Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Pulled starter off, called autozone gave them the number and they said it had lifetime warranty. They said bring it over and they would swap it out. Well when I got there they changed up on me and said manager would have to ok it. He wasn't there, be there tomorrow(trip for nothing) Oh well I guess I'll drive back tomorrow. (no problem, gas is cheap you know)

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Started out to change the head gasket on the red 66 and then found the block was cracked. OK, so I have a spare I6 250 CID in the storage unit. As I was calling my buddy to ask to borrow his cherry picker, my neighbor who was hanging out with me called his buddy. We were just talking about the other 66 (white) and my plans for it. Turns out that I will be picking up a 283 CID V8 from a 66 Impala tomorrow for next to nothing.
We pulled the broken 250 tonight on the red 66. I will go tomorrow to pickup the I6 from storage and the 283. Did I mention the 283 comes with 194 heads and 202 heads. Which should I use? This is suppose to be a rare engine with a double roller cam or something. I don't know much about that, but I am stoked to finally find a 283 in my price range and when I had the extra cash. SWEET!!! |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I gutted and hid my air bag switchs and after market gauges in the under dash A/C unit my buddy gave me!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Well here it goes. I made and welded in patches on the back of my cab. I only took a few crappy pictures but you get the idea. I made both sides but I only got one side finished. I'm also replacing the floor pans, I've finished the passenger side already and now I'm working on the drivers side. I had to remake half of the front floor brace, I finished most of it last night but it got late and 4am comes too early... Hopefully I can get some more done today.
Here is the patch http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...y/77f66e89.jpg Here it is welded up, still need to grind the welds http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...y/d9e824c7.jpg |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Found my new/old air cleaner. I'm a junk guy so I always look for things while I'm out shopping, that I can use on my truck. My air cleaner was missing and I found this vintage silent butler at the thrift. Picked it up for a few bux and I'm going to use modify it and run it. Should be cool when I'm done. It's aluminum and dates from the 1930s. Has a great saturn/stars design on the lid.

I think I will actually incorporate it into my build since the shifter knob I made is wooden, and I am building a flat bed. Should tie it all in. Steven |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
They finally found where I bought starter at Autozone and replaced it. Put the new starter on and noticed turned over kinda slow, charged battery and started her up. I pulled the positive battery cable off and truck died. I took alternator to Autozone to have it tested, it was bad so I bought a new one. I think I've replaced everything but belts and water pump.

I got the fan shroud mounted and the fuel filter changed. In preparation for the drive to the CPP gathering, I got the temporary seat belts installed. I received the fabric today for the new seat upholstery. Obviously it didn't come in time to have the seat done by this weekend's trip. :(

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I just moved engines around. Loaded up the cracked 250. went to pick up the 283. took both to the storage shed. picked up the spare 250 from the storage shed and brought it home. Hope to start installing it on Thursday evening. Hope it runs. I have never had it in anything since I bought it last year or was it the year before?

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
continued painting..
http://i44.tinypic.com/28chw79.jpg SOO much better than can-o-flage.. We're going to do the roof black & the stripe white. It's temporary so the neighbors don't continue to [bleep] about it. So, it's obviously not a quality job, but it's better than what it was. lol - the white is brighter in person.. phone doesn't like it. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I haven't even touch the "burb project in about 3 weeks. Been concentrating on the Blue Oval build(it's closer to completion) Also since I sold my '70 C-30 I needed to get another truck on the road soon! LOL!
Great work by all you other guys-lots of cool projects going!! |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I can get rocker panels and floor board repair panels and fender repair panels (which I need) if anyone wants the rockers and floor panels I'm probably gonna get them.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Put a heater blower motor in. The third trip to the parts store, I finally got a good motor. The first one I brought home squealed worse than the old one. Took it back they didn't have one, had to drive to another town to get one.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Ah the weekend is here and I hope to have brakes by the end of it. I got my new master cylinder and booster yesterday and will be at my father in law's to day to fab a bracket. He is a retired machinist and has a full shop! I dont have a garage and I am dependant on decent weather for the time being. Can't wait until summer so I can really tear into this. Nothing beats a sunny day, the radio, and a couple of cold beers while working on a project with my kids.

Well, not today - yesterday when I got home form work. I installed the stainless bracket I made complete with stainless studs, washers & nuts for my radiator recovery system & washer jar & pump combo. I flipped the voltage regulator & horn relay to the other side of the radiator support and ran the wiring through the hole for the headlight plug. I ran the overflow hose through the opening receiver-drier sight glass. I tested the washer pump and it works. All in all I'm happy. I mounted horns from a 75? Chevy truck to each side of the radiator between the grille and the radiator support & used existing mount bolts to attach them. I only had to drill two 1/4 holes for all of this. I hate drilling new holes. There's always that chance I might be welding them back up in a few years from now.

Didn't do any work on projects, but we did chase down a lead on some 1940's CEO trucks. Found them and got a contact number/name. There were 4 of them and all pretty decent BUT the sad news-- they turned out to all be F**d's Sorry guys, thought it was a good lead....
