Well just wrapping up a few things before we blow this thing apart. Cut down oil pan and pickup tube to keep it above the frame rails. Finished the exhaust out the bed side. Lots of final welding once its of the frame. CHIZZLER

Very nice! I love the V bands too. I got a bunch off ebay for my 40. I hope they don't turn out to be garbage.

Yesterday was a fun day. We finally got the big girl outside to stretch out. The side view makes this think look really long. We couldn't even push it from the gravel back to the shop. Had to pull it back in with the tractor. Decided to do something different and welded the headlight trim rings to the grill and closed up the holes. I guess were getting to the next phase of a quick re- blast and epoxy the whole thing. I brought the motor/trans and bed home to do some cleaning and fit the bed wood. I really don't want to pull this motor apart but want to get it clean. I've read a lot of good results with simple green automotive so I'm going to try that first. Lots of welding to do on the frame still but that will be after body work is mostly done and before paint. Thanks everyone for checkin this WTF did I get myself into build. CHIZZLER

Re: 1961 Crew Max
If it makes you feel better I can't push mine either. Have you measured how long it is?

Little update. Got the motor torn down as far as I think it needs to go. With only 118k everything should be good. Did a major degreasing to start things off and followed two more times with some spot cleaning. Getting it ready for prime and paint. A friend of mine got this ultrasonic cleaner from his work that they were throwing away due to updated cleaners. Overall pretty good with almost no work. Thanks CHIZZLER

Re: 1961 Crew Max

Got A Bit more done the last couple weeks. Pulled more of the motor apart and put some primer and paint on it. Also blasted the almost all of the sheetmetal for reassembly. Boss put down a Thick coat of PPG CRE-921 Epoxy primer and this s*** is like powder coat. Going to start bodywork anytime. CHIZZLER

Been A bit guys. Still in body work right now. My parts shelf has grown a lot. Few more items then the motor will be wrapped up. One thing I'm trying to decide on is the turbo. Leaning towards the Danville 68mm charger. Very streetable up to about 600hp. Few more go fast parts coming soon. This motor only has 118k on it and was mainly a pavement princess with no power adders. Got my modified harness back from ken wolkens at stand alone harness and reprogramed ecm and tcm from Dmax swap and they both did a great job. Anyways Happy Holidays to all of you. CHIZZLER

Re: 1961 Crew Max
Nice parts list showing up for sure. That turbo should work pretty well. The body work is looking like it's going pretty nice too. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family!

Re: 1961 Crew Max
Shawing, that motor is sexy!

Re: 1961 Crew Max
Looked cool before body work started, now I'm on pins and needles.
Merry Christmas |
Re: 1961 Crew Max
Nice to see someone working on their project .... My 63 has sat in the driveway with a trans leak all summer , I sold my green one that I started to put floor boards in and my other project is still taking up space in the garage ...

Re: 1961 Crew Max
Looking very good!! Do you have a turbo now? I'm looking at getting the Wicked Wheel for mine?

Few updates. New Danville Turbo made it. Body work is getting closer to actually trying to finalize color. We have done 5 spray outs so far and it's just not right yet. For the inside cab color Im interested on what any of you have used. I've read a lot of different opinions on the two tone dark grey light grey but no shared paint codes. Here is the dash as I got it and you can see the color combo. Thanks for checkin in. Chizzler

Re: 1961 Crew Max
Very cool. Coming down to some of details are the most nerve racking at times. In the past on painted vehicles I did and still a lot of people today look at VW color codes and Toyota color codes for ideas. Ya just never know?

Quick update. One more block then sealer. After about 10 spray outs we finally have the color nailed. I had some original interior color mixed and it came out really pinkish. Trying to keep the dash and all other interior panels close to factory. If any of you have and specifics on what you used for 60-61 please share. Thanks all for hanging in on this colossal over the top what did I get myself into build. I know most of you have felt the same way. CHIZZLER

Little Update. Cab is just about ready for paint. Did A lot of back and fourth with the colors. Came up with a pretty good combo. Interior is a very unique fawn that we blended. We tried the original silver/charcoal but wasn't working well with the exterior color. Final fit on the Mob steel wheels. Thanks for checkin in. CHIZZLER
