Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

A very busy weekend for Martin and I on our respective properties.

Thought I would post up some of the stuff on here as we did it all together.

Today was boot fair as always, then off to Hamstreet with Nicola and Martin on the bikes to a bike show and auto jumble. This is where Martin gets his stainless fittings and other custom bits for the truck. Followed by a run up the M20 to Wateringbury near Maidstone for another car and bike show, which was more of an excuse for a huge party and tons of Harley's together together.
Home by about 4pm and stopped bike and truck about.

Martins Eddie Lawson Replica 1100cc Kawasaki behind Nicola who was being a clown all day, when we were filling up this morning.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...pskw49f2m3.jpg

Nicola snapped this pic of me headed to the Swapmeet...... She said I looked like a man on a mission. Wearing Clem's T-Shirt from last years party.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psvbkxc7jv.jpg

Our bargain of the day........ Been looking for something heavy duty like these for some time, found them on a traders stand at the bike swap meet.

Managed to get a deal on 10 of them, 4 for my truck and 6 for Martins long bed to tie his V-Rod down once the truck is completed. Paid £3.20 each in stead of £4.00 each.

Once countersunk and bolted down with countersunk head bolts in the rear bed, it will make the truck even more useful.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psxdvrvi8g.jpg

I suspect Martin will be along soon to report on all his chassis work he got done over the weekend.

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

As Rian said we had a busy weekend.
Well mine started on Saturday morning ,luckily Amanda had to work on Saturday ,which left me time to play with the truck in the morning . So I made a start removing all the brake lines and then cleaning up the chassis for paint . As I cleaned it up I found this number under all the paint .

This number matches the log book ( this is our document of ownership)

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psylnth3nk.jpg

This is stamped in two places

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psvnujq6x3.jpg

But there is also this one stamped as well any ideas ?

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pso74la7qa.jpg

Well I did manage to get the front half stripped
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psyclcyejf.jpg

When Amanda came home from work at lunchtime ,I then stopped and got changed and ready to go out . Then Sunday I went with Rian and Nicola to the shows .
When I returned home I thought it would be a good idea to get my petrol tank from the garage and start making the fitting brackets . I wanted to get it fitted and installed drilling all the holes then remove it before painting the chassis

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps09a1c9a8.jpg

I need to drill the holes in the Side of the fitting on the tank and then in the chassis . I then plan on making two strips of steel one with studs and one with holes and sandwich the tank between them and the chassis . Pictures to follow next weekend .

Tommorrow I have to go on another training course, this time it's only in the UK but still a 5hr drive , so another night in a hotel this time with my work colleague Duncan . So no truck time till at least Wednesday .

Every day is a school day......

Today we learned a load of stuff, but Darren and the other guys all learned from us.

Love this hobby.

Well, another Saturday gone, but a good day it was.

Martin and I jumped on our bikes, thankfully as the A2M2 was backed up from J5 to J3 and we ended up using the old A2 to get to Darren's place on the Isle of Sheppey.

Martin wanted to go discuss V8 engines and gearboxes with Darren, and I always find his and all his gang who hang around at his workshop and factory hugely relaxing. Real people, no pretence or Horse Poop. Just Horse Power.

Darren's friend Stuart was servicing and fine tuning his 1953 V8 Ford Popular. They had all been to Europe for a couple of weeks, including a hot rod show in France, where the laws are incredibly strict on rods.

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psewj2h7tm.jpg

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/m...psmyy3xzyv.jpg

Later he left for normal family duties. He has owned this car for 18 years

Also got to meet Darren's latest acquisition....... A '32 Ford Coupè with V8 motorvation.

As purchased.

Well as I said I my last entry , I was going on a training course and after looking on the map it seemed I was going to drive past Andys house (uber cool ) on this thread . So a quick call to Andy to check he would be at home I arranged to call in on the way past , and take a look at his truck. After four hours it was a nice break to stop at Andys with Duncan the other fitter from work .
We saw this on the way up to Andys

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pszytc5mqo.jpg

Andys truck on his drive

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psyxohteqb.jpg

It's good to call in to see other truck guys and take a look at what they are doing

Well back to my truck after sanding down the front section I thought I better test fit the power steering box . I thought this would be a good idea as I didn't want to drill the chassis after I had painted it

Steering box all test fitted to chassis

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psultbmv7o.jpg

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psyr0bkqvk.jpg

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psf3fvttrz.jpg

Once I got this all drilled and fitted , it was time to meet up with Rian . We had arranged to go and see Darren's toys and have a chat

So Sunday morning I got up early and drove up to my mums to visit her for a few hours and do a few jobs . When I got home in the afternoon I thought I would go into the carport and mock up the petrol tank (read as Gas Tank ) I wanted to make it removable from underneath so I made a couple of brackets for the job I welded the top fixing bolts to a strip of steel so they wouldn't turn when removed .

The tank fixings I will cut down the bolts later just in case I need to space it down later to give more clearance above

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pshuxssgdy.jpg

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psmzfxviny.jpg

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psdsdqtcbe.jpg

Well that's all for this weekend next weekend I hope to get the rest of the chassis sanded after collecting so new flap wheels in the week from Rian . He collected some for me at a boot fair on Sunday

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

On Friday while doing a job at a Kia dealers ,I saw this in the scrap metal bin . I asked the sales man I was doing a job for if it was ok to have it . I explained I wanted it for my Chevy truck I was restoring . His reply was take what ever you want . So it went straight in the back of the van but not till after I had taken a picture and sent it across to Rian . We often send over pictures of things we score for nothing .

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pscuac2tby.jpg

As Rian said we went on our bikes to Maidstone to pay for our car hire . Here are a couple of pictures we took, the one of the car on the wall was taken in a new insurance brokers, that has just opened . The other one Rian took of our bikes . It's the quickest way to get into town and the added bonus of free parking .

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

Well this afternoon I went over to Dell's house to collect a 350 SBC . Well I say collect really it was to remove it from the chassis . The problem was Dell had been away for the weekend on a stag night , and a guy had called him to say he wanted to collect the chassis .
So I got there at 3pm which had given him enough time to get home from his weekend away. The guy collecting the chassis was due between 4 and 5pm .

This is a video that we took of the engine the day we removed the cab .

https://youtu.be/oTq_YsPVyvA

This is myself and Dell removing the engine and gearbox

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psjgoukso5.jpg

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psow7cord4.jpg

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ps8uqkokau.jpg

Note Dell's long stepper in the background

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pscw6zeg3l.jpg

All out and loaded into the trailer

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psxmfan8qs.jpg

After we removed the engine the guy arrived to collect the chassis so onto the trailer it went

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pshhvyoi8i.jpg

He has a 59 Chevy body with no chassis so another part of this truck will live again

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pshfq6srbm.jpg

Once he left I gave Dell a hand to strip down the rear fleet side box as that's all that is left
Then home to unload it all

Well the engine is in the carport . The trouble is that the chassis is in the way of putting it in the garage so I had to put it the other end were I keep my bikes it's tight but all fitted .

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psxzdfojgz.jpg

When I collected the engine Dell also let me have the rest of the exhaust for helping him strip the rest of the truck and helping load the chassis . It will need the flow master boxes re welding as they have been done badly .

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pscqrkovzx.jpg

It's tight but all back in the carport

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psc1h5nxlr.jpg

Well done Martin !!!!

This is what you needed in the first place.

Glad it all went well and that Mrs Del kept you in tea and took the photos.

Really pleased you have the engine you always needed now and that it is truly complete.

Guess we will need another short session getting the 305/7 and box out the garage so it can be sold complete, and the 350 into the garage before the chassis goes any further.

Yes that would be great I need to put the 350 in the garage and pull the 307 and the auto th350 box to the front of the carport and advertise it for sale . At that point I might as well flip the chassis over at the same time to make sanding it down easier

Re: Martin's mi-STRESS, 1965 Long Fleetside C10 "Rebuild in ENGLAND"

Well after collecting the engine on Sunday and helping Dell strip the bits off the chassis for the guy to collect . I stayed and helped him strip the bed . Well on Monday I got a text from Dell to say he had gone and collected another truck from the port that had arrived from over the pond .

This is the truck it's a 6 cylinder 3 speed stick shift

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pswfrsyk6s.jpg

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psijds7avc.jpg

He has a few little jobs to do on it then it will be up for sale . If any of the guys in the UK are interested I can pass you on Dell's number

This is the good bit , the reason he phoned me was to tell me ,I could have the bed sides and the panel behind the cab . He wants too keep the tailgate to make one of these

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psxxnbddmg.jpg

So when I got in from work it was straight over to his to collect the panels . They are a bit dented and the lamp panel on one is damaged. But let's be honest they were FREE

Loaded in the back of the car they did stick out a little but it's only 40 miles back and practically all motorway.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psljmwj9q0.jpg

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...pseehv7e3h.jpg

These are the panels home safe and sound

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...psmgqbahq6.jpg

The funniest thing was as I pulled up outside Dell's house his wife said I am so pleased to see you . Dell replied you getter a better welcome than I do . I said that's because I come and take stuff away . so I loaded the car had a look around the new truck . After we had a chat I left a happy man and his wife Cat was happy as more parts cleared from outside the house

I will weld up the saddle tank door as I already have a tank in the bed . The rear lamp section of the passengers side is all torn up . It would be a shame to cut this off my bedside so I might look for that section when I am in the states .

Cab trolley........??

On the way home from work tonight I swung by my almost local treasure island.

The guys there often call me when they have something interesting they think I may be interested in.

This week it was a mobility scooter chassis, as I had asked them to look out for one of them that I could use for the wheelbarrow based soapbox kart I wanted to build.

While there, I always get to walk around the yard with the boys.

Today I saw an old trolley with decent wheels on and then Glen cut off the wheels for me, for Martin to improve his cab trolley, as his wheels have been self destructing.

The price....??

A bottle of coffee and two kilo's of sugar.

Bargain I think.
