Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Great job man, it looks spectacular!
You gotta do one more video where the truck is driving away under full throttle so we can hear it roar! :metal: |
Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
I'm here all day, all week so get those lines you need welded up to me and you'll be one step closer to ALL DONE! It looks (and sounds) fabulous!

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Looks and sounds great Chip Congrats on a well planned out transplant. Looking forward to more videos :metal:
Sounds like you guys up north have close Chevy fraternity too. Helping brothers out is what we do. |
Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Congrats Chip!

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Thanks to all- I appreciate the props!
Vic, the parts got sent home with Boppa. He should be getting in touch. Thanks again for all the help. Mike, over the last couple years it seems that way. It's a good thing. Hope we can all get together at the Nats, that's a ball. |
Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
:cong: Sounds great, Running nice and smooth. Shouldn't have any trouble getting the rest of the stuff done for Nats.

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
That is ONE SAWEEEEET TRUCK you have there.
Gonna be FUN |
Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Thanks Greg and Wes. Thanks also to Vic, for welding up the A/C fittings yesterday. Wound up going sideways last night, only made lists and phone calls. But it's gone silly hot till at least wednesday. Hopefully get out there tonight.

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
What did you use for a yoke to meet your driveshaft to the new tranny?
|
Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
We started with a turbo 350, then a 700r4, then the 4l60e. Same yoke all three.
|
Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Would the yoke on my 3 speed manual be the same?
|
Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
I have no idea. Should be some charts on the ol interwebs, or PM Clinebarger. Sorry!
|
Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
TH400 is a different yoke than the 350, 700r4 and 4l60e. I had the TH400 in my truck before my swap, I'm installing a 4L60e and had to switch yokes.
|
Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
We got leaky yokes, all over the place up in here (Punching Bag). I know there's only like a small number of different styles/lengths but it sure is a mystery. If anyone has a link to a good reference table that'd be killer!
Been eyeballin a bunch of LS swaps around this place and I've gotta say Chip, you boys nailed it! Boppa is gonna love this thing and I bet you score another for LBT or.... the S10!! You really did it well on the cheap (with a little help from your friends). The benny's vs. $$ on Yeller is hands down. It'll get the job done better than you would have done with a fancy SBC - perfect, well done! Dude is gonna hole-shot them other cotton-tops while draggin a boat around and still get 15+mpg with an always perfect tune. Been rockin the Fu Manchu since you posted that up on Greg's build. Think I may have frazzled my old Pioneer amp blazin that Strato-Streak solo while I was cleaning up from the winch project on the Crummy tonight. Any other bands like that I should be Google'n? "Double nickel ride by... dun-a-nugh!!!" What's the story on BBT's susp-ectomy? Wanna see them wheels and the drop! |

Thanks for the props, John. Would not have been possible without Eric and Vic. It's nice to have a guide on your first time in the woods. Boppa is super stoked. (Cottontops. BAahahahahah!) The insurance on it is due for renewal (Chrome) So the appraiser is coming by tonight to reappraise. I'm hoping to do some paint and start on the cluster tonight. The drop should be good to go Fri night. Here's hoping it goes well, then Alignment Tuesday, stereo shop Tue night (don't ask) and hoping to repolish late in the week. Spindles, McGaughy's struts, notch, flip and a lift kit (yes) to hopefully give me some rake. Let's see, got a little busy last night, we had a small break from the heat, so I got some work in squeezed around new fridge delivery, dinner, Etc. Made up wires for the brake and speeedo to the harness Got said wires hooked in Got the brake switch wired in Hooked up the fuel gauge Got the rear harness hooked up Got the throttle pedal pulled, cut for harness clearance, cut up to reposition, modded and rewelded. Cleaned up the wiring for the e-fans, it was set up for a much longer install, neat and tidy now. Hope I can pull all this off.:smoke: |
Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!
Got appraised after the upgrades last night, oof!
Got the motor run in and fluids topped off. Got the laser gun out and checked the temps, fans come on right at 180 on the heads. Got the throttle pedal reinstalled Hooked up big core support to frame ground Still no backup lights, NSS DOES work! Have a small interference problem with the driveshaft and exhaust, gonna have to slice and dice a bit. Checked the AC fittings, one was great, one was off. Cut it up and re-marked to go back to Vic. Boppa got the TAC module and a couple other things bolted down. Still gotta start on the cluster. |
