Started disassembling the front driveshaft. Nice couple of dents in that tubing ehh. Got the knuckles off and found some material for the center section. Going to weld it all up later this week. Also found some more hub caps my drink found em for 20 bucks. Have the matching front caps from a 4x4 just need to cut out a little more from the center of them. My locking hubs are slightly to big.

With a front shaft that short you can easily to front wheel burnouts!

Sounds so much better!!! Also figured better keep the theme of In line going. So I did the exhaust inline :)

Im proud to see that you are putting the cut outs to good use. I have a flowmaster #942451 that is in excellent shape. I was going to use it, but I changed my mind. Ill let you have it for $20 if your interested. its a delta flow 50 series. 2.25" offset IN, Center OUT.

Those cut outs sound nice. I'm looking for dual mufflers unfortunately thanks tho. Plus I have 21-23 inches of room to play with the mufflers. They have to narrow like a glass pack so that they don't hang below the frame. I hate seeing exhaust pipe hanging low.

Iv gone in the past but yeah man we should hit em up. We would be the biggest damn things there haha but doesn't bother me none. The show at stokes ranch was a good turnout. 300 somthing cars some really really cool cars. My tag when I rolled in was 284 or Somthing.

Tj. If my truck would go faster than 55 I would try and make it up to ya. I think until I re gear the truck she's staying in the state. :/ one of these days I want to bring her out to the big horn mountains up In Sheridan county Wyoming. Iv got a list of places I want to take the truck. After new gears. Cross over steering front disc conversion And a Real radio. That's more important hahah got to have some good tunes

Fit up my front driveshaft to the knuckles and ran two passes on. Em with the tig. Got a nice hot root pass and then did an easy weave pass over the first one. I know the knuckles are Ment to go inside the material but it's all I had to work with and I'm sure it's fine until I make a new one using a tractor slip sleeve and new knuckles. Also just purchased my 84 cubic feet argon cylinder for my tig setup at home. :) that should bring in some more Mulla.

Okay. So can anyone explain this. 1965 c20 sm420 drove fine but had a broken top. Where the shifters going In. Shifted ...but it was sloppy. OK now Here's where it's tricky. 1965 K20 sm420. Both tops of transmissions had same part numbers same throw. Just in better condition. Put the good lid on the c20 sm420 and the thing won't stay in second. Accelerating. Decelerating. Anything. And 4th gear wined like crazy. Horrible to drive. Just put the old top back on that the c20 trans came with. And boom shifts perfect. I get why it's shifting fine now. But why wouldn't it take the k20 top. Only thing I imagined is that it had a different wear pattern or the shift fork was bent because 4x4 are usually driven harder. Any thoughts? And I think it looks a little like an nv4500... it's my fake nv4500/sm420. but now she's a runner And fun to drive again. Also my front drivers side brake is not Working. Need to look into that next. Till then I just backed the adjuster all the way out.

You ought to drive my 65 hahah that old 4x4 really let's u know it's running straight cut gears. Got 2 big old gear boxes sitting below me.

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

Matt-glad you got it shifting again. does it still wine in 4th? some changes were made in 64-67 so a little different than mine being a 61, and mine doesn't have the 2 ribs as yours. just need to get mine out and re-bearing it.

mattbert56 05-20-2015 11:51 AM

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

4th whines a tiny bit. But I was driving it like how the picture looked. No cover nothing. So after the cover and the insulated floor mat I'm sure I wouldn't have ever noticed it. Plus the straight pipes make anything hard to hear. Even your own thoughts. Hey looks like I'm going to be up around your area again this weekend think you'll be around to swing by to say hey?

Re: 1965 C20 fleet side longbed DD low budget build.

Well took the apache emblems and cleaned em up. Stripped off all old paint and polished the chrome up. The. Re painted red along the bottom. Also took my front 4x4 hubcaps off a 70s ish truck and the holes for the locking hubs were just a little to small for my hubs. So I modified them a little bit and mounted them on the lathe to shave off about 1/2 inch opening them up to 4.5 inches. Then cleaned em up and de burred Them. I'll post pics when I can get them
