Change of direction, sort of.
The cardboard box worked so well, and then Morrison’s still had the offer at £5.00/kg and... they had some pieces of beef with a lot of fat on, that I decided to have another go. This time heavy on the chilli to create chilli bits/snap stir and initially plans were for bat wings, which are thin pieces dried over a mesh. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(141).HEIC Beautiful and the fat lays just right. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(139).HEIC In the end I decided to pass on the bat wings as I do not have a spare oven grill or fridge shelving to drape the meat over, so snail stir it has to be. Also just used a sharp knife to cut, rather than dirty my electric slicer, which I had decided to give away to friends who make biltong commercially from home. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(145).HEIC https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(140).HEIC 45-60 minutes laying covered in salt, draws off all the residual liquid through osmosis. I use my kitchen sink, suitably sterilised as it allows me to lay it all out, maximising the surface area for the salt and then following that, the spices. I let Sam and Dee at Biltong Cottage try my Chilli Garlic biltong, and the were so taken with it, that I had to share my recipe with them. Happily done. Not much done with the Rezin Rockit recent;y, day job, weather and other jobs getting in the way.
In fact hit a bit of angle iron which slowed me down for the time being till I figure out or get advised on how to deal with it. Slithered in there, upside down https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(149).HEIC Looking up the A-pillar and toward the window frame, you can see there is a length of angle iron incorporated in the frame. This needs to be dealt with, in order to figure out how to remove the frame. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...ix/001(34).jpg Managed to get out of that upside down position, had gotten the one rear view mirror bolt unscrewed, then used a long screwdriver to lock the 10mm bolt in place and rotated the mirror around it, as there was no way to get spanner’s in there. Done If you look carefully at the bonnet of the car you will see that it had started to rain, made me chuckle as the carport roof was always planned this way. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(147).HEIC Finally, managed to get one of the gutter bolts unscrewed from the frame. However, there will be more challenges, as I see as you can, there is angle iron running down from inside the A Pillar. No going back now. Went and got the 14tpi blades and then got caught short by sunset yesterday So today I stole a bit of time from work to get out in the daylight, having started my day early. So I used a knife to cut some of the silicone out between the screen frame and body. I knew exactly where it would go, depending on its size when offered up to the front bumper on the Rezin Rockit. I have had an idea to build a tallish fake Visible gas pump for years, using an obsolete 47kg gas bottle, a compressor tank and a fire extinguisher to create a tower. Finding a decent, large diameter clear plastic tube, pipe, call it what you like, has been a bit more problematic as I have never seen anything like that in my travels. However - nothing stops me from creating a clear tube, using 2mm to 3mm thick Perspex or similar, turned into a tube, bolted together and mounted. So the second item on offer was of much more interest, as it can be incorporated as a lamp, like the one I made for the carport. The windshield slant is just right.
This is off the wall but back in the 80's I worked at a restoration shop and we painted a 51 Chevy conv. After it was all painted and put back together the owner decided to add all the options for a 51 Chevy one was back up lights. Mounting them on a fresh paint job was not the ideal thing but I was able to get it done without any problems. In your video of the 51 Chevy drift car I notice it had the optional back up lights missing the lens. It brought back a lot of memories working on that car. |

Last day of work for the year.
Sucked a bit as customers were tired too. Anyway, got an hour in during daylight, and before the chill and sideways rain told me to get indoors. Still, happy with the little jobs done. Started off by finding some potential steel for the windscreen supports. Cut in half it should do the job. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(163).HEIC Then the next job was to pry off the wiper arms. Two screwdrivers do the job easy. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(161).HEIC All off. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(166).HEIC Next job was to get the motor and three actuators out. First and second one was fine, thinking no 3 would be a doddle..... it was not. Had to dismantle the glovebox/cubbyhole and part of the blower system. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(168).HEIC So, dismantling, why do you have brass screws, mixed with dome headed gutter bolts, randomly. Mr Angle Grinder and 1mm blade came out to sort two of them in the end. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(167).HEIC And then needing to pull away the rotten dash panel to get to more of these. Why would you use 6 screws to attach a simple plastic tub? https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(169).HEIC There will be more tearing apart and removal of rotten wood. Getting the blower out the way in order to be able to unthread the wiper modulator was another pita as it was screwed in with a set of long 3mm bolts with double nuts holding it. But I got it out, and then the modulator way. Lockdown Tier 4. Thankfully I got to fetch and load the steel cabinets I had agreed to collect from the @craigrk offices on the 19th, weeks ago. We agreed to get there early in the morning, get them loaded in the Galaxy and trailer, plus a load in Craig’s ML55 AMG and on his bike trailer. So I stopped for a coffee as I had got there quicker than anticipated. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...ix/001(40).jpg Galaxy swallowed two of the 6’2” cabinets, they are a meter wide and 480mm deep, so two fitted with ease. On the trailer another two 6 footers upright, and a 4 footer. This plan failed as it was 3.30-m when I got home. So we decided to finish the job in the morning. Best part of this trip? Saw this on FB Marketplace this morning, for sale. A 1969 Jeepster. Front screen looks curved for a moment, but look at the slope rear wards compared to original Jeeps. Not a lot done today.
Relaxed a bit and spent time chatting to various people around the world/ Then went down to the garage. When I fought the roofing, there were two 3.2 meter lengths of “free” roofing sheets that get used to protect the order. So I stashed them against the hedge for future use. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(178).HEIC Failing to source some truck body sides left me little option but to use these as a temporary solution. So I cut one in half, then the other in three and screwed them up on the outside, under the gutters I fitted yesterday. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(176).HEIC Tight fit. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...ix/001(48).JPG Looking from the inside, plan is to add a a strip of decking to the bottom to hold it all together and make the edges safe. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...ix/001(46).JPG On the left side, the plan is to cut out some doorway, and to add a door post, again to,make the edge safe so idiots like me don’t cut ourself by accident when coming through. Also a frame over the top that will allow for some kind of door or draped weather proof curtain. Today was phone call upon phone call.
Messenger message after Messenger message. Insurance quotes, logistics, research. Then put to the carport. Into Mickey’s and my woodpile, digging, measuring and sorting. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...ix/001(49).JPG Then made up from 100mm, 50mm and a 45mm decking board, left over from last year when we rebuilt the deck, a 4.2 meter long plinth, painted it grey and left it out 5o dry, though the weather is not ideal for drying. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(181).HEIC Levelled out, and added some sharp sand, the strip behind the single brick wall. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(179).HEIC And finally, added and compacted the blocks, left over from the summertime build. Yes, the rag to blunt the edge is a rag, long since decommissioned. https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(180).HEIC So next job is to secure the sheets of roofing with another length of decking board, a door post for it to screw into, and then moving the grey plinth into position, so that the cabinets can be fitted onto the raised section, with the roof sheets tightly against the rear of them. Op at 06.00 in the morning, then off by 07.00 to collect @pauly for a recce and mini road trip. Maybe it will be interesting. |

Contacted the advertiser who was selling for a friend....... usually these peee me off before I even contact them as they are often just infuriating deals to see through. Andy took his time getting back to me, but of course he has a day job. Then a garbled text message, typed with a pair of safety gloves. At this point I was ready to walk away, but I persevered as the truck specs and what was described, suited me and ticked the list. Eventually managed to get an appointment set up for 11.00 and contacted @pauly to see if he would come do the fine tooth comb checks for me. He knows stuff. But he could not do 11.00, so I contacted the advertiser to see if we could view at 09.00 , within minutes he got back to me and agreed to 09.00 Got an address and description of how to get on the turkey farm, sudden, hidden turning off the motorway. So Thursday morning 06.00 I was up, left home by 07.00 all excited, and drove over to our meeting point in 4’C weather. In the mean time I went into the history online. I kinda like the Cragars, but then again those and Keystone classics were the wheels of my youth. |

So today I spent some time outside, it was 3.5’C Yes, I know there are colder places in the world, but there are also warmer places. First I removed everything that did not belong to the Galaxy, from it. Rolled up the bloody heavy rubber mat that was on the floor.it will go into the S10 truck Ed. The I vacuum cleaned it, wiped every surface and cleaned it all with various products. Then unpacked the rear seats from storage, removing their wrappings and refitted them all. You should be able to transfer the plate at the same time as registering the S10 in your name online . But only if you have insurance and tax and MOT on both vehicles. If one has been off the road but not declared SORN in the last 5 years , that’s when it get to be a pain and they want all documentation sent to DVLA. I know this because when I purchased the Porsche it had been in jersey for a year in the last 5 years so it was a pain in the ass .

A very personal choice. I am still in two minds, both are my minds and opinions about the Cragar wheels currently fitted to the truck. They are 17’s and need to be cleaned for me to really form an opinion, the whole truck needs a decent valet to get it up to scratch. It comes with a full lowering setup, so the wheel arch gaps on the 17’s can be closed in, tyre sidewalls are 45 profile, and possibly could be increased a bit to change the illusion. The ride on the 17’s as they are is actually really comfortable, unlike some low profile setups.
