btw, this block came with what looks to be oil cooler lines? not sure yet what to do about that. most 5.3 swaps the block is tapped into by the oil filter but this one has lines coming out? i still have more questions then answers as usual!! 1 step at a time though...

I left the hardlines and flared the ends and used a universal tranny cooler from B&M

looking good you will not be dissapointed oh and if you could take extra pics of the brp motor mounts i want to go with those next time.

Just a note, Not sure if you knew or not, but you are gonna have to remove the convertor from the flex plate and install it in the trans before bolting the transmission back up, when you install the converter back in the trans, turn it a few times as you push in so that it lines up with the Pump tangs, if you go to install the trans and can't get the bellhouseing to mate up with the block w/o forcing it, the converter isn't in enough, DO NOT use the bellhouseing bolts to pull the trans to the block. It will ruin the pump.

 thanks John! i asked around and even had a thread to make sure how and if i had to take that darn tq. converter off and reset it. thanks for the heads up though.

works still trying to kill me! thousands of pounds of crabs cracked and cleaned today and through the weekend. good times... i did get a small promotion as 2nd man in charge in the dept. so my schedule will be pretty much set for the most part;) no progress to report but i'll be off wednesday and thursday and hopefully get the motor finished, mounts ordered, some of the fuel system parts ordered, and get the tranny cleaned and painted and bolted back together! probably wishful thinking since the weathers supposed to be really bad but we'll see...

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

Congrats on the promotion! This has been a fun build to follow, keep it up. What else are you planning to do under the hood as far as color on things?

menace121978 12-06-2009 11:21 AM

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

thanks Gerald!

as for the colors... i dont know yet. i know the covers will be body color. the firewall smoothed and body color and the insides of fenders body color(metallic red jewel) to tie everything in. im just playing it by eye and your suggestions!;) the a/c box, brake booster, m/c, and core support either(probably gloss black) or body color. its gonna be tricky because all the body color stuff i want/ need done at a shop. all the black stuff i can do at home.

whatcha thinkin??

Sounds like trouble to me. :)
I think you paint the radiator support body color. Paint the stuff attached to the firewall, gloss black to match some of the other pieces. If you paint them body color they will hide in there a little more but I would worry about it looking like you wanted it shaved but took the "next best route". You know?

JohnC 12-06-2009 03:55 PM

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

I agree with Gerald. Have the core support, and firewall, and inner fenders body color. Then accentuate everything else with black of "silver".

Also :cong: on the promotion man!

Hey Menace, There was a recall on 6.0l chevy engines due to the air pollution in Californina. I myself just happen to be an expert and the program manager. What i am going to do is send you a 350/350 combo on a pallet and you send me a 6.0l engine and tranny complete with wiring. I will save you the heartache of smiling, and enjoying the modern technology which will soon be lurking under your 78's hood. :metal::metal::metal: HAHA...is it done yet.:metal::metal:

Wow, man. You've got a bunch done since last I checked in. Looks like it is coming along great. And congrats on the promotion.
The only advice I can give for your engine detailing is this--Did I miss if you are keeping the exhaust manifold? If so I think you should spend the money and have them coated. Cause they aren't gonna look so great after just a couple of miles. And that would be a real shame.
Also I think plastic stuff and most underhood stuff looks better semi black than glossy--especially things you don't want to draw attention to.
Also I'm a big fan of black crinkle powder coat--It would go really well with the silver and red.
