Seats got reupholstered and they came out real nice. They talked to me into doing a vinyl wrap around the center console and I really like it. They also used trunk liner on the inside of the console. Gives it a very nice clean look. Seat warmers went in both buckets and the rear bench seat. The buttons are flush mounted style with 3 settings. I went with the shops recommendation for the seat warmers (http://heatyourseat.com/product/3-se...tch-4-element/)
They have been using them for years and swear by them. They have a single power controller for 2 seats and a safety shut off switch built in. We decided to have the buttons mounted on the front and back of the console. Almost has a factory look to it. Overall, I'm very pleased with how they came out. |

The body was mounted using energy suspension poly bushings and we ran into a little issue with clearance on the drivers side for the spark plug wires. It needs to sit up just a tad higher to clear the spark plug wires. This could be the result of using a wire loom separator mounted horizontally along side the valve cover. I know the poly bushings run on the thinner side compared to OEM stock. I purchased these bushings a while ago, before Wes had his back into production.
Instead of shimming it, I decided not to even mess with it, so I called up Wes (classic Heart Beat) and ordered a set of body mount bushings this morning. Hopefully they will arrive before the weekend so we can resume. I posted a couple pics. The first one you can see the wire being push up against the firewall. |

We got the new body bushing kit from Wes and it now sits up much higher. The bracket I'm running along side the valve covers is still hitting the firewall so I'm going to find a different solution to routing the wires.
If anybody is on the fence of getting poly mounts or the ones made from Wes, do yourself a favor and go with the latter. I forgot to take a pic when I was at the shop earlier of the wires hitting the fire wall but I have some other progress pics Mounted the top to align doors, etc. and began repair work on many cracks (more than I originally thought). The windows have this aftermarket tint, but I'm going to remove it and leave it with the factory green tint. |

The drivers side door towards the fender has an abnormal gap (maybe material missing? ) I made indentation marks where you can see the gap that I'm referring to. Other than this area the gaps are eve. We're kind of puzzled as to what gives.

This thread is getting HOT!!!:devil:Looking good Mike. Keep it up!

Re: Attempting my first build 72 K5
Thumbs up Mike. I'm at a loss to explain the gap - maybe the door edge got slightly tweaked? I'd probably never notice it - will be lost in the beauty of the remainder.

Well, this has been a long time coming. I couldn't believe my eyes at first. I'll be taking it back to my place after the weekend and start putting everything back together. They have one final step of polishing left to do so I'm going to have to wait until Monday. I was really hoping to have it back for this weekend.

Finally, the K5 made it home! It's a little tight but I'll make it work. It has been, what feels like, the longest two years of my life. I'm really excited to get back to it and this is going to be the most fun part of the build.
While all this time in limbo, I would often think of making subtle changes or mods here and there out of boredom. So when the K5 was getting painted I had them do a few pieces to match. Sent the emblem out to get re-chromed. Only broke one of the tabs and was able to fold the rest back over. |

Been making a little bit of progress.
1. Installed a vibration damper (CLD) using Second Skin Damplifier Pro and then on then added another layer using their MLV noise barrier Luxury Liner Pro. The CLD was easy to install but the MLV stuff could be a little messy if you're not careful. 2. Instrument Panel installed. Had my original unit rebuilt by member Tom (TBONE1964) and added the factory tach. 3. Radio, Ashtray and AC control and heater box inside the cab. |

I've been researching the speaker location for blazers and have found there are "three locations" 1) under the dash (connected to AC controls) 2. Some Blazers have on top of the dash like the pick up if you have the center vent 3. Allegedly if you had rear side panels there was one behind the pass side seat.
#3 is out regardless if that is correct.. I think mine might have originally come with the top of dash bc I have have the center vents for the speaker. Does anyone have any pics of how this is mounted if it is supposed to be top dash mounted style? |

The Factory Assembly Manual refers to the L Shape tube as a "shaft" (#21) in the diagram. I found the metal piece ( also referred to as crank from others on here) that slides into the shaft and attached via a screw. (#3) "Cap" and (#4) "Bearing" stated in the diagram is where I am lost.
The Spring (#2) Looks like it attaches to the top side of the cowl and the other end connects to something, I have no idea what, shown here in the diagram (#1) Valve ASM at the bottom right corner. What does this "Cap" (#3) look like? Is it available? Are there alternative options? What about the "Bearing" (#4) Is it available? Are there alternative options? Appreciate any help from the board. Thanks! |

Hey Mike -
Don't mean to hijack, but do you have the top bracket in this pic under your steering column? We both have 72 CST Blazers, and I cant find this part at all in the pile o'crap that the PO put in a few boxes from his initial disassembly. Its made me wonder if it was only on trucks pre 72, or trucks with manual transmissions. I say that because I have seen it called a 'pedal stop'. Appreciate any help you can offer! |

I think it's time for a little update. I've basically been a hermit in my garage all summer, but that's because I really want to get this on the road.
I cleaned up my heater and AC evaporator core box. Took it apart, cleaned it and painted it black using SEM Trim Paint. I swear that stuff is the best paint in a rattle can. Attachment 1683051 Attachment 1683054 I sent all my AC stuff out to Classic Auto Air in Florida (Compressor, Hoses, POA Valve, Exp Valve, AC Controls) and had them go through a refurbish or replaced with OEM. I ended up swapping out carburetors and adding a fuel pressure regulator. I went with this carb because it has the fuel inlets coming out the passenger side and this makes routing the fuel line much easier.
I used Summits SS braided lines and fittings for the plumbing Attachment 1683056 Attachment 1683056 Attachment 1683057 |
