Got the new calipers and stainless brake lines installed after the false start last weekend. I also cleaned inside the front wheel wells and the front half of the undercarriage, including the chrome oil pan, pulleys, etc...
Tired and sore from rolling around on the floor for 2 days. |

I took the panel truck out for the monthly gathering at the local country store. Fun little show with a couple dozen cars, live music, and food vendors.
BTW: I got my new gauges installed. Dolphin sent me a free replacement set, and they work perfectly. Kudos to Dolphin for great customer service! |
Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Removed and replaced spark plugs. Holy crap were they covered in thick black carbon. Its amazing the truck started. Seems I've been warming her up with the choke too much. Starts so much easier with the fresh plugs. Had black coming out the tail pipe as well. To much choke.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Dunno if you are familiar with the old stuff, manual chokes etc, but in general if it is running like it has a big cam in it, "loping", then too much choke. You gotta babysit the old girl, release the choke a little at a time and enough so it still runs but just on the edge.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
Broke the dang master cylinder cover. I actually remembered to keep the battery charged this year so I could get it fired up quickly when I found the right day for first drive. Yesterday was the day. Brake pedal was low so I attempted to open the stock master to check fluid level and it broke in half. Grumbledy grumble. The cylinder date codes to the truck correctly and I'd like to keep it so I guess it's off to Ebay to try and find a replacement cover for cheap.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
I went to Wisconsin and picked up another chassis for the 53 3100. It's in nice shape and was only $150 from a guy on Stovebolt. It should have taken 8 hours but someone put Chicago in the way so it took 11.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3
I FINALLY finished my dad's old masonry box for use in the '55 bed. Considering what I started with I think it finished out nicely. The Chevrolet script is from a 1954 car sourced from eBay.

That's a sharp looking truck. I like the Olds trim on it, and those Olds engines just look right in a hotrod. Back "in the day" if your car had an Oldsmobile engine you were the top dog.

Saturday was the Cherry Blossom poker run. It’s the first time I have went and we really enjoyed it. It was also 80 degrees which is rare this time of year for Oregon, so there were a lot of cars & trucks.
Unfortunately we didn’t take many photos. |

Hey Bam, your truck looks awesome. Great job and incentive for those of us who have stalled out. It looks great with the glass in and no chrome in the rubber. All your personal touches make it a subtle one off. It looks like it was supposed to be that way from factory. I hope you drive it with great pride, you deserve all the head turning and thumbs up.

I finished the outriggers on the engine stand. I feel a lot better about it especially when the 6-71 is hanging off the side.

The monthly Cars and Coffee gathering at the country store had both sides of the road filled with classic vehicles. Oddly enough, I was the lone AD representative. This edition's theme was Cinco De Mayo, complete with hot chili. It's a nice little drive on rural backroads that keeps my truck limber and the battery charged.

The weather here has been terrible so I decided to work on the blower. I need to take the front cover and snout off the 4-71 and put it on the 6-71. I also need to polish the back cover on the 6-71. This will be sticking out of the hood on the hot chick side of the truck. I'm also replacing the bolts with ARP 12 point bolts. I took out one of the bolts for sizing. I like the protective film for keeping grindings out of everything. Why aren't more people posting on this thread? This is one of the easiest sites to post pictures on. There has to be more people working on their trucks. Thank you for your time.

Idbeast I’m interested in the tailgate latch you show in the picture. Is that something you came up with or a kit?

I'm watching as are a lot of others. My progress is very slow and it's going to be a nice driver quality, not high end show, so not as impressive as others here.

I don't always get a reply when I update my builds, but that's okay, its a journal for me, and entertainment for others. I'm not doing anything unique at all to my trucks so its probably not very entertaining, but I love being able to look back on the progress I made that was all new to ME. |
