I got the truck safely hauled down to the fairgrounds coliseum and set up for the GSTA show which starts tomorrow. Much to my surprise they gave me a prime spot on the main show floor. It's the first ever indoor show for me, and the first public showing for the truck after finishing the build. I'm pretty stoked...

Man am I behind the posts here.LOL Yesterday I primed those parts before work, then last night I went to a play at the High school, then came home and got some U bolts ready for primer. I primed them this morning then got a little time cleaning up the leaf springs.
I then went on a historical walk with people in the community in a historic little "district" that use to be a town called "Niles" where Charlie Chaplin filmed a number of movies. I then came home and I am priming the springs right now, in between coats resting watching the Warriors game. Brian |

Quickie task installing my hood-to-cowl seal today. It supports the hood even with the cowl and stops the back edge from fluttering.
Words of belated wisdom: always install this seal BEFORE mounting your hood. With my hood on, I found the screws nearly impossible to reach. |

I don't know if it will be cool to you or creep you out but today I went on this walking tour and saw this truck. You see this truck was owned by the guy you see me on the bike with, Don Knopps of "Don's Antique auto parts." He is a legend, a friggin legend in the "town" of Niles (now a district in Fremont.) He was a character, he was like a character in a movie or sitcom, like Kramer on Sienfeld.
I bought parts for my truck from him back in the seventies! The photo with him and I was taken while on an interesting little outing through Niles Canyon which they have closed for a day every once in a while for maintenance and then left open after they are done for bicycles and pedestrians for the day. Don was about 85 in this photo and he was power walking in the canyon about three miles from his store! He was something else, the town is full of antique stores and about every one of them has a painting or something of Don in it. He passed away last year and the place just isn't the same. Well, it looks like his family put his truck out on the street with a skeleton in it wearing one of his top hats! I remember once driving through the canyon going to a swap meet. We came upon Don in this truck on the side of the road. My brother and I pulled over and asked him if he needed any help. Don said that it over heated and he was just waiting for it to cool, no big deal. LOL He just sat there until it was cool enough to drive again and we later saw him at the swap meet. That photo of us was taken by a woman I didn't know with her phone and she sent it to me, it is a treasure of mine for sure. Brian |

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
I just went out to clear out the garage and move my Gran Sport back in there for the night. I was going to move my "rack" over leaving it in there with the springs hanging on it. I moved it a bit and the tubing I used to hang the springs on bent in half with the springs falling down on the floor and me! I was VERY lucking in that I was not hurt and the springs weren't hurt much, few spots of primer scratched, not a big deal, got to keep telling myself they are just undercarriage parts on what will be a daily driver.
I am just so thankful I didn't put them in there with the Gran Sport next to it and had those springs fall on it! I don't know if I mentioned it but when installing the studs in the hubs I was hitting a half inch impact socket with a sledge hammer. I was holding the socket with vice grips, on one of the studs the sucker flew off the vice grip and hit my Gran Sports door! It put a little ding and what I thought was a chip. This door has three flaws that have happened in the driveway and garage! CRAP. Well the good news is I pulled the car out today and just took it for a little drive and I couldn't find the ding, I searched and searched with the car outside in the sun and couldn't find it. I know it's there but at least it's so small I couldn't even find it. That makes me feel much better and I won't be waking up tonight thinking about it. Brian |

Ok, got the front axle and spindles painted. We are talking rattle can paint. SIDS had already painted it, with 1k, be it a rattle can or what ever. I was planning on stripping it off and epoxy priming it and then I came to my senses, who gives a crap, it will be a driver and I need to cut my work so I had a few rattle cans of black and wham, it's done. That and along with some lawns to mow and a quick little cruise in my convertible with the top down, enjoying life, now sit down for a ball game and later my son's birthday party. :D Life is good.

To recap this weekends events, I met a lot of cool people, had fun showing off my truck and got to cruise home on a beautiful spring evening.
The ‘58 took first in the Late Truck class and later won the John & Marge Foster Award, an honor bestowed by the show organizers. The GSTA members picked the '58 as the vehicle they most wanted to take home. I am very honored and humbled to be recognized by my peers. Thanks to my friends for helping to make this all possible... |
