yes sir.i haven't had a good enough day weather wise to spend another day up there in the woods but worked on covering up the attachments for my tractor that have to sleep outside, and more cleaning up inside the shop and then get back to finishing my metal brake/work table, then back to the floor in the 39.always something to do,like eating an elephant, one bite at a time.Happy Thanksgiving to all my U.S friends.take care.

X2!, I've been spending a lot of my time at my cabin repairing from last winter. I'm also getting ready for this winter! A never ending process.

What would we do if we didn't keep busy?

We'd get older faster. I have certainly slowed down since retiring and I believe that's a lot of why my back, hips, knees, hands are feeling the effects of arthritis more and more all the time, well that and age. ;)

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Hope all y'all had a good Thanksgiving.
We moved 4 years ago after spending the previous 19 years upgrading that house, cutting down/tearing out dozens of box elder, cottonwood and hundreds of buckthorn trees. Planting Maples, flowering crab trees and other desirable foliage/perennial flowers, etc. Damn place looked like a park and then we move... I told my wife I don't have another 19 years for that, so we are trying to cram all our large, wanted/needed, changes and additions into a 5 year program. I'm closer to 72 than 71 now and it does keep me busy and tired, but we've made all the large scale goals and are down to small landscape and house changes. Well, except for the Cedar siding that will need to be re-stained soon and I won't be doing that. I've been slowly working at restoring a '67 Camaro thru all this and only work on it in the winter. My bodyman/painter friend has been a huge help in getting that moving and we hope to have it ready for paint by spring. Then the next several winters I can work on a rotisserie restoration of my '70 Chevelle...

I had planned to do my Christmas lights but ended up doing fall clean-up. I cleaned gutters, raked up some leaves, set up the bird feeders, put away hanging baskets and carpenter bee traps, moved things around, stored some things, and organized

I'm still working and I'm sure that's not helping my arthritis. I feel good working but sure get stiff and sore from sitting. The biggest change with age I'm feeling is what I consider heavy has gotten a lot lighter. And I feel it more after.

 I'm freaking out about the aluminum ladder and that electric.
Ok, I'll be careful. I am fairly adapted to ladders these days. I stopped walking my roof. The shakes are getting shabby. Don't want to hurt them or have them hurt me! The pitch is marginal for walking as it is. Next comes metal. Won't be walking that.

Hopefully the tradition continues. I made sure my son brought my grand daughter each year to go cut a tree. She graduated HS this year

Here's some dumb "neighbor" I know taking down his lights. He used the extension ladder on the tail gate of his pickup to put them up, but it was still a bit too short. This is far better...

As long as the Tow motor stays in gear/parking brake holds and the hydraulics hold.

I'm not a plumber, therefore I have no pipe threading tools. Needed to clean up some buggered threads on two nipples on the boiler. Went to our local ReStore and bought this Armstrong for $3.00! Wire brush and some WD and it was back in service. Did the threads perfect. I love old tools! ;) That faucet is there only to check the threads. Finished the welding on the smokestack also.

Wow, a Bridgeport thread cutter. That's high quality stuff right there. The best of the best

Started the live edge counter top for the kitchen . I must have mislabeled these I thought I pulled hickory but it’s curvy maple . Didn’t notice the waves till I planed down the one board . Oh well it’ll be real nice I was going to use this wood for a table but I have plenty more

It’s pretty rewarding knowing I felled the tree and milled the wood . Took three years for it to dry enough to use . I now have at least twice the amount of wood stickered up

It was . I realized that I had 4 hardwood trees on the truck after I got home . I took the trunks over in the trailer . Some of the boards are 12 ft and 8/4 thick . Pretty much all sanded today . Just wiped with a damp cloth to show the figure in the wood I’m going to hat cutting the hole for the rangetop but I’ll make the cutout into a cutting board so it will match the countertop.

Hope to make it close to this with water soluble dye . First is a dark walnut application then sanded with 220 paper then a cherry red is applied and sanded again then a yellow with no sanding then top coated .

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

All kinds of ways to make curly maple pop. Quarter-sawn white oak, the same. I have pieces of both that I've bought over the years just for the figure. I need to start using that stuff up before I die and my family uses it for firewood. I bought some 8/4 walnut to make a cover for our doorbell chime, and ended up buying the entire plank because there was some really wild grain at one end. I plan to make a stock for my Ruger K10/22T carbine, as soon as I figure out the comb height. I bought a thumbhole stock because my arthritic hands fit that better, so I have that part of the design figured out. Too many other projects in front of that one. Retired and bored? Don't make me laugh, I put off enough projects when I was working to last me another 20 years.

Back on topic, I went to a coffee and cars meet this morning, with a basketball for the xmas toy drive. Some crazy nice vehicles there, for sure. Met a guy with a '68 El Camino SS396 that he bought new. If we only knew then, when we bought these treasures...

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

If I had only bought a warehouse coming out of high school I'd still have every vehicle I ever bought. They were special when I bought them and special when I sold them.

Back 30+ years ago I did the kitchen in this house. I had maple and oak to make the countertop and I ended up going with oak

Test board came out pretty much exactly what I was going for. It’s only got one coat of Waterlox on it so it’s still a little flat .

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

That's going to be a beautiful countertop. A funny thing is I made a top from recycled old growth white oak for a customer. It came out beautiful. But I can never get a good picture of it because it's always cluttered with kitchen stuff being a kitchen countertop

Mom called said she broke her shower door . Seems she has been using a bench in the shower . No big deal but she was using the door rail on the glass door to get up . Well the door was only off the track .I installed a proper grab rail this way she can use it standing or getting up from the bench

I put a couple of bars in the shower for my Mom. She so appreciated them. Living by herself, it was important for me to do and felt bad I hadn't thought of it before.
