98' thats my life man, always something every vehicle I own has something I need to fix. The starter is only 3yrs old and not used much, I think it was just soo cold out that was creating the issues, cause it doesn't do it in the warm. Headlight, second one so far I had to replace, got the brighter version this time.

Shannon, thanks man. other projects haven't been touched in a while. I got soo tied up with this show and work, and the cold I haven't worked on them. I'm gonna try and get my garage finished Feb, also go my baby girl coming this month. Then I'm goin full swing on trying to get this 49' suspension bagged and work on new engine for it.

I'm just slowly doing metal and body work to my 52' parts. can't wait to start the threads but just not alot of exciting stuff to show right now.

99 to Life, I figured the baby was soon due. Then the excitement will start. And you thought you do not have time now! It is a good thing though. Good deal on the garage. I am ready for spring so much now. I am having withdawals from not driving mine! This cold weather sucks. I have a bullet heater in the garage so it gets warm pretty quick. I can not wait for the build threads.

Well, I can't imagine having less time to work on stuff now. If it gets any less I might as well forget about finishing anything!! I can't wait to see my baby though and spend time with her. But this stuff is a part of my life and maybe someday will be a part of hers. I'd love to build her a car. I have a 53' belair I'm wanting to do for a family car too. So that and the two trucks are what I really wanna just get started. Once I get the ball rolling and see some solid moch ups going, I'll stop stressin. Right now I got pieces everywhere and a garage half done and a slew of tools to buy along with a slew of debt to pay off!!

98' hell yeah I feel that, life is a funny challenge. its all about balance.

48 gmc burb,

1st off, luv the gmc's and the burbs. Thanks, don't get it twisted, I should drive this thing way more than I do. just have sooo much going on its hard to really take it on some road trips. But I had her out in the elements and as much as I hated to do that, it was worth it. She is back in the garage for now, hoping to have her out more this coming year. But I'm getting really antsy about my other builds, I think I'm gonna put a lot of stuff off and get back on the grind with these like I was my 51'. Got a baby coming in 3 weeks, sooooo i'm sure I'll be wanting to spend more time with her. thanks again.

2-19-13 Not too many updates, had to replace a headlight and actually with a brighter one. Here is a painting my buddy brent did for a nice surprise http://brentmuir.blogspot.com/ he also did this illustration for my "light" blend of coffee and is also working on some illustrations for my story line for my website.

Been working a little bit on my 49'. Just picked up some drop spindles for it today. Had to give the dash an extensive facelift. I got my baby coming within the next 3-4 days so its gonna halt some work for a little. My plan is to take the metal off my 49' frame and start prepping the s-10 suspension (baggin it). All while finishing my garage up. During the week I put a couple hours in on the dash here and there. Got about 10 more I'd say. I'll be posting a build thread as soon as I get some progress on the frame.

Nice painting. Must be nice to have projects just waiting for you.

Re: 51' 3100 build in PA New to Site

daverod, ahhhhh well its a catch 22. I got sooo many projects lined up and no time to work on them. or as much as I'd like. Its really actually stresses me out cause I'm a go getter. I don't like stuff sitting, I wanna get them goin. But I know someday the ones that are years away, atleast I know they aren't getting scrapped. Could always part some out too. Thought of getting my salvage license so I could have 30 acres of vintage autos, then part most of them out. But the weather here in PA where I'm at is really not that good, so they would go to crap faster than most places. Been trying to get roofs over stuff, but its hard when you keep pile stuff on your land. :waah:

Re: 51' 3100 build in PA New to Site

Looking forward to the bagged one. For me it's a 69 or a 46 next. One of each body style.

99 to Life 02-22-2013 12:58 AM

Re: 51' 3100 build in PA New to Site

oh the 46' please!!!!!!!!! my bagged one will be very similar to yours in suspension. I'm most likely going to build my bottom link bars and was hoping to maybe do a triangulate as well, still up in the air. Gotta get my garage up, frame stripped down and will work on the front first.

Re: 51' 3100 build in PA New to Site

haha 46's seem kinda harder to find than a 69. But I'll keep looking. Maybe another AD. Would like to paint one. Seems like it would be a easy paint job. Yes, garage up would be first on my list. I do that stuff every day so that would be the easy part. I still can't believe I bulit a truck and it runs. Thanks for all your help along the way.

Re: 51' 3100 build in PA New to Site

daverod, man 46' would just be cool though and yeah much harder to find. A painted AD yup going that route too, just a lot of time and work and more money and more time. but yeah you can do most of it in sections as opposed to a whole long panel. Well, I'll be taking notes on your thread so right back at you man. Gotta luv these blogs, they make building stuff so much more possible. I never had anyone teach me anything about cars so I gotta learn most of it from net, experience and failures.

Anybody figured out how to install all new side window hardware and insulation so window doesn't rattle? I installed side windows after many banged up knuckles and figured out how to get window assy in and out but the after market insulation and so called rattle gaskets are a pain and don't work well. I got mine from LMC Truck Parts but haven't seen other catalog sales with better options. I also can't find source for interior trim molding for two pcs wind shield.

foyth, my windows rattle, I didn't install new insulation yet so Im of no help.

Well, I been beyond busy. My baby is almost 3months old and is doing awesome. I'v been traveling back and forth to work during the week. So my evening times to work on stuff is cut down to 2 nights a week. I still get about a day on the weekend to do something. Got my new garage about halfway up, then I had to stop and do a bunch of other crap. Need alot of fencing put up and excavating done still.

My temp sender for my efan crapped out on me. So everytime you turn the key the fan would kick right on. So I just ordered up a whole new kit, took the sender out of it and threw her in. Fixed the problem. So I really haven't been able to drive the truck much and will prolly miss all this summers events. I really need to get the truck aligned actually and I been thinking about putting a set of vortec heads on my engine.

I'm in the process of building a full roller vortec topped with a carb that will be goin in my 49' which I promise will start a thread on soon. Just wanted to get a few more things going so there is some content for yinz to see.

Hey Henry you interested in a pretty clean 3 window cab with all the needed front floor patch panels included for around 600-700? My buddy has one he's thinking of selling.

Ohh and if ya want check out my buddys thread of the 51 we picked up the weekend after you stopped over. Threads called "area 51 ocd meets add" or something close to that.. haha

Been scarce on the updates I know. Super busy with the baby, work, the yard, fencing, trying to get my trailer all legal and getting this 52' fastback that no one would have possibly wanted. Came with some good parts and title but car is beyond gone. I had to torch it off of the frame because it wasn't winching up with tacoed front tires. Still might go back and get engine and trans etc. but its a 180 mi round trip that I've had to make twice for it, so I'm kinda over it.

Had my truck out for inspection and had a place look at it for alignment but said their machine couldn't do it with the fenders on, sooooo I gotta find someone else that can do it and or just take the fenders off and tow it in.

Almost done with my tiny 18x24 garage that will barely house my 49' 3100 that is up next. Been putting some hours in redoing the dash and also on the engine. Its going to be a full roller 350 vortec, carbed. Should be a nice stout engine, almost have the bottom end buttoned up and need to install springs and guides on the heads. Along with ordering the rest of the parts I need bit by bit. Stay tuned. I can't wait to get the new blog up for it, I'll def have lots of pics to post as I already do now. Oh and I should be getting bags for it off of 98layin frame can't wait to get on the suspension once I get the garage done.

Well upon getting the 52' fastback finally, I rode in my friends dads 37 chevy with tripower and 5 speed, def fun. Also my friend is finally getting his 54' belair hardtop back on the road, its been 8 years I think. He's running a 235 with dual carbs, sounds awesome.

snagged a good bottom end of a 235 and a t-5 off them for dirt cheap. Also bumped into their friend that has some for 9" third members for cheap. Nice to finally have some friends with cars, other than them my bro in-law has a nice stock 53' belair and my other friend has a 54' that isn't on the road yet.

if anyone has any leads on a 53' studebaker, my friend bought one and is looking for another one. Hes got this thing looking mean and is a street stip with a 427 in it.
