Looking awesome jgr. I put my headers on and then got lazy. Just need to pop on exhaust and fenders and it's off to alignment shop (Les Schwab probably)after converting to discs on the front, power steering and lowered a little.

Lots of work done recently to get the old truck back in daily service. No power steering was the biggest factor keeping me from daily driving it. Here's a before and after of the engine bay:

Truck has been idling ROUGH all of a sudden. I pulled off the air/fuel mixture screws(Edelbrock 1406) and those puppies were covered with a bunch of gunk. Cleaned those off and the truck idles a little better now. I think I need to give the carb a good cleaning and adjusting though.

Today I finally had time to start polishing the trucks paint. I'm happy with the results from a few hours of work, its not exactly super shiny by any means but its a huge improvement over how oxidized the paint was. It at least looks like the trucks red now. Some of the paint is probably too far gone but I'm hoping with a little more work I can get some more shine out of it. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Remember to wax each panel after you've polished it else the paint will soon look worse than it did before .
I like this rig . |

Upper radiator hose, pump to carb fuel line.
Realized the radiator and thermostat housing are dying, and I have a ton of cleaning to do. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. Putting around in Old blue. |

and booking another vaca for this year.. just was boom.. She doesn't understand why I don't just buy what it needs and/or I want and charge it.. I'd rather not.. and save and buy .. It's all good,, she came home from work and asked why I hadn't used the gift card she got me for my x mas/b day to summit to get heads.. I sad I had to save up to get them.. she was like " I gave you a gift card of 125.00 " I replied, I know.. then opened the afr site and the page for the heads, and handed her the laptop.. she was what is this, I said this is what the cost.. her jaw dropped.. I said, I had the money put aside for them an intake and the machine work.. but you wanted to go to Hawaii for our 10th.. All I got was if those cost that much, how much is the stuff in basement.. I said more than your truck repair and less than the diamond on your finger.. Great wife but no clue on what stuff cost.. last summer A few streets away someone was selling a mustang.. She was like, I'd like that, even if it isn't the year I really want.. It was a green on green 1971 mach 1 , I stopped and let her get out and look at it, As I sat in the car as I knew it was going to be big bucks.. and wasn't going to bother.. She looked it over and was I likey.. I said, hope you plan on a good bonus, at that point she looked at the for sale sign and got back in the car.. She said it wasn't bad only 3500 I said I think you missed a zero.. she got out and looked again.. and yup.. it was, she got into our car and I said now you know why I was mad when I found a 1970 for 4000 and you only said wrong year.. All good, Don't think she'll be asking for a 68 fastback again anytime soon :mm:  |

I finally got around to replacing my proportioning valve that was leaking out the front, small leak but annoying. CPP sent me a new one last year. I drove the truck with a sandwich bag taped below the valve to catch the fluid, Rube Goldberg would've been proud!

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Was it leaking from where the black cap is in your bottom pict? I have one doing the same thing now. I was kind of hoping it would stop or was some type of bleed.
|
Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Yes it was leaking out of the front. I called CPP and they sent me a new one no charge. Seems the had a bad batch of the valves.

toolboxchev, you talking about a mirror not working? If so what's the problem? I have all the diagrams for the different hook ups. The wiring is basic but the connectors are a little different depending on the models. I have also found some sensor want read right with some of the mirrors I have.:chevy: |

NH temps have been in the mid 60's, so I got motivated to work on the truck today.
I replaced my steering gear last summer, but the steering was getting sloppy again by fall. I then garaged it for the winter. Today I hooked up a rope to the steering wheel so I could move it back and forth while underneath. I found that all 4 bolts on the steering gear were loose and it was moving up and down when I turned the wheel. 1 bolt had backed out about 1/2 and inch. I replaced all 4 bolts and lock washers and torqued them to spec. I will keep a closer I on it when driving season returns in April. I also replaced the center Yankee 77 marker light with a better one I picked up last fall. |
