This AM I went out and looked at it, then went back to my coffee. In a few hours I might get out there and do some more soldering.

Received a 62 Nova auto shift indicator bezel for the top of the column, great non pitted original, looks like it was made for it. Wasted the afternoon making a plexi lense and chasing down letters for it only to have it melt down when polished. Went in and ordered a replacement online from Shiftworks, some things are better bought....

Finished soldering up the ground side connections, moved the rear sensor connectors around a little, started wrapping everything in split loom. Got a little ways to go but progress is progress.

I got up the courage to go out in the shop on the "warm" day to finish sand and put the first coat of sealer on my new cherry bed. Two more coats and I'll be ready to move on to the bed strips. :metal:

Today I finished the install of a clock in the dash and a new Retrosound Zuma radio. Clock is Autometer SportComp to match new dash cluster. I installed a new dual speaker replacement for the dash speaker and 2 new kick panel speakers. I had to use a universal face plate for the radio because the dash had been cut and enlarged for the old AudioVox cassette radio it replaced.

I washed it on the way to work and it looked too good to not snap a photo.

I know its a travesty, but I just graduated college and can't afford two trucks, so I took a chance and went with the one I really wanted. Its a little rough around the edges, but I'm fixing what I can whenever I've got the extra change.

I respect the commitment, sacrifice during the winter to have something cool in the summer. I just worry about the salt and what thats doing to it.

I know, and believe me I hear about it every time I walk in the corner store or gas station. Haha. But once I get an idea in my head I just can't be dissuaded, some people call it stubborn. ;). I'm taking every precaution I can to avoid rust, apart from not driving it, so don't hate me too much.

No it is not, I have always had an old car or truck as my DD. In my opinion a travesty is having something so perfect and precious it spends all its time in the garage or a trailer and you worry constantly that it will get damaged.

I had a friend that did a many year 100 point resto on a 71 LS7 Chevelle, took it to two shows, then sold it because the worry was more than the fun factor. Bought a good DD early 70's Hemi Cuda and drove it all the time....

I get quite a few comments about how I am "wasting" my 64 Chevelle and should turn it over to "someone who will treat it right", my response to the comments cannot be printed here.

It's metal, rubber and a little vinyl, drive it, fix it, repeat...

Thanks OrrieG,
That's my thinking too! Plus, my only other vehicle is a '74 MG Midget with no heater, haha. It's a pretty easy choice once it gets down to the single digits!

I drove it for the first time in 38 years, I had to take it to have it weighed at an official scale so I can register it with the DMV. It's been with me since 1972, out lasted my first marriage, had to tow it every time I moved. To say the least I'm excited.
