Frame looks good!

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Nice and clean looking on the frame.
The Diff. looks in perfect shape :metal: |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Rear frame is painted, two coats primer and two coats black.
Thats ready to take the IRS :metal: But paint has to dry...so on with drilling out broken bolts of that same IRS. Bolt is out, but I have to make new thread. It was 7/16 and it will be M12 metric, because I have enough of that ;) I made a bolt just like the original on the lathe, except it's an M12. No pics yet, sorry. I also did consult NoClassic, because he also has Jag IFS, and is "two" steps ahead of me...I belief he's in driving state  I asked him about the shockmount measurement, and what I came up with is almost the same as what NoClassic has. So took the Grinder and made some mounts: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-_...o/IMG_2444.JPG I made them of 5mm thick angled steel. This is what it looks like: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-M...o/IMG_2445.JPG https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-f...o/IMG_2446.JPG Sorry about the hand and the bad quality of the pics, made with my cellphone.... |

Nice shock mount Kees. You are moving right along!

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Nice work!
Have you seen this build, they are also using the Jag suspensions front and rear. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=653170 |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Kees,pic looks find, nice bracket...Jim

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Thanks guys!!
No, I had not seen it ChuckDriver. Just read it, they have a bit more work than me :metal: Great to see a family involved in a build ;) Yesterday I talked about a broken bolt in the carrier, this is my solution to get it repaired. I drilled the broken bolt out, made new thread just milimeter thicker, from 7/16" (11 mm) to M12 metric https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-y...o/P1260117.JPG The bracket is hold by the two (!!) bolts, that at his turn holds the lower control arm. The bolt on the right I've made, the bolt on the left is from Jag. Here you can clearly see the difference in size: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-X...o/P1260118.JPG When you bolt everything together it looks like this: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-3...o/P1260119.JPG Put some new paint on it, just because I can :lol: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-q...o/P1260120.JPG While I was at it, I could, at the same time, move the diff permanently to his new home, so I did: https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-f...o/P1260121.JPG Tonight I cleaned the lower control arms and mounted them on the diff. Also gave them some shiny black paint. Unfortunately no pics of them, because I forgot to take all my digital stuff.... That's for next time!! |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Always a good thing when painted parts are going back on!

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Nice safety wire job.

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Damn Kees, I keep repeating myself, but it's a fantastic build!

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Nice work as usual...Jim

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Nice fix on the bolt.
Looks real good. Kim |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
1 more check off the list!!!
|
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Thanks again guys!!
And indeed one more check off the list ;) Just two thousend to go, more or less....:metal: Just got back of a few hours work, nothing much done... Welded the shockmounts on the subframe: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-A...o/P1260126.JPG Also made an extra gusset at the front side of the subframe, 'cause you never know ;) https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-x...o/P1260127.JPG Took a pic of the rear that I promised you: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-U...o/P1260125.JPG Calipers next, then the half shafts and shocks...almost ready!! Back to the front, I have a broken bolt on the lower control arm, I drilled it out. https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-4...o/P1260129.JPG Here you see the broken bolt, it's a 3/8" unf, 5 grade. Difficult to come by overhere. Searched on the net what I could use to have the same strenght, looks like your grade 5 is the same as our 8.8 bolts... That makes it a lot easier to repair the bolt holes. I think I drill them all to metric M10, also is mounting the springpan a lot easier to do ;) Then I can use 4 threaded bars to get the spring at his place, instead of one thread through the middle... We'll see... |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Nice job! Can't wait to see this thing on it's wheels..!

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Looks real good.

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Just curious, where do the tops of the front shocks mount on the Jaguar car?
|
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
It's interesting that a British car has so many non-metric bolts.

The British don't have the Metric system... yet...they don't have the Euro neither :smoke: I also started with the wheelspacers out of airplain aluminium. Pretty hard stuff, I must say! This is what I started with: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-y...o/P1260033.JPG After some turning and drilling I got to the point thjat I could testfit it on the wheelhub: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-V...o/P1260124.JPG Fits pretty good, also in the wheel itself. Now have to turn the inner holes at the right size, make holes for the countersunk wheelnuts and wheel studs. I did draw the drill lines on the next one also: https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-3...o/P1260123.JPG I have to make these, because the tires are just not hitting the inner fender walls at the back, I want some more room to avoid future problems. So few hours of work left, for me at home ;) Tomorrow I get a towbar from a Trailblazer I belief. Hope it fits the '59 chassis. I have to unmount it myself and then get it for free, I'm a happy man :sexy: |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Kees, doing some nice work, and it looks great...Jim

No buildthread yet, still working on my convertible bug... It's going to be more of a winterproject, and just like you i need to get it registered first;) |
Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed
Today I bolted the rear calipers on, the radius rods the and torque arms.
Looks great and I think it will work as designed;) https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-8...o/P1260132.JPG https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-u...o/P1260130.JPG Next I can bolt the halfshafts on, I have them at home, was buzzy turning aluminium things....:lol: Now I have the spacer size right, I can take them to the truck again. I also drilled the bolt out of the front lower control arm. I make all the bolts at metric M10, that's easier for me. But then again I must also drill out the bolts for the lower shockmounts, they too are rusted in the L.C.A. More work, but I'll get there ;) Get the towbar yesterday, unbolted really easy. It's just a little bit wider as the frame of the TF truck, so I have to make something to get that right. Will do a search on that little problem. The towbar came off a 90's Blazer. |
