Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver
Got the MAF wires ran across in the wire gutter on the core support and then finished bundling and securing the wires from the engine to the PCM. Then took her on her maiden voyage:metal: Two laps around the block, added some more coolant then off to the gas station for gas and some trans fluid. Plenty of power :bo2: Gas fill leaks though:waah:

Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver
we get some visual proof soon right? ;)
|
Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver
Glad to hear you got the maiden voyage out of the way. Any chance we'll see a burn out video?
|
Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver
Video(s) will be posted as soon as I get a chance and find a place to do it. This thing is LOUD when you get on it! Maybe I should work on exhaust
I pulled two codes out of it last night after my gas trip. P0643-fuel level sensor......should have been turned off in the computer P0650-Check engine light, need to buy a led for this. Oh, the hydroboost brakes.....holy (fill in the blank) This thing will stop on a dime! I have never driven a truck that has this good of brakes. |
Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver
and my question is do you need new rear tires already? congrats, didn't take long for you to get it put together at all

Did a bit of wiring in the cab today-finally hooked up the wiring to the brake switch so the torque converter will lock. Had a little help... http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m...y/P1060653.jpg Then took her on about a half hour cruise. No burning this time, just a nice cruise. The thing is just so smooth! I did get stuck in some traffic and I was worried the fan was too far away from the radiator, but she stayed under 200. More pics sometime this weekend. |

I know, I'm slacking on pictures:lol: I guess I'm just enjoying it too much. I threw some plywood in the bed and used it to haul 600 pounds of scrap metal to the scrap yard today. I'm still amazed how nice it drives! On the way back from the scrap yard I stopped into a couple exhaust shops for quotes(350-450). I think I'm going to use these mufflers: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PYE-MVR33/ Any input? |

For about the same money you can get the Hooker Aero Chamber mufflers. They perform well in the dyno tests and sound great. I have put them on two vehicles of mine in the past and really liked them. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HOK-21502HKR/ There are video clips on youtube of various vehicles with them for you to hear them for yourself. |

Thanks! The pressure line from pump to HB unit is from a 85 C/20 diesel. The pressure line from HB to steering gear is made from Jegs teflon AN-6 hose with adapters(forgot what size). The mounting plate and extension came from this guy: http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showt...ght=hydroboost Then the little spacer I made that goes in the master cylinder hole is made from a cheap 3/8" extention 1 1/16" long. |

Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver
wow never seen a truck rust perfectly in half
|
Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver
that bed looks pretty solid to me...
...will be interested to see how it looks after sandblasting. I had a cab that looked almost rust free....but as I sanded it...the metal disappeared  |
Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver

I guess I should re-word:lol: I gave him a small deposit to pay for blasting and I will give him the balance once its done and it there is still a floor left. Oldblue, It was rusted perfectly in half right at the front bed crossmember. I just made the hole a little bigger for easy access to other things. :sexy: |

Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver
I hope you end up with a good bed after the blasting is done. It's amazing what you will find under the paint some times.
I found chicken wire & card board covering a rust hole the size of a softball in a door once. It had about a gallon of bondo in the door alone. It didn't look too bad with a coat of paint on it. |
Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver
Got a real good deal on these gauges, paid ~25% I will need to buy a tach and get the correct gas gauge.
http://www.jegs.com/i/Auto+Meter/105/1402/10002/-1 So started working on this http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m...y/P1060823.jpg http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m...y/P1060826.jpg Thinking about leaving the button and making it the trip/reset button for the speedo. http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m...y/P1060828.jpg |
Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver
That's what I'm making mine out of too. Pretty cool idea for the button.
