I stopped buy the machine shop after work today ! It was an early Christmas for me ! Can you tell ?:ennyd:

I was talked into the polished oil pan and glad for it.The intake sets things off well...just cant wait to get my rockers in so I can bolt on the valve covers and wire looms, serp system,distributer.........etc !

I decide to go with a rebuilt Eldelbrock 750cfm.Not sure what Im going with for an air cleaner yet,but Im gettin close.

I decided to go with a heavy tin timing cover because of its strength as it's built from a heavier gauge metal that does not leak. From past experience, the chrome and aluminum covers are not all that visable and are to tough to clean anyway.

So here is the engine sprayed in Endura primer and Endura black top coat.It looks better that I thought being that this finish is more for an industrial application.

Endura is a hard plastic thats bulletproof, has an extreme high gloss finish and a long life that will easily outlast me !:ito:

Man, you do top notch work!

I can always tell when a custom bike builder builds a 4 wheeled vehicle because the attention to detail and the fit and finish is impeccable. When you build a bike, you can't skimp on the details because everything is visible to the eye, and that's exactly the same mindset you have on your truck. I dig this kind of stuff!

Picked up my shift linkage kit today,I was itchen to post something tonight so I suppose this will be it !

This seems to be the kit of choice from what I've seen out there.Everything you would need to tie the column to the tansmission is all here.I could have made this from odds and ends ....,but still not for the price paid over the counter.:ito:

Hi....,I'm looking for exactly what's in the pic I posted, they are 1961-1963 sail panels.and not stepped(which would have been 1960) as I wont be running the paint division trim.

Let me know if you can get them,If so send me a pm with pics of.

Thank you.

Re: Project truck dream 65"

ok, i just last week gave the same ones 60-63 style to a guy in a trade for a oem fan shroud and radio knobs and odds and ends. i had them things for over 10yrs as my build is a 65 stepper and the dont fit. i can give you his number or i can call em for you, he's in michigan as am i. i met him on CL's and kinda bet em up on the the awesome pick, but i did give him the sail panels that were in great shape no dents just needed to be polished and a set of SS trim around the windshield so we both made out

Re: Project truck dream 65"

Last night I found a set of 61-63 sail panels....,reconditioned originals ! Paid dearly for them but worth it.Tough to find these in good shape, there getting rare.

To buff out the scratches, remove small dents and then polish these would take a fair bit of time not to mention the risk in damaging them in the process.Once again well worth the money paid.

I was up in the air with running period correct trim, but at this stage with my build.......period correct, don't think its a deal breaker ?

I will need the screws and mounting hardware. If anyone knows where to find them, please let me know.

LMC is showing 4 retainers and screws which is confusing because whenever I look at the other repo kits online,I see 2 bars (with a hole in each end) and screws.

I have never seen these up close and mounted,so Id appreciate the input here, and detailed pics of these panels/hardware on and off the truck would be appreciated:ito:

I have a pre 1980 steering box and want to find a pump thats compatable with it in the Type 11 style.

There are a number of these pumps that look exactly the same, but being that its for my 65 on a sb 400hp,Im confused with high flow, low flow and most of all,a part number!

I need to confirm fitting sizes at both ends so I dont order this twice...and any suggestions on a braided hose kit as well.

I'd appreciate some input from those who know for sure.

I posted a couple pic's here of the pump I want to use.........possibly running this type resevoir if I have the room under the alternator.

Re: Project truck dream 65"

The 2 bars you talked about are what you need. They are just a couple of flat pieces of metal, and the one side is curved up a little, so the lip of the sail panel tucks under it and holds it on. Then get some stainless sheet metal screws with a wafer head for the door opening holes. The screw on the rear of the cab needs a tapered seat. Keep building, I have been following your thread all along.

Thank you,it sounds easy enough....., although some underneath the trim pics would be great my friend. My truck never had them so I'm starting from scratch.:ito:

My apologies,I should have been more clear of what pictures I was asking for.By saying underneath the trim,I was referring to the actual cab and with the mounts in place, location of the fastener holes, etc.

Thank you.:ito:

My bud has a couple 63s,one is finished the other is the next project for him to pour all his money into.Just for the record,Im good with one !

Never even crossed my mind until a few days ago that its a custom with all the trim...

I would never have guessed the mounts sit where the do.I took measurements so this would be a one shot deal with no guess work.

1" down from the roof drip cap,on inner edge...,4 3/4" top of mount to door jam and 3 3/4" bottom of mount to door jam .Hope this is helpfull to those who are adding the trim like myself.:ito:

Just before I had my Captain Fab booster bracket painted,I had a nut welded either side so I could later cap it to smooth that area out a bit.

So today was a good day to spend some time in the shop.A salvaged piece of 6061 angle did the trick. A little elbow grease and some buffing ate up 3 hours.:ito:

Seems like Im all over the place with the build now that I had a little time off at work.

All of the 'do next things' that are in the back of my mind when I'm working seem easy enough.......,truth is I spend most of it trying to decide what to do next than moving ahead.......

Anyway,I saved this pic from some time ago and I'm wondering if this steering column cover was an option or if I have to build it.If anyone knows the answer, let me know.

I have seen this more than once and felt It was a nice way to clean up this area.I will have to slot it for my auto column linkage..,.no big deal.:ito:

Re: Project truck dream 65"

That steering column cover is the first I have seen like it.
Mine mounts the other way, to protect the shaft from road grime.
I wonder if they mounted it upside down on purpose?

Finally the carb and pushrods were ordered a few days ago and were are all I needed to finish my engine.

I went with an Eldelbrock 750. The 600 was recommended, but in my opinion would be under-fueled.Pushrods...,well Comp of course !

As you all know by following my build, I'm taking my time to get it right !

In the next few days I will be visiting the machine shop to see my 383 fired up on the dyno.We will be using the shop distributor, wires and headers when we do,all my own goodies will get bolted on later.

I will post a vid of it running with hopes to achive the expected hp and torque.

Stay tuned !:ito:

The motor mounts seem to be an issue with some makes of headers as they tend to hit on the upper hump of the perch.

I wanted to use the originals as the other option for me was to cut my frame to accept aftermarket perches.

My headers would have been a problem for sure and knew it when I got them.

I wanted the brand because they are one of the few still made in the USA and beyond that are a high clipster design, so any speed bumps...,wont be a problem.

So the top of the pech has now been modified so there is plenty of clearance, about an inch now.Typically the front header pipe is the culprit.

I will clean em up this weekend, off to the powder coaters next week.:ito:
