Looks like that whole grill has been reworked.
Those side filler panels are a good idea though.... I would do that.

Almost there...hoped for the Dyno run but its looking like next week.Valve covers mounted and the carb just in from the supplier and resting in place for a visual.

I was earlier thinking I should have held off on the Ultra Pro rockers, but they are in there now...no turning back and glad for it!

Now for the less painfull steps...., bolting on the future tinsel !:ito:

I love it! I think I'm gonna do a 383---would you give me your opinion on crank, pistons, etc.? I will use a 2000 350 truck block and stock vortec heads. I was looking in Jegs and there are a few ways to do the bottom end combo. Also, is there a particular harmonic balancer you like to take care of the external balance?

I used a 400sb crank as all aftermarket are made in China!Unless you want to spend big dollars on one, this is a good option. I'm not familiar with later sb engine's but unless your block is a 4 bolt main,I would not use is it.

The rest of my advise is shop for USA made products!

Go back a few pages in my build...I have posted all parts I have used to build mine.:ito:

I'm really glad I asked now! I probably would have missed that "made in China" detail. I'll go back and find your list. Thx

Thanks bud,It's been a long haul getting this built.I started this time last year banking on it being done alot sooner, guess I didn't account for the cost it takes to do this these days.

24 years ago was the last v8 built and uh well.......it was much cheaper back then.

I guess this means I'm in denial ?

Tonight the front of the truck comes apart.....again.I'm not wanting to do the engine and trans install with it togather so here I go......., again.:ben:

The inner fenders, hood and rad support are off to the paint shop in the next couple weeks, base, three coats of clear, wet sand and buff.

So the timing is good.Going............, outside...........,to .......,the....,shop..........., now.:ito:

The front of the body was out on one side and I didnt notice it until I bolted the bumper on weeks back.Fortunately is was a simple shim adjustment at the fenders to cab and rad mount bolts, and Im now within an 1/8":metal: A guy needs a lucky break once and a while....I guess tonight was one of them!

There were a few more holes drilled in the rad support for future wire routing some tweaking on the rad mounting so the next big step will be next week.(I hope)

Thanks to a good buddy,I had help.I dont know I would have followed through with the tear down tonight if he hadnt been here.

Its 12:20am the front end is off.The truck goes back to the body shop for final firewall paint and clear.

Goodnight.:ito:

Slept in until 9:20am this morn ! Guess I was a little tired from last night's tear down.

I went to a friends wrecking yard today and found a column bracket and clamp to use as a temp for the end of the week move to the booth.

After that,I stopped in at the machine shop and a big surprise was waiting there for me.I had no idea before showing up that my 383 was waiting on the dyno for me !

I couldn't include my video footage as my file was to big to send,so Ill post the one taken by the shop here soon.:ito:

Hey Brian,I do have my own footage but got a little excited and swore so I don't think it would meet the rules here on the site.
I'm still waiting for footage from the shop.

I can tell you 428 ft lbs of torque and just under 400hp.redline approx 5800rpm:ito:

Just got the truck back from the painter this morning.Firewall redo and steering column sprayed in base clear...looking good.

I also had the wood brace/box supports tacked to their underside brackets ,now it should be alot easier to r&r the box next time around.

At one point with wood in and box squared,I drilled reference points with a 1/8 bit and dropped locating pins through the holes.

If you have to go on and off with the box as many times as I did....,you will definately want to take the time to do this. All three brace's that rest on the frame are all done this way,I have circled in red to highlight them.:ito:

I finally mounted the column in place for the last time..,and it felt good ! A local Rod builder up here supplied me with some custom 6061 finishing washers that I used at the mount and will probably use on the hood hinge's and other areas I can think of later on.

The booster went on just after. It looks good with Cap's booster bracket and the aluminum top cap I made to finish it all.

I also started on my battery tray tonight,I'm loosing the factory hold down and making a block that secures the battery at the bottom.

Re: Project truck dream 65"

Yesterday I had a day off from work,so I took advantage of it and brought the remainder of the engine bay parts being the hood, inner fenders etc. to the paint shop.

It's exciting to be moving ahead at this rate now ! In all fairness, alot of time and energy went into preparing for it.The last thing I wanted to do was drill into fresh paint for something I overlooked.

The latest job completed was drilling a hole at the rear passenger side of the hood for a 3'8 I.D stainless door loom.I tossed the idea of the contacts to eliminate the singnal wires, but anything I found just wasn't small and durable.enough in my opinion.

By the end of the month I will have everything back from the paint shop,I was clear to my painter there was no rush,so if anything might have been missed,I will have bought some time here.:ito:

I went to a battery shop today and found a dead donor for my mod. It's a newer Chevy version so it will be easy to get when it comes time to bolt the new one in.

I made the rear mounts out of some scrap laying around the shop.I'm always glad I kept the small stuff, beats going to the local steel yard and wasting time.

The plastic block,Chevy as well.Had to modify it front and back to make it fit, now holds the battery tightly in place.:ito:

Going to the wrecking yard today to find Chevy 3157 pigtails for the front signal/marker lights.I have a loaner out of a Chrysler for a guide to compare with when the search starts.

I came up with a cool idea that will alllow my marker lights to be lit up white and signals to flash amber. The style bulb I will be using is silver ,so it should be hidden well behind the lens.

I'm running the clear lens and do not want to see the orange bulb in the background of the housing,so hopefully this works out.:ito:

Here we go,late model Chevy Blazer signal pigtails. They fit as tight and maybe just a little better than the original socket.

I now have the updated 3157 bulb, not to mention a lower profile socket that will make it easier route and hide the wires.:ito:

Now I'm looking for the mounts, guess I had hoped they would come with but did not.

Anyone know where I might find these ? Hope to go with originals.:ito:

Spent the weekend in Vancouver, took my friend Chopper with me.Had a great visit with some friends and family and of course "Rocky the Lab"....,Choppers buddy.

While I was there,I picked up a trunk load of parts for the truck.Air cleaner, serp pulleys, door looms, headlights, kick down and throttle cables, the list goes on.

So today I installed my push button starter switch,It fit tight and covered the OEM hole completely. It blends in nicely with the original buttons and lighter.

No more worries of scratches in the dash from keys !:ito:
