Good job as usual Hot Rod.
Where does that put you in your NHRA points?
Oh the truck looks better with that tire too.

I think I ended up 12th in points at Baytown for the year . I was like 23rd and struggling . I like the tire better also . Today was the final double race for IHRA in Evadale , but it rained out already . They moved it to next weekend the 17th . Im second in points there . Heck , everything rained out pine valley , HMP , Evadale we even consider going to Ennis or San Antonio , but they have special events going on . We though about going to little river and decided against it this morning .

Re: New project

Well my run for the track championship is over . They rained the race out and ended the points . I tried to get a best 2 out of 3 , but no go . Bad part is we haven't gotten a drop of rain . Hell it was 99 degrees today .

Bracket finals for NHRA next weekend in Ennis , Texas followed by IHRA bracket finals in San Antonio the next weekend . Then the off season .

Re: New project

Well NHRA div 4 bracket final didn't go as planned . First trip foe my "wore out 7.3 " , got up there no problem . They went into rush due to weather , Thursday test n tune went like this .
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psppwn5ajs.jpg
Just so you guys know the first and fourth lines are weather around my 2 time trials (2 & 3 ) . Pulled up with no time trial Saturday and put a 6,55 on it . the results sucked .
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psd3fgcyx6.jpg
Anyway , im leaving for San Antonio either Thursday at noon or Friday morning before sun up . Shameless burn out pic .........cause some one is hopefully look at my posts .

That was a close race. You had a decent light and there aint nothing wrong with the et. The truck did what you told it to do. Good luck in San Antonio.

Re: New project

IHRA bracket finals in Marion , Texas east of San Antonio :

Let me start off with a bit of history . About 4 or 5 weeks ago I was talking with a buddy of mine who owns a specialty shop and works on nothing but Ford powerstrokes . I was having lunch and talking to him about Duallys Ford , chevy and Dodge . He mentions a customer who just bought a new truck and had his old one for sell. I end up with a 99' F 350 crew cab 2wd dually 7.3 . I am a big fan of the 7.3 . Anyway I am making the haul to San Antonio and it just feels down on power . MPG suck . Fuel feed line to the passenger head cracked .
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psfp6vvzwy.jpg
Appearently it is a pretty common failure as the Ford dealer in seguin had one in stock . 3 hours $63 later and I was back in business Saturday .
Got out to the track Thursday at 1:00 . Got parked and unloaded just in time for test and tune . Beams were tight . Like 6 bumps from pre stage to stage instead of the usual 8 . I was red in all test session took 200 out of the 2 step and was .045-.055 .
Friday morning I got 2 time trials and straight into a gamblers race where I lost first and second round due to my 40-50 lights . I was ready for a break after repairing the Dually between rounds .
Took a break saturday night and just rested up .
Saturday morning I knew I had to do something . Added 100 rpm back to the 2 step and put the old 33/13 in the tires and went for it straight out of the trailer no time trial . Bam .003 and 6.504 on a 6.49 dial with one solid womp about 400 foot . Man did I need a win . Ended up going to 14 cars and broke the planet in the trans (1.80 straight cut) , total bummer . Loaded everthing up and just hung out and enjoyed watching the finals with a few beers with the wife .
Sunday : watched a bit of racing then loaded up and headed home . Truck still had some air in the fuel line and it took a few mile to clean up . Got about half way home and the passenger rear tire on the trailer sheers all 6 studs . Tire takes off , hits an overpass and hits a young couple in an suv . No one was hurt thank God . Never found the tire . Anyway after the cops and report etc . I limp on the feader to a parking loot and scroung enough wheel studs and lug nuts from oriellys to patch it back together enough to get home . Kinda glad to have a break from the racing for a while .

That sounds more like one of my outings Hotrod. Sounds like you might want to go through all those wheel studs?

Re: New project

Ordered 24 new ones already . Wife wants a 32 with bathroom . I want a break from racing .

Re: New project

I just parked this thing til last weekend and took a break . Finally got it to the house and pressed the new studs in the passenger side hubs of the trailer , so that's fixed . Jacked the truck up and pulled the trans out . Thinking it is needle bearing for the planetary , we shall see . Took it to the guy that inspected it before I put it in . Hey , the way see it , I was winning until it broke . Also having headers built next week . Going forward and out the fenders in front of the tires . I'll get some pics of those after they are built . I also went to a swap meet north of me in Conroe , Texas and bought every luv part there , both of them a hood and a bumper . So swapping from a cowl to a forward facing scoop . Enough talking here are the pics .
Hood before :

Re: New project

Trans guy pulled the trans apart and said nothing was wrong and charged me $40 . Got me wondering what could have gone wrong . I reinstalled it with my BTE converter . Sent the ATI off back to ATI . Got the call today $340 . The local guy I used to fix the sprag only must have taken it upon himself to mess with the impeller cause they said it had been welded on and couldn't be saved it was messed up so badly . Should be getting it back middle of next week or so . I also pulled the Hooker conversion headers off this truck and stuck them on my blue truck . Im having fender exits built right now and then having them coated at polydyne inside and out . This will greatly help on transmission work . I moved all the wiring and swapped to a set of plug wires that go around the back of the heads and come up from the bottom . I pick it up tomorrow and will get better pics .

Looking good. Glad you're still doing well.
Did the tube length change enough to affect your power band much?
If so, will that be a better situation?
Really just making a post here to let you know I still follow your posts.

Re: New project

Thanks Lee , I think it will have to add some main jet to the carb . I bought a 950 HP and have it at the carb guy doing the E85 conversion now . If it moves the power up , it wont hurt me . the converter is 5200 . Here is a video.

Re: New project

finally found the noise I have been looking for. It was in the gear . Did my annual axle inspection and the gear oil was really dark . Brake pads were also ready to be changed . Axle spline look good .But this leads me to ask at what power level and weight should I be making a move to 35 spline ? Gear had like .052 back lash in it . and I think it is done .
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...pswup3pk7k.jpg

http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psdpm98k0o.jpg
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...pszdrsqf7k.jpg
And I serviced my pit bike .
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psaq738frd.jpg
So im pricing new 35 splines and a pro gear also . When is a pro gear required ? Strange says they are only good for 300 passes , which has me worried . I am pulling the housing out to pressure wash it and have it put in a narrowing jig to make sure it is straight . Im also going to have a back brace installed .

hotrod 80 01-06-2017 12:18 PM

Re: New project

Current situation . Nobody has any suggestions on moving up spline count on rear axles ?

Re: New project

Got a few things done a bit farther. Axle is finished . I had a drain plug added. The pilot holes in the spring perches were not the correct size to keep the axle square and were not deep enough . They were 1/2 pilot bolts , so I added a pair of 1/2id x 9/16 od bushings between the housing and the spring to keep everything straight . My strange aluminum case turned out tio be 3.060 bearing and I had already ordered 35 spline axles ( they will be here tueday) . I had to break down and buy a new case . Really feel like I should have gone aluminum due to weight , but I ended up with the steel one . I am into this project for over $2000 . Also got free shipping and 30% off at Aerospace for the brake pads .
Axle back brace and straighten -$300
Gear , bearings & case -$1050
axles bearing and studs -$525
Brake pads and parts -$119
Anyway here is current pile of parts .

I have tried 3 times to update , but photobucket must be messed up and after typing it all out 3 times I gave up the guy that built the headers for me is local to Baytown His name is Mclwayne Mc carty . His number is 281 628 3272. I am very happy with his work.

Re: New project

Test session at Royal purple this Saturday. My new HP XP is not really working properly . The o2 sensor was not working properly and and was telling me it needed fuel . I added 3 jets to the front and made a few passes . Reading the plugs I pulled those three out and then took 5 out of the rear . It was still rich . Rich to the point it was starting to hurt the ring pack . I changed the plugs and stuck my old 750HP back on it and bam .
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psare9spcy.jpg

I also had the alternator lock up last sunday in the semi finals . I fabbed a new driver side low mount and replaced the alt under warranty . I also managed to get the belt size right the first try .
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...pspka1gac6.jpg
Here are the plugs . The strap looks like I have a bit to much timing in it to me and I'm was rich.
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psfo5sk3vb.jpg
End result and this was without the alt charging which I fixed tonight . We run 2 day races the next 2 weekends and I think I have a truck that will compete if the driver shows up .

None , that's all motor both passes ! I put a plate on it to try and runs some 5.80 index stuff , but just don't have the time. I was just about to give up this weekend . I guess when the alt locked up it took the exciter (charge light) with it . Got the alternator fixed and put fresh plugs in it . You can see oil foul on the plug picture. I also too the 1000 off for now and put the 750 back on it to eliminate variables . I will do some more testing with the big carb first , but we race for the next 2 weekends . Actually I race for the next 4 weekends . Kinda been chasing my tail a bit with all the winter changes . Now the driver has to show up and race what I got .

Re: New project

This weekend was planned to be a double header Saturday and sunday . We got the time trials off Saturday and I won first round before the rain came . Next weekend will also be a double header with the finish of this Saturdays race run on Saturday .

hotrod 80 03-18-2017 03:53 PM

Re: New project

Didn't fair so well last weekend . Ended up going red 3rd round , but I got that figured out . I lined up for second round of the rainout race which they didn't give us a time trial for and the starter burned up . The weekend kinda started off bad with a flat tire on the trailer .
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psojvjc9u2.jpg
I also built baffles for the headers to kinda try and quiet it down a bit . Got a new starter installed and it is working great . Also about to put fresh tires on it . I am currently in the points lead at Evadale , my IHRA home track . We run there Saturday and sunday the 25-26. So far everything seems to be holding together and working good .Just another action shot .
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f1...psii4d3lli.jpg
Also got this thing out the other day and got it inspected and drove it around all day.

Re: New project

Wow , ran a double header this weekend at Evadale raceway and had a horrible weekend. Started out Friday night and was gonna just tighten the alt belt . Couldn't get it tight . Had to pull it apart and make a few mods . Finally got it fixed . Went to check the oil and the dipstick broke off in the block . Found a sheetmetal screw and RTV'd it into the remainer of the dipstick . Then noticed the wire from the solenoid to starter motor had insulation falling off . Fixed it . Worked on it til midnight . Got up at 6 am and headed out . About half way there rain . Then facebook said delay of gates opening . Finally got there and the truck is creeping forward when the brake is applied . I went red both time trials . I literally threw the kitchen sink at it and was .-017 red last time trial and .-.017 first round . Couldn't fix it . Get up sunday and decide to just footbrake the truck . GO to warn it up and break the nose off the starter . Borrow a starter from a buddy and I'm back in . Have not footbraked this truck I 4 or 5 years . ROll up under the back and thank god I wrote note on the underside of the bed in sharpie marker . Made a few adjustment and actually went to 5 cars and lost a race I should have won . had him covered on the tree and gave it back at the finish by .007 . Truck shoot out coming up Saturday . I'm running 10.0 index , then tear down trans fix dipstick and rear main seal . No racing til mid may .

regan wilson 03-28-2017 07:43 AM

Re: New project

Lol it sounds like you were probably just ready to set it on fire. You should be able to do pretty good on the 10.0 index.

hotrod 80 03-28-2017 10:55 AM

Re: New project

I am honestly ready for a break . I am putting fresh tires on it today and the caltracs were out of adjustment . Just one thing after another . I definatly would have taken a reasonable offer on it sunday .

Re: New project

Had a decent weekend @ HPT Texas truck invasion . Headed out Friday night and loaded up the Yellow truck . Had a buddy of mine Jay came by and grabbed my blue street truck . We went out to test Friday night then stay the night at the track and race Saturday and come home . Friday night we unload and the Blue truck goes 11.19 off the trailer! Mind you this is leaving at 2000 on a footbrake and shifting @6000 . This converter will go 2800 and it can be shifted at 65-6600 . I ask the tech guy if they will let us run 11.0 index tomorrow and get the big NO. No bars etc. I crank 16 turn in the restrictor plate and 11.93 ....we are in . Yellow truck I moved the 2 step to 4400 and the shift point to 7400 and it goes 10.05 . This race is .400 pro tree , so I swap to the reactor button. Thinking with a bit of spray if needed we should be good down there . We ended up doing real well . Won both 12.0 index and 10.0 index.

The time slip from the final . This was against a super gas 9.90 truck with all the electronics. I scrubbed 3 or 4 mph on this pass just to make sure I didn't break out . I was on a 10.03 by split time . I pulled bottled water tire pressure gauges , anything I could find to try and get there . Pay out was good .
