Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
A good day out and great results.
I saw this on the back window and wondered if anyone recognised it or what is left of the truck. Originally a dark bottle green. Fitted with extra spring perches on the rear chassis. Fitted with access to reserve tanks on the bed side and in the cab. Truck could have had a colourful history. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pseb0p1pls.jpg |

I wonder if any of these guys from this club would recognise the truck and maybe have photos of it in its life in the USA? Would be pretty cool for Martin to add to his thread to show where it came from and where it ended up. |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
well it's helped out at least 3 trucks already , mine, Martin's and Rian's. I've had bits off Ian's that has help mine and also the old engine out of Martin's is in mine. Great how the parts keep being recycled

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
And I've got my name on a bottom control arm, so that will 4 trucks! It's a small world (at least in the UK)

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
I am so pleased I got in contact with Dell . I originally contacted home about a big back window inner section . Unfortunately it was to rusty to salvage , but we got chatting as you do when you go to another guys house when they have three trucks . It was at that point he said he might break the grey truck if the guy on Sunday didn't buy it . That was three weeks ago . So I made him an offer for the cab and one door but also telling him that a friend would be interested in the other door . On the day we arrived I then told him we had two other people interested in parts . It did seem a shame to break it but he had already removed the rear axel for his blue truck . The rest is history

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well let's start with a couple of pictures of the under side of my new cab
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psf5ffx3uz.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psh717jc2j.jpg The more I look at the new cab the happier I am . The only thing was I had spent a small fortune on repair panels ,so after speaking to Ian and Paul both members on this forum . Ian said he would have the repair panels off me , and Paul said he would like a section of the cab ,from the filler cap to the front of the rocker So operation cut up began . Thankfully Rian said I could borrow the plasma cutter . Wow that thing makes light work of cutting up things . So as I cut out the new panels for Ian that I had already welded into the cab . Paul.y turned up took a look at the section he needed . A deal was done and we started cutting out the section he needed . Unfortunaly my photographer (Grizz) had the day off , but Paul did take a picture of the section so I am sure some of you who follow this thread also look at Paul's thread Well the old cab went into the trailer easier then the new one http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pseohvhyte.jpg I kept the roof section in case anyone in the UK needs to repair one . If not Rian will probably turn it into something interesting http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pspaxbrl8f.jpg I also removed my old dash panel as the one new cab is really bad The dash in the new cab http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps94q7jays.jpg The dash from my old cab http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pshc8uqolt.jpg After cleaning up all the mess. I Spoke to Ian and asked him , how far away he was from Bentley Newcastle , as one of the other fitters at work was going to put a set of hand controls on a new Bentley on Monday, he told me he was going to be about 15 minutes from there on Monday . So I loaded up the car and drove 60 miles to Duncan,s house and dropped off the box of parts . He asked if I was driving that far would myself and Amanda like to go for dinner with him his wife and daughter plus Matt one of our other fitters . We said yes . Amanda was happy that I had spent the whole day cutting up the cab so brownie points earned going out for dinner The box of parts at Duncan's waiting to go in the van Monday http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps22dtlp9x.jpg For those that don't know Newcastle is about 300 miles each way so a big thank you to Duncan , saving Ian the cost of a courier and getting the parts to Ian sooner it's handy doing jobs all over the UK somtimes |

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well just a quick update .
I spent some of the weekend getting the carport ready . The plan is to swop the chassis and the cab over . The chassis is in my garage , but with the bench and engine and tools in the garage there isn't enough room to work on the chassis . So I put up some shelving in the carport to store some of my parts . I then moved everything around ready to put the cab in the garage . Then I wil put the chassis into the carport and start painting and fitting all the new parts onto it . So Sunday morning I loaded up my car to take the old roof panel to Rian's as well as the inner rear section as Rian's has been cut to fit speakers , in case he wants to repair his . The roof will be stored at his due to him having a lot more space . If someone needs it we have it as it may get someone out of trouble . http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psovl1epjf.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psq2sx3o7h.jpg Rian doing a good impression of a tortoise http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psdirx8cig.jpg http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psfalk3wml.jpg So after next weekend I hope to have everything swapped over and make a start on the chassis |

I will be at Martin's place early on Saturday morning (maybe 08.00 to spare the neighbours some sleep) for the day. We need to swop his engine, gearbox, suspension, axle and chassis out of the garage, into the back yard, then get the cab out the carport, into the deep end of the garage, followed by engine, box etc....... Then get the chassis back into the carport, upside down with X-member attached (possibly removing it) onto axle stands, but also with the rear axle going in first, between his bikes and the chassis so that it is available to be fitted once the chassis is prepped and painted...... Are you keeping up?? If any UK guys want to join us, even for a while, later in the day to help move that chassis...... PM Martin or me Looks like things are going to start moving right along now for Martin. |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Sounds like a cracking day! If only I wasn't 300 miles away I'd love to help

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well tonight I got home from work and made a start on tomorrow's task . First off I removed the cab from the carport on the trolley then I finished fitting my shelves .
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pst7vbvyab.jpg I then fitted some hooks on the shelving , so I could hang the radio on the wall . Need to have some music on with all the late nights I will be doing http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psmej9e8k2.jpg All I need know is the chassis http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psbsbl6lgx.jpg Well all ready for Rian and Ian tomorrow to get the chassis in the carport. Then the work can start . It will good to get the assembly underway . I ordered my paint from Frost for the chassis on Thursday 2 quarts of Por 15 grey for the chassis and I quart of black for the wishbones and axel and trailing arms . |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Looking forward to seeing the chassis work. And I've got to have some music on too, helps pass the time and keep progress flowing while working!!

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well Rian turned up at 8am . I was already up and waiting to get started . First we emptied the garage out read to move the chassis. With most of the usual stuff out of the way ie lawn mower, push bike tools and a V8 engine and box the stuff you kind of find in most garages. We moved the axel in first so it was the right end of the carport .
Max wondering why he just doesn't pick it up like a bone and carry it into the carport http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps8zug6r0x.jpg After moving the axel my stupid Rottweiler Bow decided to get on Rian's lap http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psofiuynvs.jpg Next after Rian had finished cuddling the dog we moved the chassis into the garage using the skateboards again, sorry no pictures as it was heavy to move and take a picture at the same time . All in the carport ready for prep and painting http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psrimcmoek.jpg Then just as we finished moving the chassis there was a knock at the front door , it was Ian coming over to help . His timing was perfect . Next job was to get the cab into the garage http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psg4i4vssd.jpg Well it fitted http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psg9szevqw.jpg Rian took this picture of Ian I know he has a bit of wood in his hand and looks threatening but he isn't http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psuj330sfp.jpg Once we got the cab into the garage we hung the doors for safe keeping as it's going to stay in there until I have prepped , painted and fitted all the new parts onto the chassis . http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psfoq1or2r.jpg So the next few months I intend to paint the chassis sandblast the front wishbones assemble the ball joints , clean up the axel and trailing arms then fit my new fuel tank and so on . So I guess I am going to be busy my main aim is too have a rolling chassis before we come out to the states in October So Keep Watching |

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Well I got home this afternoon,to find that my paint had arrived . So I guess I will be starting on the chassis this weekend
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psqlcrhqdx.jpg At the cost of £100 or about $150 for these three tins .I hope there is enough with 2 x grey for the chassis 1 x gloss back for the suspension parts |

Great progress Martin, how are you planning to prep the chassis?

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Popped around to Martin's place on the way home tonight.
He had asked me to come and help him make a video clip of the latest X-Box adapted hand controls for a different Paraplegic friend. So good to see this sort of thing happening. Delivery and setup hopefully next week. |
Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"
Posted in the What did you do today thread, but the amount of POR-15 you have should be plenty to coat your frame and chassis parts. You'll likely not even tap into the second grey can.
You might consider a POR-15 topcoat since the main coating is UV sensitive, and will dull/brown over time when exposed to sunlight. One can of the top coat should cover the frame pretty easily. |
