Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
I was over at my sisters house today watching the Vikings game and her husband made bacon wrapped walleye with a bit of bbq sauce. That was tasty. He takes smaller pieces of walleye, wraps them 360 degrees with a piece of bacon, then adds bbq sauce. Then on the grill until the bacon is done. I think you could use cat fish or any light type fish like tilapia.

That 505 hatch is decent. We use it on breakfast burritos in a pinch. When we lived in Virginia I used to buy a couple of the frozen bricks of hatch and stash it in my checked bags on the plane. Even in the summer time it will stay frozen enough to be safe to eat. Hell I bet I could ship you some with dry ice... A New Mexican without green Chile is cause for great struggle! |

Work on my 67 has been temporarily suspended while I work on my late father in law's 1991 GMC. My sister in law wants the truck but she lives three hours to the north in Mountain Home. Decided to bring the truck home and look it over first. Glad I did, for the past 6-7 years this truck has only made the three mile trip to the gas station to fill gas cans and to the local hardware store.
On the 45 minute drive to my house I discovered the right front brake dragging very badly. Stopped to get some gas and the fuel filler hose has a split and is leaking. Upon inspection, I also found the front sway bar end links shot and the exhaust rotted right before and after the muffler. I'll let my brother in law worry with the exhaust when they get the truck but the other safety stuff I'm taking care of before it goes north. Replacing brake flex lines, calipers, pads, rotors. Changed oil and filter over the weekend as it looks like the oil was changed about 1000 miles ago - in 2018. The flex line to the gas tank actually looks like the biggest pain. Of course the truck has paint issues, no GM from 1991 doesn't. A few dents but no rust issues. It is going north with the understanding if they ever want to sell it I get first right of refusal. My wife decided to take my FIL's Impala when nobody else seemed to want it. Back when he was able, my FIL and I took this truck on a ton of fishing trips, etc. so it has value of the sentimental for the most part. |
Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Well Bill you pretty much know the history of the truck too. Little things add up to a lot of things over time but all can be fixed. Good on you for taking care of the safety items first for them.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Boog,
Man, you are correct. My FIL wasn't a big preventive maintenance person for some reason. His tractors would have never gotten greased or oil changed if not for me. This truck probably hasn't seen a grease gun in no telling how many years. I'm wire brushing the zerks out of the dirt for the most part. I am using this as a bit of a therapeutic exercise. As I am cleaning and repairing I keep thinking of my FIL and sometimes mentally talking to him. Mostly chuckling when making discoveries. He was big on having gloves and flashlights in your vehicle. I found three flashlights and four pairs of gloves in the truck. Along with jumper cables, ice scraper, hitch, packing blanket, rope, compass, tape measure, etc. I took one set of gloves and flashlight and stuck them back in one of the rear cubby holes. |
Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Yeah, that's about the first thing I do with a "new" vehicle: put in flashlight, tire gauge, gloves, ice scraper, rag, tow strap, plus at least some minimum tools like screwdrivers and crescent wrench.
Also I like to have a real 4-way lug wrench and a second jack and a few short pieces of 2x6. |
Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
My daughter carries a floor jack and pieces of wood in her jacked up Avalanche. I guess she has too. It's got a 7" super lift she says.

Ive been on a truck and truck parts selling frenzy. No more trading stuff, it always finds its way back, cash only. Working on building up my hobby account so I can work on this. Finally took it out of its long term resting place and knocked the bird poop and cobwebs off. They look so nice when they are wet =). Getting closer to bringing it home.
But ... there is always a but haha. When I was cleaning it a couple of guys pulled in and asked if it was for sale. I said maybe if the number is right, but I'm not naming that number you have to. I gave em my phone number, doubt Ill hear back. |

Anyway, today I went over and got a neighbor's tractor to rebuild the driveway easement through our land that goes to their son's place. It was all rutted and saucered out so I pulled the edges in to start to get it crowned. Had to quit when the sun got too low and I couldn't see looking right into it. I'll smooth it out more tomorrow but at least it's starting to resemble a road instead of a ditch. |

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Nice tile work! I haven't tiled anything since '79, when I built an addition on my previous home. None of it fell off in the '94 Northridge quake, but that may be because I used 3/4" plywood as a shear wall on the walls around the tub, below the Wonder Board. I had some left over from other work.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
I washed my 911. I was about half way through. Soap all over the car when mother nature came a calling. Bad timing. #2 was knocking at my back door. And knocking pretty hard.
So the car wash became a rush job. And I managed to finish it up and goose stepped as fast as I could back into the house. And my wife was off work today so we went to lunch and I had one of the hottest Italian sandwich's ever. Loaded with hot peppers. It fried my taste buds. But it was so good. Goose step again tomorrow I guess once that thing hits. :o |

I cut and hauled a couple pickup loads to the one of the woodpiles near our house today and yesterday. There's two more logs and then four or five logs that were the skids. One good sized log usually makes a pickup level load. That's about enough weight for a half ton pickup. Some of those blocks of wood are too heavy for me to pick up. I have to park with the tailgate over one of the skids and then roll the block up on the skid log and then tip/roll it up on the tailgate! I'm not sure how I will load the cut up blocks from a couple of the big skid logs? Probably use one block sitting flat as a "step" to roll/tip the blocks up on the tailgate, then I will have to leave that last block unless I get help to load it. I had told the guy that I didn't mind big logs but I forgot about lifting a green block 24" diameter and ~14" long. If I get another load like that I may have to get one of the cheap HF boom hoists that you bolt in the corner of a pickup. |

I wouldn't be working on it right now as it has been beautiful here weather wise. But I only have 4 weeks till I get my hand surgery. Then I cant do much for 4 or 5 weeks . It's amazing how much faster it's going with the new saw. |
