Working at slow pace just no energy . But I got the tailgate on without incident . Not sure what I’m doing with the chains and link . Was thinking just paint and some big’ol shrink tubing it’s the one thing I don’t like about a stepper . Still need to adjust the bedsides just a tweak here and there . Next I’m going to hang the doors and put the glass back in . Guess I’ll have to do something with the bumper

Well its looking good. You could blast and powder coat the chains or just get replacement ones.

Here's my old OEM '68 lens, much crystalized by solar radiation. You can see, with the concentric rings, the angle at which the lamp housing is mounted, isn't important, since it's a circle. But with the parallel type, the lines on the Passenger Side run NW/SE, not level. |

I wonder if they installed two LH brackets on your truck.

Not going to drill new holes to ''level'' the aspect of the P/S lens. I will just live with it. I took numbers off the lenses: [OEM] GUIDE SAE R-6x [x = too cracked to read] Replacements: TMO 6314-1 TOP SAE R-70 GLO-BRITE [and an arrow-like symbol] |

My RH bracket has the mounting holes in different locations than yours, and you can see the "R" stamped in it. Maybe yours has an "L" stamped on the side facing the rear of the truck.

Here's the part number for the Fresnel lenses. The parts catalog lists them for 66-68, but superceded by the version with the horizontal lines.

Friday night, in Deer Season. Actually, Deer Season is in the Fall. This truck was a late winter/early spring child. Also, that would have a lot more pull with a Michigan crew. For Fremont, in the Bay Area, it was probably tickets to the Dead at the Fillmore. Anyway, with concentric rings [Fresnel lens] no one noticed for 54 years. :chevy: |
Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
The backup lights and brackets were missing from my truck when I bought it. I acquired a set of OE brackets from member 396ci down in Modesto. I don't know what year truck they were from. I wonder if they didn't start making unique R and L brackets until they started using the lenses with the horizontal lines.

I guess the parallel line style also matches the look of the MY '69 Parking Light lenses. That pic of the Fresnel lenses, p/n GM5958622, is it of items in your possession, or just an internet/Spacebook pic? Only '66, '67, '68? No wonder there are no back up lights or lenses for those early years in the catalogs. The parallel line type must be cheaper to make. Less plastic, and thinner. |

Those Fresnel lenses in the pic are in my possession and are installed on my truck now. Here are the lines from the parts catalog. Looks like 5958622 (Fresnel) might have been from 66-70, and then 5961260 (parallel) were from 71-75.

An original marked SER R 66 . Both my new ones are different I have a picture of the NOS right side it says SER R 71 with the box and part number
I’m thinking since they ran from the early 50s to the Square's they just use whatever was on hand |

Picked up this AM/FM truck radio for a song. Running it through its paces before installing it. So far, so good. It is missing the AM and FM inserts behind the slider, and the original lens was replaced with a blank piece of plexiglass.
