Couldn't help myself. If it was a factory marking that ever made it on a St. Louis truck...we're going with it. See member 75gmc454's '71 Cheyenne as the reference for this one. Consider it a love letter to the St. Louis line workers.

My brother happened to be in town for the first time in quite a while. It was fortuitous, as we could use an extra set of hands to set the bed. Our cab and chassis days are behind us now...she's a pickup again.

We loaded her up and I took her to Lord's Exhaust in Commerce, GA today. I went armed with the 4WD exhaust diagram and several pics of original exhaust trucks including a screen grab of the low mileage Super that was on My Classic Car.

I couldn't find any OE exhaust hardware. The closest I could find to OE(and what I ordered) were these generic hangers and flat clamps. The clamps are from OPG and the hangers can be found from multiple sources online (I got mine from Del City). The clamps didn't get here until today so they haven't made their way on the truck yet. I got the hangers assuming we'd cut them to the correct length.

Steven at Lord's was great. He took my requests in stride and kindly worked hard to build an exhaust system as close as he could to factory spec.

The parts book diagram shows three hangers. One from the flag style frame bracket in front of the muffler, one aft of the muffler at the rear edge of the cross member, and then from a tab bracket on the frame rail for the tailpipe. I don't think that's how this truck came. The flag style frame bracket on this truck has a high arch. The one pictured in the parts book is flat and what I was familiar with on the Blazer and later model 4x4s. On the Blazer it was at the level of the transfer case. On this truck it is farther back...which means, even if you put the muffler as far forward as you can relative to this bracket..the muffler still extends past the crossmember where mounting point "A" (as labeled in the book) would connect. So we just hung it at the front and rear frame rail brackets and it seemed just fine. If it were a LWB or if the forward bracket were at the level of the transfer case...I think we could have used all three mounting points.

While I was bird dogging poor Steven, Eric was painting the front fenders, tailgate and mirror arms. Hopefully we can get them mounted, get some fluids on board and see if any of this stuff works.

Fun pic to share. It's getting close to party time when the jewelry starts to go on. Eric slapped the tailgate on all by his lonesome and without a mark. She's still in the doghouse though while he finishes the cut and buff on the front fenders. Hopefully they'll get hung tomorrow. No bumper until the license plate holder gets shot argent. Eric is going to paint that along with some Rallys (somebody I know is hellbent on having a set of fresh Rallys as an alternative shoe choice. Hint: It's not me or Eric)
