I found a nice used roll bar for a stepside on craigslist. Now I can make my new diamond-plate bed and put that on top of some frame brackets for the bar and I will be solid.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
changed my toilet paper oil filter,, and drove over to meet my wife for lunch.
raced some guy in a mustang, went head to head, but carb ran out of gas. I need to put in a bigger electric fuel pump. This one is reliable, but cant keep the carb full at wide open throttle past 3rd gear. I have 5 gears, seven if you want to work the overdrive and shift a bunch. |

Bought more Rage, SEM touchup paint for the interior that got scratched during install and AC install gauge set arrived. Gearing for a push to get it on the road. Also found that the paint shop guy had been dealing with retired. Good news is the new guy quoted me sealer, bc/cc paint at about 1/2 the price previous guy did two years ago. Either prices have come down or someone was trying to upsell me. Or maybe my comments about looking at TCP and SPI online got the newbie thinking about some price cutting. Also got a lead on a paint booth for rent.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
First time using the truck for a 'long' journey. Only secondary roads.
Done 240km x2 (~ 150 miles x 2) to meet friends for motorcycle riding (only XT or SR500). Only problem has been on the way back, the radiator cap has collapse. 2l of coolant lost on the road. Average consumption has been 16L/100km -> 14.7 US mpg http://i18.servimg.com/u/f18/19/19/52/56/dsc03410.jpg |
Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2

Drove down to register my truck for "Back to the Fifties" car show this weekend at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. I was number 11,162. Over 11,000 pre-registered cars and trucks, pre 1964. Should be a great time, hope to see some of you there.

Installed a tachometer. Bracket from LMC, used an existing hole, ran a #10-32 tap thru it, nice little electric tach off of eBay. Wired it up and away ya go!

So Bebop; Do I understand that you rattle canned your truck with the Rustuliom Paint? that turned out pretty good...

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
lol. no, you are looking at someone else's post. Mine was done using traditional HVLP methods. I think you are looking at 57chevyman's truck...he's an ace with the rattle can...can hardly tell any difference at all.

After going to the Brothers truck show this am, got all fired up to do something to my '55. I had bought two stock steering wheels a couple years ago and fixed the cracks with epoxy putty and painted them. The one on my truck was OK, but the ones I fixed were real nice. So I decided fit one of them on. Also added a new black wrap to it.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
Fit the kick panel speaker grilles to the opening, had to relieve some of the side. Scuffed them and prepped for paint to match the seats. Was going to paint this morning but had to fight the chainsaw. The gas store I have been buying my no-ethonol gas from switched to 10 percent and I did not notice. Saw sat all winter with bad gas and would not start. I had heard all the hype about Seafoam and figured it was worth a try. That stuff rocks. Mixed it the Seafoam 50/50 with a quarter tank gas/oil mix. Put some directly down the carb throat. Primed the heck out of it and gave it a dozen pulls thinking it would get pulled into the carb. Let it set for a few hours, went out and it started on the fourth pull, smoked like crazy for a few seconds and now runs fine. Going to add a little to all the other small engines I have to clean them out.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
I got some well needed therapy in the garage today. First time touching it in over a year! My "five minutes" was about 3.5 hours and I didn't get much done. Wow, I am off kilter quite a bit, good thing I have extra parts because I cut the first window frame too short. :drunk: Yeah, like I said, if my "five minutes a day plan" turns into "Five minutes a week" it will get done a heck of a lot sooner than not touching it for a year!
But the second one around came out nice. It's so funny how you can twist and tweak these things unlike I remember doing years ago. Anyway, got the rear half of the frame tacked in there and the front lower piece raked back and in. Got the front piece ready to bend into shape and I'll do that next trip out to the garage. I put my Chuck Berry LP on the record player and then a few CCR LPs and American Graffiti soundtrack. :D That Chuck Berry was the very first LP I ever bought new. I got it at the JC Penny in the first mall I ever went into. My mom was probably there to get some new shoes or something and I of course was with her. Listening to it is a treasure of a memory for me. :D Brian http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...psgqz31ctj.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...psmidjeplg.jpg |
Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
Made backing board for the headliner and door panels. I have been using Allman Brothers for upholstery background music. First album I bought was Meet The Beatles. It and the rest of my records, slot cars and everything except my hunting rifle and fishing gear "disappeared" while I was in Basic Training. Also lost my tools and some spare car parts to theives that broke into my Dad's storage shed.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
I get a kick out of listening to my old albums. The only thing I don't like is the record player I have has no way to stack them like I use to under my bed when I was a kid. :D
I'd put five or more on there and go to sleep listening to them. Brian |
Re: What did you do with your truck today, take 2
I got the front half of the door window frame shaped, my five minute a day plan is better than nothing. :D
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps7mv2bnjd.jpg I also got my wheel covers in the mail sent from a friend on another forum, THANKS JOHN! http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/a...pshvmoaoqp.jpg Brian |
