections in peel n seal and install them in the truck. I still need to get the grills media blasted and painted how I like.

While trying to save money started another lil project to keep me going while other irons are cooking in the fire. Landed an 89 suburban 4x4 recently for assisting a lady clean up her dads estate so been working on getting that going since it needs a trans rebuild due to no reverse gear :/ Last night started cutting out the metal for the engine cover and today started working on figuring out how to get the air cleaner set in place and braced properly. I got the air cleaner braces started or at least a template of them looks like I will need a little thicker aluminum bar to get rid of the flex I noticed while mocking it in place. Take a look any ideas are welcome :D Will also be raisng the engine covers so its closer to the air cleaner cover assembly and get rid of some of the gaps.

Is that huge plastic thing the air cleaner? I've not seen anything like that.

sdwolff98 05-28-2015 11:25 PM

Hey Captn,
Yep stumble across it in a junkyard it's out of a Mercedes sl500 dual inlets and air filters I am playing with to see if it'll work lol

With my sons help we dropped the engine back in the truck and voila beautiful superb the 67-71 bbc mount stands are perfect in the frame dropped then engine in right where it needed to be without a hitch!!! Also dropped the engine wiring harness in place and started getting it routed and cut down for final install. Computers are also installed as well.

I like the concept of the intake. The biggest issue I see, depending on how the rest of it routes, is that it will be sucking rising hot air right off the header area. That's assuming that what your photo shows is the entire piece. Knowing Mercedes though I'm assuming there is tubing that would run to the front of the vehicle leading to fresh air intakes. Kind of like in the photo below:

So I take it, there is no firewall clearance issues with those '68-'71 BBC engine mount brackets?

Re: 1964 GMC 3/4 ton build :D

Captain
Fits perfectly just enough clearance between the body and the valve covers that I don't have to massage anything I have about 1/2 inch clearance on the back of the Allison under the floor pan so I may have to have the body guy lift up a small section of the floor about 1/4 inch at the back of the trans hump.

Started covering the interior panels the other day also.

Sean

also after having the engine set in place the Mercedes air cleaner Idea went splat not enough hood clearance for it :/ oh well back to the experimentation drawing board and see what I can work up for it lol :D

also after the engine was set in got the fuel injection harness all cut down to length still have to tweak a few of the transmission connectors in where they leave the main harness at but all in all looking good. The interior harness is also nearing completion will be installing it after the panels are covered and laying it out into place and finishing it up.
