In case someone does not realize, the last 2 "pictures" are actually videos. You have to click on them.

Cool to see it running.

Bag works great for road trips, no rusty bottom. I may have had it just as long as you have, still have my duffel bag, that thing has some miles on it

I think my tool bag was first used by the medics in my MC days

Congrats on your newest award, TOTY

Front hub is disassembled. light rust removed, gave it a couple coats of grease and bees wax, the one you buy at the hardware store (toilet seal ring)

I don't want to take it to far apart, but I don't want it to rust much more, so I use a coating of wax and grease

PO was in here before me, screwed up the bearing races slightly

Not sure if you can see it, but the PO was in here grinding on the bearing seat. some people shouldn't have tools

This maybe my most useful tool yet, worked great for seeing inside hub to align locking rings and plate

when you first take the hub apart, check to see if the threads are in good shape. Nothing worst then cross threading these retaining nuts

As you can see, the PO didn't have the proper tool, so he just used a punch, damaging the outer locking nut

Not shone, a plate that sits on the bearing, supports the spring for the locking hub

If the slot is at 12 o'clock, then my pin is at 11:50

put a lttle grease on it so it won't fall off as you're trying to assemble

caliper mounted, looked every where for new mounting bolts and used bolts, but all I could find were chinese knockoffs, any ideas would be helpful?

not sure on these brake pad retaining clips, are they just for assembly or do they stay on?

so, after talking to Wes, he has used the after market ones with success, just ordered from Rock Auto we'll see friday

stub axle? wanted to move in about 3/8" making it difficult to get the snap ring seated, found a bolt with fine threads that would grab it, allowing me to pull out

finished lock out, may send chrome cover out to get replated, only fugley piece of the whole system
Deadhead Minn. seems to have a good source

after thought, I think I read somewhere maybe Special K, that you should only use a light oil on this step of the reassembly, as grease is to heavy and sticky to allow proper function of the lock out

I think that is correct. I do remember 1st time I pulled hubs on the 69 I had at the time, I greased the lockouts when I put them back together and 1st time I needed them could not get them to lock in.

As Wes said, these caliper bolts are a direct replacement, except bolt head size

Thanks Richard for confirming that, still have that piece for the heater shroud, just been to busy to ship

Re: PO has me PO'd

Attempting to bench bleed my M/C, bought some metal pre flared tubing from NAPA (7/16 and !/2") just bent by hand to circle back into m/c chambers

never tried this method before, so we'll see how it goes. Videos on line show it just leaking out of the ports. as long as the tubes are below the fluid level in the chambers I think this will work

still have to build a bracket to keep the plunger from moving

Seems like this method worked, just loosened up the three bolts, 1 for the M/C bolt and 2 for the prop valve, so I could start the fittings by hand, nothing worse than cross threading fittings at this point!!

Now onto the bleeders

Thinking of supporting the safety pin on the prop valve, so it doesn't slide open, but can't think of a way yet

Forgot to mention that I pushed on the pedal when the recirculating pipes were in place, seemed to get the air out

This old coating from eastwood seems to be impervious from brake fluid

I've got brakes....

Not overly impressed with my chinese knockoff of a mighty vac. Zero setting was off by 4 inches of vacuum, fitting were a bit large to seal on the bleeder. I worked around them

Pumped it up to 25 inches, opened up the bleeder, and sucked fluid into the container. CAREFUL, the back chamber on the M/C is very small. On first pull, you can empty it quickly, after that you can fill up the cannister 1/2 way, before the chamber needs fluid

I bleed it down till I have about 10 inches then shut off bleeder

Great method for a one man bleeder

Thanks Roger, that is the word I was looking for and it fits, plus it can easily be undone done the road if the post owner doesn't like it

BTW, I want to thank Harlowhead for sending me the female electrical connecter for the harness coming off of my steering column free of charge, not even shipping, what a good member. Things like that make this the best board on the net

Thank you Harlowhead!!!!!
