I don't always get a reply when I update my builds, but that's okay, its a journal for me, and entertainment for others. I'm not doing anything unique at all to my trucks so its probably not very entertaining, but I love being able to look back on the progress I made that was all new to ME.

Well I find your build interesting. I find all builds interesting especially when person is doing the vast majority of the work in their home shop or garage. Its hard work and take you being a jack or all trades. Good job to all my fellow home builders. So it does not matter if people comment because believe me they are looking and in many cases learning.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

I spent time earlier this week working on the tune for the crossfire manifold. I'm currently running a 16197427 from a 94-95 truck and I haven't had much time during the last couple of years to make changes to the calibration.

Last night I dragged out the old Hydrovac I've had in storage for a few years. I hope to begin rebuilding that soon. I've got several pictures from the assembly manual to help fabricate brackets and plan the install.

And I've started collecting bits to install 3/4 ton steering arms. Made a quick measurement of the mounting holes and it appears the 3/4 ton arms will bolt right up. Last night I ordered the ball studs for the factory tie rod ends. This should be fun.

Threw on my hood and finished installing my LS Fab hood strut kit. This is such a nice kit. Supplied mounts and hardware is all SS. I painted mine to blend in more.

Thank you

I did with my truck yesterday, been editing and posting since I returned. Explored some abandoned stretches of Route 66, this is Two Guns Shell service station. The wind was 50 MPH gusts.

Really cool, I didn't know such a thing was available. But aren't you going to miss the euphonious cacophony of the original springs every time you open the hood?

As a bubble gum welder here all i can say is wow!! Only comparable welding i have seen was done by a robotic welding machine. Whatever they pay you at work it isn't enough -- you can tell them a professional engineer said so.

Thank you sir! We get paid pretty well, the hard part is working 7 days a weeks 13 hour shift for weeks and weeks straight. I weld in refineries, power plants, chemical plants and work with alot of engineers and they like us alot. The crazy part is I work with guys who are better than me.

I went to a car show today and it fired me up to come home and do something on the truck. I didn't work "on" the truck but I made saw horses to get the hood done. This hood has kicked my ever loving butt! I have said it before, I have chopped many tops, sectioned bodies, made suicide doors (before they had hinges you could buy) and just about every other custom thing you can think of, fender flares, shave door handles, what ever. This hood makes chopping a top look like making a PB&J sandwich! It's been swirling through my head for the past year how in the hell am I going to weld this hood together? Then it hit me recently saw horses! Seems simple and a lot of you will go "duh" but it just hit me, funny how the brain works. So I made them yesterday and will be getting at this baby! DAMN I want to drive this truck again! It's been 25+ years!

Ok, so I got my five minutes in today! I aligned the front end over at the rad support/frame to then align the hood back a hair on the right side to near perfection. I using a piece of tape marked off the rear and trimmed off the spot that was too long and so I will know how much to lengthen it in the center. I am going to use the strips of metal I cut off the sides to widen the middle.
As as I am posting this I realized that I will likely be moving those pieces a hair before welding them on permanently and that will likely change how much I should have trimmed off them, CRAP! Ok, at least I got something done. LOL

I attended the monthly car show at the country store and was shocked when they called my name for the People's Choice Award! I had parked down the block away from the main show to avoid the crowds. My truck wasn't built for trophies; it is purposely plain and unadorned - utilitarian, like an old panel truck should look. But apparently some people appreciate subtlety.

Also pictured is my neighbor's beautiful newly-acquired classic T-Bird.

I won't let this award go to my head, but the rest of you mortals may henceforth address me as Your Exalted Highness  Or Unmitigated Trophy Whore  Whichever :mm:

Went to the Function 4 Junction show on Saturday. There were 700 cars in the show and about 1000 for the cruise. As usual my phone had a low battery so no photos but here's a video I found of the cruise.

Dove in deep waters tonight and split the hood up. Yep my wife has lost her parking space in the garage. Having the top off is making way more sense with working with the hinges and creating clearance for them. I was climbing up under the body into the eng compartment to do this. Now I can do it way easier.

And yes I put my five minutes in yesterday too! :metal:

Spent my five minutes (two hours) welding up the recessed area for the hood hinge on the right side and figuring out the spring location again (did this a year ago). Will finish up the right side today and move over to the left. It's not pretty, don't judge me, I have magic bondo that will turn that lumpy mess into smooth painted metal! You need to get some if you don't have it, it's awesome!

Back from winter in Az and finally getting caught up with neglected yard work and some progress on my project. Got the inner fenders cut around the Camaro suspension, fenders mounted, battery box made and installed, fuel pressure regulator and gauge installed and just about ready for the core support and radiator. So many rusted and broken off bolts! I'm getting better at removing them but so much delay. I'm skipping the "easy-out" method and just MIG welding a nut to the broken bolt and using a wrench. Some times it'll take three attempts but all have eventually given up and left good undamaged threads. Bob
