Also should mention here that white custom trim trucks only had white between the custom side door and bed trim , you see lots of black and red painted inserts on them but this is NOT factory. Two tone trucks got the main body color painted rims. While one color or solid color trucks received black rims on Chevys.

GMC was completely different. For 1960-1961 There were three colors for the rims ,Crystal Green, Strata Blue and Olympic white , this all had to do with the main body color as to which wheel color you got.For 1962-1966 Im 90% sure GMC rims were white but for some reason I have seen a couple with black rims that I cannot verify. Still need a 1962 and 1966 GMC Data book to confirm some of the GMC facts.

And wasn't the sheen for black wheels satin?

OEM UNUSED/UNMOUNTED tailgate for GMC. A friend send me these pictures of a NEVER used or Mounted tail gate. Note the GRAY chain covers, this is how the gate came from the factory. The owner removed the gate to mount a camper and put the gate on the wall of the garage.

I've seen clear chain covers and Black chain covers, but never saw grey, one more thing to put on the list, I wonder IF Chevy did the same?.

The gray ribbed covers is all they ever used from the factory on a 60-66 Chevy AND GMC Fleetside, Clear is aftermarket and black , if not ribbed, is also aftermarket. Black ribbed is for Stepside

Do the serial numbers for each year start with 100001 like the 55-57 Chevys? My '60 Apache is 100237 which would be pretty early then. I noticed the bellhousing had a F239 date code which I believe would be June of '59?

I'm going to pull the cab off my 60 C10 to have it dipped and stripped. Is the undercoating on the underside stock from the factory or was it added later? Thanks!

While restoring my 60 C10 as original as possible, I will paint it white because that is the paint code on the plate. It looks like somebody (dealership?) painted it Brigade Blue and did a thorough job.

My question is, on the white ones from the factory, was the Chevrolet lettering on the tailgate painted black or left white? Thanks!

This is why clean original trucks are so special, you can learn how the factory did it!

Engine Casting Number, Casting Date and Assembly Date Question. Has anyone done research on known original trucks to figure out relationship of engine block casting date, engine assembly date, and vehicle final assembly? I have a 1966 Custom Camper built in Fremont, mid-June 1966. Am building a new engine. 327, with 3858174 block, the casting date is L-3-5 which equals December 3, 1965. The Flint assembly date = 1209 YH = December 9, 1965.
Is this block to early for my June built truck?

Thanks, Frank

1-2 months is more typical, but that's not too early.

Thanks for the replies. Yelmer, your sequence is very helpful. Consistent with other vehicles I have researched. Shows how tight all of the assembly dates are.

I was sandblasting 2 OEM hood hinge assemblies and noticed a factory name stamp. "Hancock" embossed over a large 'H'. Are these factory OEM? If so we found another piece of the puzzle......

Need help with parts numbers and ID. Attached are pictures of my 1966 C20 Bendix power booster and master cylinder. My understanding is these trucks could come with either Bendix or Delco Moraine boosters and M/C.
Questions:
1. The M/C has part number 618082 cast in the bottom and has a screw on cap. Is this potentially an original or replacement original?
2. What are the Bendix part numbers for the Master cylinder, and part number for the booster?
3. What are the Delco Moraine part numbers for the Master cylinder, and part number for the booster?

Thanks for the help, Frank

Yes, there is a 66 cast in, and some faint”clocks” which probably indicate month/day. Need to find a source or someone who knows about the Bendix manufacturing process to confirm..

I have that exact same 618082 master cylinder on several low mile trucks. 8700 mile 65 K20 , 18,000 mile 66 GMC , my gold 66 K20 22,000 mile truck. Thats two Janesville and one Flint built trucks. I've found these same master cylinders NOS on 64-66 Bendix boosters. I believe that master of yours IS correct and original for your truck . Ive sent mine out to Lone Star Calipers to have stainless steal sleeves installed and restored.
