Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
I was pretty set on my plan to modify and use the aluminum adapter but I'd be interested to read more on using the dodge adapter. Would be good to compare to my plan for the chevy aluminum one.

Here is a thought on clocking, this add ended but it was drilled for clocking.

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Big Ugly got a new pair of shoes.
http://jase-ace.com/public/photo/196...s%20-%2001.jpg Wheels are Wheel Vintiques 16x8 with a -1/2" offset, and tires are Toyo Open Country MT. After deliberating between lots of different tires options I finally decided on the Toyos because they had great review, both on road and off road. So far on the street they are great and super quiet. I'll test them out off road next weekend at pismo and through some mountain trails. http://jase-ace.com/public/photo/196...s%20-%2006.jpg |
Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Looks awesome! What size are the tires? 315/75's?

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
SCHWEEEEET Looks like it's ready to tackle whatever you throw at it. Looks good man.

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
I feel as though it has been forever since I've posted any progress with or photos of the pickup. Maybe that is because I haven't made any progress....? :)
I made some front and rear hitch receivers, and integrated a pair of stock 60-68 front tow hooks in both front and back. Here is the front: http://jase-ace.com/public/photo/196...h%20-%2001.jpg http://jase-ace.com/public/photo/196...h%20-%2002.jpg http://jase-ace.com/public/photo/196...h%20-%2003.jpg http://jase-ace.com/public/photo/196...h%20-%2005.jpg The rear is the similar, but it is nearly impossible to see in this crappy nighttime photo. The rear has longer frame mounts to take more eccentric loading from a trailer. http://jase-ace.com/public/photo/196...h%20-%2002.jpg I also chased down an issue with my hydraulic clutch that has been haunting me for months. I couldn't get the clutch to fully disengage, and I looked into cylinder piston ratios and lever arms and leaking cylinders and everything. Then this morning I had my gf push the pedal while I took off the slave boot and looked at the piston. Turns out it was bottoming out on the circlip before the clutch could fully disengage. The solution was to whip up a longer pushrod out of some bar stock. It took all of abour 15 minutes to cut it grind it and install it. Now I can actually shift through the gears smoothly. But boy do I feel like an idiot for not looking at this sooner. :waah: I also lengthened the exhaust pipes and moved the mufflers backward out from under the cab. It made things noticeably quieter inside the cab (which has zero sound or heat damping). Now without the reverberation of the cab I can actually differentiate between the sounds of the Flowmasters, the transmission gear whine, and the slight exhaust leaks at the manifold flanges. It still drones on the highway turning 2,600 rpm so I'm thinking of swapping to some Dynomax Superturbos to quiet things down a bit. |
Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Just add some tail pipes it will cure the drone noise in the cab, I had to do the same thing to the 65.

Nice work!

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Started modifying one of my NV4500 tailhousing adapters to mate up with the round NP205 with short 32 spline input. The pilot bore in the adapter isn't quite deep enough to clear the input seal retainer bolts, or the retainer itself, from the NP205. Depating whether to bore the adapter deeper or shave down the seal retainer and clearance the adapter for just the bolts.

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Put my truck on the scale at the metal scrapper today. Practically a featherweight at 5,200 lbs.

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Had the nicest DMV person ever helping me on Friday. Of the six things she helped me with, one was getting these black and yellow plates assigned to my pickup.
http://jase-ace.com/public/photo/196...s%20-%2001.jpg Now I'm just waiting to get the tabs and the tags in the mail. |
Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Lookin GOOD Jason, I see you putting that truck to work.....
|
Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Thanks Randy. I've been keeping tabs on your progress as well.
Hauled a few loads the other day. Metal to the scrapper, a yard of sand, 10 bails of straw. I'll tell you what, a short bed gets filled up pretty quickly. |
Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Finished grinding on the nv4500 tailhousing this morning and got it situated on the NP205. I switched over to button head bolts to keep the grinding to a minimum.
http://jase-ace.com/public/photo/196...g%20-%2001.jpg http://jase-ace.com/public/photo/196...g%20-%2002.jpg I'm also contemplating using these big ol' west coast mirrors when I get my "new" doors mounted since they already have the holes for them. They need some repair to the bottoms of the rails, but nothing major. What do you think? Its either this or using an original cast type mirror arm on the driver's side only. http://jase-ace.com/public/photo/196...s%20-%2002.jpg If I don't use them I guess I'll sell them. |
Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
If the replacement doors already have provisions for these mirrors, I'd run them just to see how you like them. Having more rear view is always nice, but for me when I ran these they wouldn't behave. Always out of adjustment, and were generally a PITA. That was my experience, your mileage may vary.
What's up with the current doors? |
Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
I like the look of west coast mirrors on a 4x4, just makes it look more like a TRUCK

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project

Re: 66 4x4 my sons new project
Scored a sweet deal at the Turlock swap meet over the weekend! For $80 picked up a Hi-Lift jack, with handle keeper, off road base, winch kit and handle-all tool kit. Lub'ed everything up and it's working as smooth as butter!
