Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
Rusty76...thanks again, as I've stated Early on in the build that the stuff I would be posting was old news (to me ) This project has been off and on for several years now do to customer builds. I thought I had enough ammo to keep the thread going for awhile and it is getting thin...
I will be able to post for the rest of dash and garnish molding ideas but may slow down here fairly soon. I hope everyone has enjoyed the build so far and hope you keep checking in for updates... Mark... |

This was the layout I used for the small gauge...
After Dad,my friends and myself had tossed around a few ideas on the layout this is what was settled on... |

Pic #1 After taking A HUGE gasp of air I drilled the first hole lol....
Pic #2 the bezel set in place. At this point I set the column and wheel back in so I could check for placement (angle, depth etc.) |

Here I jumped ahead a bit by cutting the large holes out (did not have pics of this) and first look with them sitting in place..
Now I can start to move them around and play with the angle, depth etc till I like the way it looked from behind the wheel and from the passenger side. |

Looks nice and sharp, Mark!
I like the futuristic/industrial look it has to it! |
Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
Not a lot of 5 star build threads here, so I was like, what could a builder do to get 5 stars (cuz there are lots of great builds here)?????? Several hours later, I get it..... way way over the top !!!! The steering wheel is still killing me, the dash layout is awesome.... nice work.
thanks |
Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
Thank's again my friend....
It's taking shape finally and the ideas are finally coming to life, rather than just talking about them... Quote:

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
Thank's very much for checking in on the build and the compliments...As far as the inside of the truck I really wanted the interior to speak for itself...The WOW factor if you will!! Good or bad it's ok with me..The outside of the truck will be fairly untouched except for blending the repaired areas. This WILL be a daily driver when it's done (shop truck)

So....after playing around with moving the bezels in,out ,up,down etc I think I finally have them set.
I did put the column, wheel and seats back in for this step to make sure you can see all the gauges easily enough. |

One shot from the front through the wheel..
The gauges I'm using are (Speedhut Gauges) the speedo is GPS so no wires or units to add to the transmission!! It comes with a transponder for the GPS and you can set it on the dash etc. (a magnet on back) The gauges can be 100% customized to fit your taste. fully electronic and very compact design. |

Pic #1 showing bezel, gauge, bezel ring and gauge lock ring. (notice how compact the speedo is)
Pic #2 shows how the pieces will fit together. the bezel ring fits inside the bezel and is welded in place to set the depth for the gauge, then you simply slide gauge in and lock it down.. More on that later.... Mark... |
Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
That looks really good!

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
I like those gauges. You reckon they are pretty accurate? I'm sure they are, I just was curious. I've checked our speed against my GPS and usually they are within a mile or two of each other. I do like them.
|
Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
VERY accurate!!! this is the 3rd set I have used (it also measures 1/4 mile time,0-60,elevation,60 ft time and top speed...)

In this pic it is showing the adapter sleeve in place and tacked in. This will give a nice surface for the gauge ring to set on.

Here, you can see how you have your shelf so to speak for the gauge to rest on...
