have you ever accused a good friend of stealing?

yeah, me neither, but if I did it would go something like this:

about 2 years or so ago a really good friend of mine asked if I would help him take the engine out of his SUV, so I said sure of course

I usually carry some tools in my truck, so I bronged some of my tools, my favorite 30 year old Craftsman ratched, and lets just pick a random socket say a 9/16ths (you know the one you hardly ever use on your truck) and to speed up the process I used it that day at his place, he worked on one side of the engine bay I worked on the other

after we were done, right around the same time I drove this truck aka Dusty to my mamas house and asked her if I could park it there for a couple of days [pronounced: TWO YEARS circa 2019 B.C. ahem Before Covid]

well I haven't seen my ratchet and that 9/16ths socket since I HELPED HIM !!!

which brings us to YESTERDAY:

These 450h trans are much more powerful than the bolt ev transaxle gm used in their conversions right?

You'll need a trans cooler for this?

I look forward to seeing how well it holds up with no ICE in a pickup

and here is what the Inverter weighs (the inverter translated Direct Current from the battery pack to Alternating Current for the motors, these are AC motors inside that transmission)

think of the Inverter as a Carburetor / Distributor combo

first 5 of which were spent figuring out why there was nothing coming out of her at all, and then fixing her [I'm looking at you "unloader valve"]

this is after the first pass just with plain water (no soap... yet)

I'm a little surprised you're going to have more weight than that 350 boat anchor if you try to add enough range to get out of town and back.

I'm waiting on permitting and some other buildng projects before i build a nice solar array to fuel an electric vehicle of some sort.something along the lines of the white zombie electric car would be cool

so I finally decided to put my big boy pants on and hang the driver side door on properly, so I removed the front fender and noticed this bracket had a funky bend to it, I wonder if that had something to do with me not being able to align that door properly, I don't know, we shall see

the top pic is the bad diver side, the bottom is the good passenger side

so what I do first is remove as much crud as I can while it is still dry, I use a 2" putty knife, flat screw drivers of different sizes to scrape, and then wipe off with paper towels, I love using quality paper towels cause they really lift the dirt and grime off, and once a towel is dirty I just toss it, you can also waddle them up into a ball and force hem into crevices with a flat screw driver

then I pressure wash just with cold water from a garden hose, no soap at this time, this blows off what it can and reduces the amount of crud the soap will have to eat and fight later

not all dish soap is created equal (I am looking at you .99 Cent Store, lol) Dawny is the shizzle it works, so I use it, what color of Dawny don't matter I prefer the green though, but last time I used the blue just as well, I don't delute it in a bucket or anything like that but by now the engine is wet and their are tiny puddles of water in some cavities to mix with the soap, plus I am in California so our soap formula is most likely way weaker than yours as it may cause cancer in this state like everything else

once the engine is wett I go crazy with the dish soap and brushes just get it on everywhere

then I pressure wash it off and some stubborn grime stays on, so that's where and when you hit it with 0000 steel wool and more dish soap and then repeat with the pressure washer

pressure washers also are not all created equal (electric pressure washers could not remove a bugger off my finger) so use a gasoline powered one please

time of year matters, do this job outside when it is HOT, not in the Winter if you can

pics of another engine that I did on my '74, hope this helps

ha ha, and thanks, it really comes down to a proper ratio of dish soap to elbow grease you want at least 50/50 and everyone skimps out on the elbow grease, ha ha

here's what that little mouse looked like when I was done with her, now that took more than just dish soap and a pressure washer, but it was all done under a shade tree by yours truly no hot tank or machine shop involved

Awesome I’ll take some pics and put them in my build thread of the clean up I don’t mind the elbow grease it takes to get it done it’s the outcome like that clean machine on the stand it’s supposed to be nice here climbing to 70 this week I’ll start the process
