I also filled the firewall hole I cut out to mock up the column. And did some rust repair to the drivers side A pillar. Next on the list is repairing that dvr side cab corner, welding in the dash, and building some bracketry for that Fulton visor.

Re: 49 ls1
Chris, bracket looks good. Never seen a door pillar rust in those areas, but there's a lot I haven't seen...Jim

Re: 49 ls1
cool cool, yeah I went with the newport from classic parts USA made one for like 200 I think, little steep but I didn't wanna dicker with anymore and that was the last main thing my truck needed when I finished it. I am however gonna maybe try some of the way less expensive motors you see out there, just fab up a bracket and see if I don't destroy something. $200 just to have a 2 speed wiper is a bit steep, but I wanted to support something usa made, the china one is 160. Looking good.

Re: 49 ls1
Thanks guys, This truck had a hole cut in the center of the roof, right above the windshield (I assume for an antenna). I'm sure that it allowed water and debris to run down the channels and settle on top of the upper door hinge. I found a lot of debris behind the metal when I cut out the rust.
Bear Claw latches and plates got here today, unfortunately I was sent a set of "small" latches instead of the large ones I ordered. Got it fixed, but I have to wait for the correct ones to get here. |

Got some work done on the dash tonight. Got the new Pro-Line vents and AC control panel from Vintage installed.

I had to get a little creative with the AC controls. I wound up cutting out the ashtray support, and building some framing behind it. I think it turned out kind of nice though.

I also welded in the delete panel on the other side of the radio, and slapped a little bit of dyna-hair over it. Next I have bear claw latches and one more cab corner to install.

Looking good Chris...Jim

looks cool, nice and subtle.

Re: 49 ls1
Thanks guys. I want it not to look too custom, just at second glance. That is the idea anyway.

I also installed my new large bear claw latches, and worked on door gaps. Got them fitting pretty good, need some tweaking on the forward edges still.

Re: 49 ls1
Great work fixing those gaps. That looks like a crazy amount of work.

Re: 49 ls1
Thanks Josh. Those damned doors never fit right. Always finding the happy medium, then fixing the frame to match.

Re: 49 ls1
Taking shape Chris, nice job...Jim

Finally got that drivers side corner in today. Did a bunch of door gap fitting, and some smoothing on the back wall of the cab.

I don't know why my replacement cab corners never fit the damned door frame. The gap always gets too wide at the bottom. Wound up slicing it, and adding a slim wedge of 18ga. to get the door gap correct on the bottom.

Re: 49 ls1
Just seems that's the way with replacement panels, one was OK on drivers side, but pass side was crazy off...Jim
|
Re: 49 ls1
Thanks Jim. Yeah it's kinda hit-n-miss with the replacement panels. My passenger side lower cowl fit great, but the drivers was all out of whack.
|
Re: 49 ls1
Great job on the rust repair. Looking killer, love what you did with the dash too.
