Me n Sandwiches take the truck out for a cruise in another video. We head out for a short drive to his place to get ready for another new video; caring for Satin / Matte finishes (coming up very very shortly). This one is just another ride around town, with a few different camera angles, and trying out the Superview wide angle feature on the new GoPro Hero3 Black+ that we just picked up as well.

Oh and thank to member C10Seconds for hooking it up with this brand new AutoMeter SportComp Wideband AFR Gauge and a new set of ARP con-rod bolts for a very very reasonable price!

And another thanks to LittleVictories for getting me an Inline -6AN Gauge-Port Fitting for putting a 1/8 NPT FP gauge right on the feed side of the rail...for a modest price of $Free.99

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq

When we built the seat brackets, we never painted them and I was tired of people the few half-visible welds and bare metal . Realistically, because of the existing shroud and the carpet, you'd never notice this...unless your crouching by the door. But it annoyed me, and I figured the under seat space would be more usable if I could put stuff under it without it falling out the sides or being seen. Things like my detailing kit or some jumper cables would fit great.

Because of this, I wanted to use the same leather/vinyl that I had been using on the door cards etc, since it matched my seats. BUT I don't have a sewing machine that could handle something that thick. I use a suuuper sticky adhesive (read my rant above on spray glues) and made a skirt for the seat.

http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psddf0fa2d.jpg
http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...ps55530ab3.jpg
http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1e1c229e.jpg

I use the glue to make fold over seams, then I can later butt the seams and make a corner, much like you would in normal upholstery. To get a crispy seam, I used a couple of clamps and some old duct cleating to keep it flat.

http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0a3ea8fd.jpg
http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psb6d849f6.jpg
http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psad479169.jpg

I tucked it under the rail, fit the edges snug, and used some hardware and some 3m doublestick to get a taught-enough fit. (excuse the handprints and crap everywhere, its not like i detailed the thing while I was doing it ;) )

http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psf684543e.jpg
http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psaacce3f0.jpg

I'll be adding a little carpet cover for the other part that still stick out (but can be removed easily just in case). Overall it fits snug and I'm pretty happy with it, and it adds an extra cubic foot or so of storage, which is always a plus.

As I was saying, content. Me and TransAmDan met up to deal with some Tuning issues in the '66, and took some pictures while we were out. I'll have new numbers soon to show you guys what we can do with tuning. I'm over having other people tune my sh!t, since my friends and I end up re-doing their tunes anyway.

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq

Did a major retune this past weekend. Ditched the MAF, instead switching to the "big dog" of HP Tuners...the SD-enhanced custom Operating system. This literally means throwing GM's hard work into the garbage, for what is essentially "hacked firmware" for a car. Its a bit more groomed than that, but truthfully, at its core thats what it is.

This allows the use of Speed Density tuning, something thats brought up here once in a while, usually in the higher performance discussions. This uses VE tables to create very precise fuel maps, foregoing flexibility and idiot-proofing, for maximum horsepower and control in the hands of the right person. In addition, running the enhances OS allows Live Tuning, or watching streaming data-logs and making changes in REAL time. As a Bonus, I can use it up to 3-bar, for when 1 atmosphere just isn't making enough power.

I'll go into more detail on SD tuning soon, but for now, just knows I be did-ing that.

I also modified my engine cover to work with the Fuel Pressure gauge I showed you guys in my last video installment...

SERIOUSLY, please Like, Comment and Subscribe to me on YouTube (Rev J HD) or follow me on Twitter @wtfREVJ. I enjoy doing these video's, but even the simplest ones take large amounts of time, and in many cases money. The more people that show they like our work, the more we can bring you guys in return. I work hard to bring this forum as much tech, pictures, video, and unbridled opinion as I can, and I need yall to show me some love back. We have SO much more coming, but the scale of it isn't possible without support for "Viewers Like You" (In telethon voice).

Also, I continue to extend this offer to anyone willing to come-on-down. If your interested in having your truck/car/project filmed, let me know. Anyone local who would like to do frequent build-updates would be great, but I'm also happy to do quick 3-7 minute "Fun" videos of your project for the channel.
I'm also willing to do more detailed work, including archival footage and documentation, in-depth automotive profiles, or filming of club/company/team track days or events (with a donation). Thanks for everyone who watches.

And PLEASE check out my YouTube channel and like and subscribe and stuff, it lets me bring more of this stuff.

I've got a new intake mod video, a wideband install video, a DIY dbw cruise-control instructional video, the awaited Line lock video, and a BUNCH more stuff on the way.

*on that note, we're getting ready to pick up a DSLR to shoot macro stuff so I can do more low-light and detail stuff on the technical shoots...and were still buying that damn quadrotor as some point too.

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq

Started working on a box for the air filter to help address the IAT concerns. Lots left to do, and of course, a whole video will be coming. Started with the "stock" heatshield that came with the ebay intake, but it didn't fit. I moved to using some cardboard for a template.
http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...pslehwggti.jpg
http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...pslu5oedov.jpg
http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...ps9wflty7m.jpg

Used some square tube and clamps for my bends. Then I could bend and trim any edges/tabs I needed.
http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psfvgyqasu.jpg
http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...pszs9rpawm.jpg
http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psdw0cjbql.jpg

The long filter will pass into the core support area. I rough trimmmed the support for the filters, this will get rounded out and dressed before anything is mounted.
http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psdjdsxpjh.jpg
http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psizfwpjrr.jpg

Added an old piece of the existing intake, as well as a 90* bend from an AirRaid BUI kit. I'll probably end up welding the tube sections together to eliminate that extra coupling. Set the box with a screw, and some magnets for the edge for now to mock up. Box is test fit in place. Gotta make the lid, dress the whole thing, coat it with heat reflective, and coat the piping.,

Thanks guys! Keep it coming, I've never won a TOTM with this baby, which is a freaking shame!

Worked on the intake again today a while.
Mounted the filter, got the box positioned around it.
http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psrfm4bc5q.jpg
Made and sealed the lid. One side screws down with insulated screws and seam tape to prevent chafing and rattling. Other side has thick foam tape that creates a snug fit. The lid kinda "snaps" down under the lip on the core support. You can view the filter by pulling the lid back, and taking it off completely only takes a few more seconds. Now I just need to put some finishes on the tubing and the box to make it look good.

A better lit picture. You can see the pipes have some scuff damage. Since I'm gonna paint them anyway, I decided to use a nylon brush I had, and semi-brush them to clean off the surface, and give me a unique finish until I get some paint on (in like a day lol).

Thanks gentlemen. Kinda in project limbo right now....don't know what the next move is. I've got stuff for a cruise control setup sitting here, as well as a front LED signal conversion letting me open up the nostrils for air...just not motivated.

Still messing with my turn signals. After having the "front brake lights" when I hit the brakes and the signals came on, I messed with the hazard switch and got a change.

Now it will signal Left (front and rear) just fine. Right will light the tail light up, but not blink, and the front does nothing. A member/vender who had the same chinese column suggested the turn signal switch is usually the issue...might be able to replace it with an 80's g10 switch. REALLY don't wanna mess with that, I hae getting at my column with where my wiring is, and I have no clue how to open it up to get at the switch.

GIVE ME MOTIVATION! please. Lol, someone kick my ass into figuring this out, especially if you know anything about the column switches.

Tried welding stainless for the first time today. Melts really easily, but that means its also easy to overheat. I had some issues with distortion on the thinner plates, and adding too much filler on the thicker stuff (it melts easily into the weld pool, so you end up adding too much filler when there was plenty already there). Aside from that, I got a couple decent practice passes in. Nothing in the weld-porn genre yet, but not bad for my first time on the torch with SS.

Thanks Mark! I'm limited in some aspects of my camera and resources etc, but I try really hard with what I've got to make a good "fit n finish" so to speak. I appreciate the comments, as I think my narration sets me apart from many "low quality" videos which are garbled camera noise and illogical structure.

I did another one with a project we started for that 350z you guys may have seen in one of my other videos. We build a quick drop hitch and mount so he could put a bike rack or grill on the car without it ruining the sportscar look when not in use.

Do you ever have any issues with the exhaust dumping in front of the fender. I'm looking to do something similar. Have you had any issues with discoloring the paint?

Thanks guys~!

The exhaust in that location is give and take. If you position the tips long engough and with enough angle, the force of the exhaust blows MOSTLY past the fender. However, when i shortened the tips up a little, I did notice some discoloration on the paint. Nothing permanent, just obviously dirtier when you wash it.
However, if your running real rich or cold starting, AND have short exhaust tips, AND didn't wash it often, I'm sure you could stain the paint in some way...kinda like cigarettes on teeth.

The other things to keep in mind are; that style exhaust runs OUTSIDE the fender, has NO crossover, and is limited to bullet mufflers. You can use a similar exit without using the entire style of exhaust, but the "J-Turn" to get the exhaust through the side is tricky.....the actual layout of things results in some tighter bends than are ideal. When I re-do it in mandrel, we are trying to take some of the sharp turns out of the path. Also, it drones a LOT on the hwy.

Do you think it drones a lot because is bouncing off the rear fender. I'm going fleet side. Wondering if it will cause a problem. The heat has no effect to the paint so far?

Well it doesn't bounce off the rear fender...it passes through the step, but doesn't really touch the step or the fender.

The droning is the result of running an LS motor with no crossover, small bullet resonator/mufflers, and a sharp-turning exit that lands directly behind the cab.

To eliminate the drone, I need to go mandrel bent, add a crossover, and possibly change the muffler style.

texasld 08-18-2014 11:47 AM

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq

I meant the sound waves bouncing off the fender. But that is some great info for when I get my LS fitted and the exhaust run.

BR3W CITY 08-18-2014 03:50 PM

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq

Well if you could dye the exhaust, the actual angle of the exhaust points past the fender. I'm sure it can echo a bit, but you don't really hear "body" drone, its purely the sorta-unusual sound of the shape and type of exhaust.

texasld 08-18-2014 05:10 PM

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq

Got ya! Thank you for the answers.:metal: I really want to do side exit exhaust, but I'm hesitant.
