Re: 1971 K10 Stepside - Getting a Roller Roadworthy

My friend with the cab already sold the dash, so I decided to press ahead with repairing my existing dash. I cut out the center section and welded in the patch panel using a gauge bezel and glovebox hinge to set the alignment. I have not started repairing the rust yet.
I installed the driver side rocker panel. Ran out of daylight. Got seam sealer and a coat of primer on it. |

That's gonna be better than a new truck, Pat.

Nice work... |

You really get things done and quick too. Nice work thus far.:chevy:

Re: 1971 K10 Stepside - Getting a Roller Roadworthy
Thanks, guys. I copied the dash repair technique from Grumpy Old Man. He did the same thing where he left the lower structural support bar in place and made the cuts in places that are inconspicuous. It's gone smoothly so far. I still have lots of work to do on the dash though, and it's raining again.

It dried out enough today to get some paint on the rocker panel. I installed the door and fender a few hours later. Also took the driver side hub back off to install the correct inner seal.

Nice job knocking out those outer rockers. The dash replacement/repair looks difficult just based on doing it inside the cab and having the windshield in place.
Good progress. |

Patched the rust in the dash this evening. I have lots of grinding to do now.

Good save! Fortunately a lot of that will be totally concealed once reassembled.

Smoothed out the welds on the dash. Also filled several random holes that had been drilled in the floor and kickpanels. Also installed the driver side door seal.

It was raining this morning, and then it stopped. I took that opportunity to work on replacing the rear window. About the time I got the old window out, it started raining pretty good. I was committed at that point. Got soaked, but the window is in. So long to the "WILD" decals.

Seemed like a good idea when I had a big German Shepherd that was truck bed savvy. He could have been trained to hop inside at a couple of knocks on the back window. But no dog now. Won't fit a Suburban or a Blazer, and I like the leakproof stock [for 56 years] back window I have. |

I'm with you on the leaky sliders. Pretty sure the one on my truck caused all the rust I replaced on the bottom rail of the rear window. I'll be doing a single piece of glass like yourself.
Where did you get the glass and seal from? |

The rear window seal is Precision brand from gmcpauls.com |
