Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside
are you going to put that in your truck or trailer
|
Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside
I am borrowing a trailer, so can't/don't want to, put any holes in the floor. Once I have the trailer at my house, I will drill some mounting holes in the front and rear cross supports that match up with the gaps in the floorboards, and clamp it to the trailer.

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside
My buddy won the contest I posted about back on post #274 and #299:metal:
Thanks to any of you who voted for him!! They said he had twice as many votes as the second place person! He goes in next weekend to get fitted, and pick out what he wants. Thanks again! |
Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside
The side of the road had signs EVERYWHERE stating, no large vehicles, narrow tunnels, etc. The one they got stuck in was 8'-4" if I remember right. The next one they would have gotten to was even narrower. SO very glad we got on the other side of them! LOL

Haven't been up to much lately on the truck. Life seems to keep getting in the way.
The gas tank in my truck was full of rust, and beat up pretty badly. I scored a fairly decent tank from board member Rbar. It was ugly colored, but in good shape. Attachment 995033 The yellowish paint was peeling in some places, so we kept peeling and scraping it off. Attachment 995034 Sanded it down all nice and pretty. Attachment 995035 Primered it. Attachment 995036 Painted it with Krylon Brushed Metallic Satin Nickel paint. Attachment 995037 |

Then we started sanding in the back half of the cab. I figured, once the parts and pieces get here for putting in the gas tank, I should have the back of the cab ready, then we wont have to take it out again.
Before. Attachment 995041 After sanding. Attachment 995042 Attachment 995043 After the 1st coat of primer. Attachment 995044 Attachment 995045 Looks MUCH better! |

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside
Thanks Captain and Pirate!
Today we should be able to get at least one coat of paint. It is supposed to be chilly today, so we'll have to see how well mother nature cooperates with my plans! |

Finally some more progress.
Been collecting some new toys. Attachment 1004844 Here is the tank all painted up, all new hardware and lines. Attachment 1004845 Tank from other side. Attachment 1004846 63Spud is the man! He had a '60 GMC that I was able to scab some parts off of. I got a new (to me) high transmission hump, just needs one hole patched, and two holes cut. Attachment 1004847 To replace mine. The drivers side where it connects to the floor is almost totally gone, and the passenger side is not too far behind. Attachment 1004848 |

The parts truck had the 305A V6 like mine. The radiator appears to be in better shape than mine. Is there an easy way to test for leaks at home, or do I need to take it in?
Attachment 1004858 The vinyl on my seat was trashed. Attachment 1004851 Several springs on the bottom of my seat were broken, too. Attachment 1004852 63Spud to the rescue again. The seat in the parts truck had newish vinyl. The springs in it's seat back were cut out. My son Chevyman10 and I took the vinyl off of the back of the parts trucks seat back, and put it on my seat's back. Attachment 1004853 Put it all together, and put it in the truck. Much better!! Attachment 1004854 We also pulled most of the wiring out of the parts truck, and have gone through and cleaned it up. It is in decent shape, so we will try to see if we can re-use it all. |
Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside
Ive used a couple pieces of inner tube to plug the inlet and outlet secured with hose clamps then pressured it up with a radiator/cap checker.
Like this: http://www.wrxtuners.com/forums/atta...suretester.jpg Its a good tool to have. |
