Morning Ray,

Thank you, this truck is a lot easier to get stuff done on, with and to than the 66 or 79 were.

So reward is quicker too.

Rubbish, Misty and chilly outside today.

So what can I do to keep busy?

Not a lot as mostly I want to be outside.

So I used a cut off 2 liter milk bottle and some oven degreaser, followed by boiling water, then neat dishwashing soap on a brush and cleaned every wheel nut and cap individually, 20 nuts, 11 caps.

Rinsed them all with more boiling water, followed by a further wash and boiling water rinse for the nuts to ensure they were oil and grease free.

Grubby as can be.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(547).HEIC

First wash and rinse.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(570).HEIC

Second wash and boiling water rinse.

Dried.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(571).HEIC

Then fetched some foam] from the garage, sliced a couple of slots deeply into it and fitted the nuts in order to protect the external threads.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(573).HEIC

Painted a few light coats of satin black.

Happy with the result.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(572).HEIC

So I hear a few ask me why ??

Simply put, to fool the eye.

There are only 11 of these wheel nut/centre cap retaining cap screws right now, so visually it should look better if they are all black, than some anodised gold or silvery from damage.

Much effort, but another small visual gain.

PS. Not fitting new wheels till the Poorboys wheel wax from Amazon has been delivered and applied to the wheels while they are off the truck.

Time for another drive now.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

My SKY internet and WiFi was down for 24 hrs, and where I live, my mobile signal is 2 bars on 3G and intermittently 1 bar of 4G

So a struggle to work from home.

However, by 08.00 I got onto this.........

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(577).HEIC

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(578).HEIC

Then late afternoon, well, just after 4.00pm I got out the Poorboys wheel wax.

The stuff is sooo frugal.

You hardly use any.

I did both the fronts and rears of the wheels.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(174).jpg

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(576).HEIC

Once it dries, after 10 plus minutes, you buff it all off with a micro fibre cloth.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(575).HEIC

Hard to believe it makes a difference, and I tried to feel if it felt any smoother, no idea.

But happy to believe that it will aid maintenance.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(143).JPG

Once I was done, looking at how little of this stuff I had used, and that is on both sides, I was amazed at just how frugal it is.

At £14.00 delivered for the tub, I suspect one could expect to do another 50 wheels or more.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(579).HEIC

Another step closer to fitting.

This week has been slow for the truck progress.

Went for a walk.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(581).HEIC

Postie came as I got home.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(580).HEIC

Damaged.

So declined to receive parcel.

Took pics and sent to seller, he has not replied.

Let’s hope he does reply and replace as eBay sent a message email to say I had received my item.

Lodger continues to be a real problem.

Scruffy, dirty, disorganised, drunk, and this morning overslept by 2 hrs, then called in sick.

I see tears, and they will not be mine.

I will be brutal.

However, good news last night from Andy in Tulsa, Oklahoma with the first print section of the RUMBLEGRIZZKIN name that he will be using in casting me a set of new side badges for the truck.

Short video of the magic happening.

Very soon I suspect he will self destruct and play out his own hand.

I do not care what he does to himself.

However, when you leave taps running, all the lights on, leave doors unlocked when you go out to smoke, don’t clean your used crockery etc...... your assss in getting booted.

On Tuesday I gave him a ride to town (7 miles there) and back to ostensibly buy food and toiletries. He is extremely hygiene shy , first lodger ever to be just dirty.

So he bought cookies, crisps, sausage rolls, and two packs of sausages.

Ohhhh and a bottle of Kooparberg cherry rum, and a bottle of lime Gin that he mentioned he owed someone.

Later the evening this was how I found him....... lights all on, movie on his PC, back door open as he had gone out to smoke during the evening.

He had ordered Chinese take away (I hate food going to the bedroom, and may have to address it) there is a table and chairs in the kitchen. The plate and knife and fork took till yesterday to come down after I had asked him 3 times in the previous days to bring stuff down.

So this was what I found. Seen from the door.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(586).HEIC

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(583).HEIC

Then the night before last, I offered him dinner as I had cooked enough, he had dinner, sat down here talking a load of sh!t about festivals, and his achievements of getting drunk, memory loss and ending up in medical tents etc.... clearly a kid parents are proud of. Yes, I judge them.

He then proceeded to head upstairs intermittently and outside to to smoke. Hell.... he stinks.

By 9.00pm he had fallen asleep on the couch, a deep sleep, I told him repeatedly to go up to bed, and he kept saying no.

When he did het up, it took three attempts, he could hardly stand and I was waiting for him to fall over on his face.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(584).HEIC

When I went upstairs an hour later, again, this was what I found......

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(585).HEIC

Speaking to him yesterday, he claims not to recall anything after dinner......

I see tears .......

Not mine.

I would happily slap him into another religion.

But getting Locked up and “prostituted” is not ideal.

Maybe the talking to, I gave him this week has pulled him up a bit.

Last night Sally said “Listen, he is having a shower” so I paused the telly and could hear the pump going. Maybe he showers once a week.

Anyway, you are right, like when we stay over at your home with you and Eve, I do not want you to even know we are there or when we have left.

That’s my way.

Grizz1963 03-07-2021 06:43 AM

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

A rare thing happened yesterday.

Sally came over by 08.30 for tea and toast and to spend some time, I rarely go to her place, as there are no toys, and she prefers to come here..

So we had brekkie together, the watched some recorded telly, and by 12.00 she went home to see her grandson and son, also to allow me to get outside as by then I was feeling very guilty.

I was chuffed though, that I had managed to sit and do nothing for a few hours.

She is a sneaky photographer and waited for me to start looking for a hole in the trucks bulkhead.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(177).jpg

I had two small jobs to do.

Replace the switch on the rear fog light with a metal item and ensure it still worked.

So out with the very broken old red unit. In with the new.

Happy.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(591).HEIC

Next job after finding a small man made hole in the bulkhead was to thread a wire through there.

That was a mistake, as I ended up removing it, and enlarging the hole with a step drill, and then running two wires in there, finding them snaking in from under the dash.

I also used some flat 3 core household wire to thread through the face of the dash, so that I could connect it to the two wires and then pull them up through the dash.

These modern cars are so compactly made, and even the threading of wires are a bit more complex as there is so much under the dash, blocking access.

Still, got it through and then got the wires back up out the front.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(590).HEIC

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(589).HEIC

Next job inside was to drill a hole to take the new metal push button for the Klaxon horn.

I hate damaging the cars plastics, and mad as it may seem, I will keep an eye out for a replacement piece to stash with all the other unused parts.

Mate Kevin who is moving house soon, also popped around for a looksee, couple of mugs of tea and a chat.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(587).HEIC

Once the internal jobs were done, I needed to find a live to draw current from.

As earning was easy via the mounting bolt, and the pigs tail out the horn.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(588).HEIC

And once fitted, happy with the tidiness achieved.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(176).jpg

I forgot to take pics of the completed switches before dark. So good morning.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Decided to spend some cash on the truck

After the effort and cost put into the wheels, I did not manage to find another 9 used caps needed, and to be honest, new will be a lot nicer.

Interesting, as always the cost of a purchase in the USA doubles by the time it lands here.

So $19.99 became $41.00 on my driveway.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(181).jpg

Original GM parts are even more costly before taxes and shipping.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(180).jpg

Sally’s sons car got hit in November in a non-fault accident etc.

The repair was massively delayed and he was unhappy with the finish, so I offered to see if I could trim back some of the runs in the clear (Ended up shaving them back with a sharp blade then hand buffing followed by machine) and also a load of Matt finish, orange peel and overspray.

Masked as much of the black parts as I could get to, then spent 2 hrs at it after washing and drying the side.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(605).HEIC

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(182).jpg

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(604).HEIC

Not easy to see, but it both looked and felt a lot better after all the runs with the DA Mop and G3 Compound.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(186).jpg

And all that was left when he left was a big grin, and a white stripe.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(606).HEIC

Now when wants to buy a mop, going halves wit his brother.

Did I create a monster?

Amazon delivered today.

Lug nut covers ordered on the 8th, extra postage paid for delivery by 12th so delivery by 10th........ great.

Opened and unpacked after completing some online work.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(187).jpg

Can you see anything wrong?

Yup.

Ordered 22mm or 7/8” caps, but delivery was 25mm or 1” items.

So onto Amazon Helpdesk for 40 minutes, AI vs Man

Eventually get told they will refund my account, collect the items and no, they cannot resend the correct items.

It is an Amazon “Seller” whatever that means when you are passing the buck.

So I have messaged the seller (Chinese like on EBay) and asked if the can supply the correct item.

Fingers crossed.

I actually only needed 9 of these caps.

With the list of tasks actually getting shorter and some of the things left to do, only dependant of shipping, couriers and also finding a drone and pilot.....

I took some time to go drive and waste fossil fuels to day, Sally was off to see her eldest son and grandson so I could be ultra random.

Eventually only liked two pics.

And now I guess a post many, including me have waited for.

It felt really bad being to mechanically unsympathetic.

First time I ever tried this sort of thing.

First two attempts done in a straight first gear, the rest, as per @pauly instructions.... put it into D for Devil and try again.

The concrete of the driveway is incredibly coarse and then of course one is on the lawn in moments.

Maybe if I can find a slightly better surface than all these private spaces it could be more impressive.

Or maybe I should stop while I am ahead.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Message from Andy in Oklahoma yesterday.

Progress on the mould positive, for the trucks new name badges that he will be attempting to cast in one piece is progressing.

They will be 400mm long and 40mm tall.

Not sure what level of potential distortion there is on such a long, narrow and somewhat complex casting.

Still, as always I look forward to his progress reports.

In-between he is clearing a large riverside plot, and designing a large house for a friend.

So he is quite busy too.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(193).jpg

Furthermore, @forddan68 will be over in a couple of hours to improve the paint on the truck further.

Contemplating removing the stripes as well.

Less to get in the way of his clay bars and potions, plus it allows all the paint to get the same baseline treatment.

And maybe if I reapply the stripes, which I have grown to like, it may be wise to go a bit darker toward the anthracite of the new wheels

Baseline pic taken this morning, it will be interesting to see if there is a visual change in the refraction angles of the paint and a depth of gloss increase.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(635).HEIC

Lunch will be good too.

Grizz1963 03-20-2021 06:32 PM

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

So promptly at 10.30ma red van, polished to an inch of its life, stopped on my driveway.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(646).HEIC

Chat, catch up, coffee, carport inspection etc, and we were off..... well, Dan was off, I just watched and kept him company.

I had washed the truck, yesterday, so he lathered it, and then got going with the clay bar.

Resulting in a load of grime getting removed, despite washing the car.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(647).HEIC

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(640).HEIC

Also decided to remove the Fleetside badges, which was a bit of a pita.

And grubby as hell underneath

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(645).HEIC

Once washed down, the clay removed the rest of the much.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(641).HEIC

Another coffee, followed by a hot water and wax shampoo wash.

Then dried off completely.

The next step was hand polishing the paint.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(642).HEIC

Starting to look real good.

And the smoothness was absolutely palpable.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(643).HEIC

Dan went around the truck, panel by panel.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(644).HEIC

And looking over the roof, the gleaming paintwork was obviously an improvement.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(639).HEIC

In the mean time, I used some Auto Glym, Bumper and Trim gel on the rear vinyl, cover.

By now, the ribs and chicken were all in the oven, with another 30 minutes to go, we went for a quick drive to Allhallows and then to Grain.

Of course Dan got to drive and I got the feeling that he was actually enjoying it.

It was the least I could do after he had spent three hours treating the S10 to nice shiny paint.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(195).jpg

Then, Back home and dished up meat, and thick slices of Tiger bread and butter, unless you understand it, you never will.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(194).jpg

After lunch, my mate Kevin came over to drop off something and Dan left for home as he actually does have a family as well.

Is ally got in at the same time, so it was cuppa tea, chat etc.

After that I took Kevin’s home to Maidstone, and then typically on the way back took a different route, that was a mistake, as the 4 way traffic light system was so slow I turned the car off altogether, three times while waiting to get to the road works.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(638).HEIC

Eventually made it home.

And grabbed a couple more pics nearby.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(637).HEIC

Amazing that despite it being near 5.00pm and overcast, you can still see the paintwork results of Dan’s work.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(636).HEIC

So I guess the question arises, as to whether I am happy or not.

Absolutely happy.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

In the mean time.....

Last night this happened.

No idea how, but the brain dead lodger came home and managed to toss his electric bicycle against or on the truck bonnet.

No idea how, and of course it would be my fault in his world, as I happened to own the truck.

To date he has not taken responsibility for any of his screw ups.

Some are not published yet.

To say I was pisssed is an understatement.

I just told him to get out of my face nd go to bed when he offered to paint it over for me.

Seriously?

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(648).HEIC

Weekend over of course.

Grizz1963 03-23-2021 03:56 PM

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

So after Dan and I had dealt with the truck I still felt the stripes need to be replaced, as the tailgate pieces were damaged, both from age and when they were fitted.

So yesterday I went out and took a wheel to get a better idea on the colour match of the wheels anthracite and the stripes.

I was shocked at how close the match is , and the stripes are metallic as well.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(649).HEIC

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(650).HEIC

Lodger came home with some clear and hardener as well.

I still don’t want him near the truck, but thought if I just fill the scratch and chip in with clear, it oiled at least halt degeneration somewhat.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(651).HEIC

However, hearing the feedback (no idea on costs) of chip repairers, I am now intrigued as well.

Need to investigate more.

.

Today my back made me scream like a girl just as I got into the truck, well, I tried to get into it.

No more burnouts I think was the idea.

OK.........

So I lied.

So indoors we have a new pile after the final burnout on the Cragars.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(659).HEIC

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(658).HEIC

Sweet skinny assed Mickey and the luckless lodger changed the wheels for me as I was truly crippled with pain and pinched nerves in my back.

I have called the GP surgery to ask for help, got told to call again at 08.00 to see if I can get an appointment.

Fingers crossed. I am screwed right now.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(652).HEIC

So bloody skinny, 76 and nothing stops him.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(656).HEIC

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(657).HEIC

After fitting the wheels, I checked the nuts were tight and added the centre caps and wheel nut caps for a few photos.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(653).HEIC

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(196).jpg

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(654).HEIC

And of course lastly.

A very happy guy, this has taken a while to get to, and to be honest, we are not yet home dry, but soon as the caps land from Katy, Texas, we are in business getting the centre caps secured.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(147).JPG

Happy Chappy.

So every year around this time, Dennis and a gang of friends and family head down to Mexico for 10 days of resort holiday, seeking the sun.

This year, with COVID-19 etc, they decided to go to Arizona, which is still reasonable, with a day booked in at Barrat-Jackson Auctions to see some beauties.....

They got to see expensive stuff being auctioned, ate some good food.

However...... this has been the week.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(198).jpg

I saw this Gen1 S10 on FB.

Crazy?

Of course, but love it regardless. Marmite for sure.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(148).JPG

Spring is here.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(661).HEIC

Mickey is fetching a shed for someone tomorrow

He came to swap license plates....

No, he was just getting up.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(199).jpg

I had told him I needed to get someone clever to wire in a trailer socket for the S10

He came back with this quick fit kit.

Had to explain that it made him the devil.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(660).HEIC

In the mean time, I have started on some meds for my back that has me stoned and gives blurred vision.

Fingers crossed.

Few random pics.

Remember the Fiesta I polished formSally’s son?

He turned 21 on Sunday,.

Added some side skirts to the car, for his birthday.

Now how do you drive this? Could not go over a cigarette packet.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(669).HEIC

On Sunday, I also had to get to a shop and then the post office to get some emergency English PG Tips tea to a friend in Holland as the Retro Rides Gathering had been cancelled of course, so he could not stock up on his favourite brand.

When I came out, this CBR 600 was parked on the side of the building.

Absolutely immaculate for a 13 year old bike.

Some vehicles just seem to have the right genes for not aging.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(204).jpg

After this I drove down to Rochester and stopped for a few random pics of the truck.

Rochester Castle.

Note that it has 3 square towers, and one round one.

Thanks to Oliver Cromwell

Rochester marina.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(665).HEIC

And Rochester bridge, much better pictures available online.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(662).HEIC

Then home.

Mate Darren and Tammy came over later, around 3.00pm and as always it was great seeing them.

Darren collected the Cragar wheels and tyres for his Dodge van build.

All in.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(667).HEIC

All too soon, the weekend was over.

Can you say Beer Truck in Russian.

My friend Vladimir sent it, was tempted to hiJack it, he likes beer.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(210).jpg

This morning @craigrk went to see Steve, who sold me the ZQ8 wheels to collect some more GMC parts.

When he got there, Steve was ready and waiting as the road is a busy road.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(209).jpg

Looking forward,to seeing what’s in the box nd bag.

Could be interesting.

So, in other news........

Lodger is headed to Exeter, possibly for a new job there, living with his mum.

Busy deep cleaning and disinfecting his room, he was not a fan of soap and water.

My back has completely given up on me, so struggling to do pretty much anything.

Yesterday, Sally and I managed to prep one side window tint sheet before my back called it a day.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(212).jpg

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(211).jpg

Once cut and marked, I -it it away, safely in a cardboard tube.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(213).jpg

Nothing else done the weekend.

Except for scouring the personal registration plate sites.

Still not found right and cheap together.

Sooon, I hope.

Random posting.

More for the record, as I do intend to get something done about it at some point, a good repaint for one.

This colour is quite fragile, and will mark easily.

So just the front bumper seems to have its fair share of scratches, and a ding in the steel bumper itself.

Corners

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(674).HEIC

Front

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(676).HEIC

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(677).HEIC

And the big ding.

So it will be either a Dent specialist or maybe a paint shop.

What is the general experience and opinions?

Doesn’t look that bad Grizz.

If it is a forever truck why not go the chips away route and save the money for a respray.

Or just put the marks down as a badge of honour.....

Actually seems like leaving them alone is the best option.

There will be more after all.

My friend Nic, who runs a Turkish tour company and is not averse to Turkish retros......

Has obviously been hit hard by COVID-19 closing his shop.

So in the mean time, he and his wife started to volunteer in Greenhill Gardens in Weymouth where they live.

They go to Portland Sculpture and Quarry Trust, which is where the srone for St Pauls Cathedral in London, came from.

Anyway, he was given a beginners piece to create and carve, sculpt, not sure what you call this work.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(219).jpg

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(217).jpg

Meanwhile, his wife, Sally was allowed to continue with this, maybe she is the more artistic of them.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(218).jpg

Progress, starting to look like a Budha.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(216).jpg

And Nic’s spider progressing more steadily.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(215).jpg

And a bit of a personal piece.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(214).jpg

In other news, yesterday morning it was rather chilly here......

Frost.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(678).HEIC

And a pic, pulled off Facebook.

Now this would float my boat, as an ultimate vision for the truck.

Just need to find a complete, intact Extreme bodykit to fit, and a power hood or whatever it may be called.

Guess that did not take long ehhhhh.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(153).JPG

Anyone got any leads on a full bodykit?

Here in the UK preferably.

So, as a follow on, on the body kit posted yesterday, another one,

Some randomness........

But hey..... someone had the balls, the vision, the cash.

Kids bed in the bed.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(154).JPG

Yesterday a redelivery by Royal Mail.

All the way from Texas, thanks Brelen.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(679).HEIC

Yup.....

Lug nut caps.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(220).jpg

I need to get the Anthracite paint, and redo the centre caps, then add them to the truck.

Also need to check the wheel nuts as I have now done about 100miles on the new wheels and ryres.

So. Yesterday’s little trip was in the S10.

I find myself using it whenever I can find an excuse, though it is a bit of a pain with my back right now.

I was really chuffed to have Sally along for the ride as well.

She is a good girl and good company, always putting up with my random flights of fantasy.

Roads were absolutely easy at 10.00am

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(683).HEIC

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(680).HEIC

First time ever........

Red lights.... allowing the escort vehicle to follow through on two mobile homes.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(681).HEIC

Sally on camera duty of course.

Headed under the Thames River.

https://youtu.be/5oqKdiroTOI

And through the other side.......

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(684).HEIC

Headed for Dagenham, with Waze guiding us through some industrial estates.

Into a residential area

Clearly up and coming.

Question is..........

What did the truck have to collect?

Grizz1963 04-11-2021 04:16 PM

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

So.

Road trip.

What did we fetch.

[
Yup.....

I can say that I struggled to get out the truck after 30 miles to pay the seller.

Her husband and his mate had been forewarned that I wanted it, but could honestly not even lift it into the truck bed.

She had measured it for me. 1550mm x 1280mm

So they loaded the truck for me after we had opened the tonneau cover.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(682).HEIC

No motor and bits n pieces.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(221).jpg

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(223).jpg

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...ix/001(62).PNG

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...ix/001(63).PNG

Ideas??

Well, I cannot currently even tie my shoe laces, honestly.

So why not sit upright, my butt would not fit in the sear for sure.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(161).JPG

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(160).JPG

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(159).JPG

Remember this?

More ideas.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...ix/001(64).PNG

I do have a mobility scooter chassis stashed away.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(224).jpg

Something I recently saw on FB.

Could one create this on a mobility scooter?

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(163).JPG

This morning I went to see what I had bought.

Happy.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(685).HEIC

When loading the gokart chassis yesterday, Andy, the seller said to me “what caliber were you shot with? And it took a few moments to realise what he meant, the holes where the Fleetside badge had need fitted through.

So this morning I also decided to refit the badges till mate Andy in Oklahoma gets around to casting the alumninium pieces for the truck.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(686).HEIC

Mate Gary in Florida kniws I love a battle weary flag.

He texted today that he has two for my garage and carport.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(225).jpg

And in other news, Dennis in St Louis continues to add parts to his NASCAR truck.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(162).JPG

I am so loving the whole stance.

We know it goes now.

Osteopath beat me up really well today with her gentle touch.

Took me 4 hrs + to recover from the pain and walk upright again.

Crazy.

But the good news is that the sunset was lovely.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(687).HEIC

Currently truck just needs to wait.

Its lovely, and will be a great tribute to his friend.

Dennis has not cut corners, in fact, he has added more corners.

Always something.

Noticed at the weekend that the tailgate retaining cables were not quite as they should be.

The drivers side was held captive by a Nyloc nut, and the passenger side had its original equipment fitted, so could release the slotted cable end.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(689).HEIC

As fitted.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(691).HEIC

Whats missing.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(690).HEIC

Conversely, the drivers side unit had been replaced by this part.

Not ideal.

So with zero chance of finding one here in the UK, I decided that slightly rounding off the corners of the bodged nut would be as good as it gets for now.

Bench grinder to the rescue.

Back on the truck.

Do e.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

For me, right now, even driving 14 miles to town and back ends up in some serious pain.

Mate Kevin drove over to see me today from Maidstone and picked up some anthracite paint at Halfords.

I had decided after painting the centre caps silver, that it was not the right colour and needed changing, regardless of outcome.

So a reasonable match it seemed.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(695).HEIC

First of two coats.

Difference apparent

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(693).HEIC

First coat on.

Second to follow.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(694).HEIC

Then Sally popped in, on her way home and I managed to seduce her.......

Withone of these, before she headed off to do a load of chores

Bacon (loads of it) and egg toasty sandwich.

Then she went off and I added coat one of clear to the anthracite, which perfectly made it a touch darker.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(228).jpg

And much later, a second coat of clear

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(227).jpg

Have to say, I am really pleased with the outcome.

Fitting when I get a chance.

Thanks mate.

I will...... eventually.

Remember this little guy?

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(690).HEIC

Seemed highly unlikely that I would find one randomly, but then randomness is often what drives the fun factor in our hobby.

Just think of the set of ZQ8 wheels that landed in my lap, sold to me by a guy who had no need for them, and did not realise how desperate I was to find a set to put the truck back to standard.

Crazy stuff I know.

It happens.

Yesterday morning when I woke, a Messenger message from a good friend, Ric, in Chandler, Arizona.

Asking whether I had found the rear tailgate pin yet to replace the stud and Nyloc nut currently fitted.

Of course I had not.......

So he offered to post one out to me, taken from his previous race truck, he is a keen Auto Cross driver and has a few other interesting cars stashed away, awaiting his attention.

As he says, at his age, this is an affordable, reasonably safe, and skill improving sport to participate in.

He does compete against all sorts of really powerful and capable kit, being that his truck is s along wheelbase, slow, slightly modified vehicle and his daily. He still works as an auto mechanic.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(166).JPG

So the previous truck had two non fault accidents, the second one being part of a 34 car pile up where he was car no 7 in the action.

Leaving Truck No 1 looking sorry for itself.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(165).JPG

In the pile up the rear end got bent too, so he bought an identical truck to build the race parts over onto.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...x/001(164).JPG

So my day yesterday, other than my niggly back, actually ended really well, and another nice sunset.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(697).HEIC

So much to be said for living rurally.

Centre caps to finally be fitted later today, once they have been in the sun to harden the many coats of clear I added.

Looking forward to this.

Hey Clem,

Thanks for checking in and posting up here.

Life is good, even when we struggle, there is someone who has a bigger struggle.

Carrying on.

Three coats of clear.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(700).HEIC

Colour really is alive in this choice of Anthracite.

Tried the wheel nut covers.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(699).HEIC

And amazing how different it looks indoors, on a white dogs duvet cover.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(698).HEIC

On my way back from the osteopath I did a 200 meter detour to check up onthese trees.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(704).HEIC

Back to getting home, I needed to keep. Moving in order not to seize up.

What better way, than to fit these long overdue and now correctly painted centre caps.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(703).HEIC

I was walking around the truck after fitting them..... swearing, just repeatedly saying “Dang.... this looks good, this is so right”

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(702).HEIC

And a side shot.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag.../001(701).HEIC

To say I am cuffed is an understatement.

I am so chuffed.

It was the right choice to go with the new wheels.
