Backing roof top air units to a crane .
Attachment 1231636... 35 feet off of the back of an 80 foot extendable . Fun Times , Oh and wide too |
Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
That's big!
|
Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
Always got impressed by Extendable Trailers. One company nearby me had them years ago and would carry some frightening loads.
Some may remember me mentioning "Tail Swing". That load will sure take some extra effort, especially in any tight turns. Interesting pictures. Bill |
Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
Always like when the load has a king pin bolted to it. And the trailer is 20'+ behind the tractor.
|
Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
Long WB tractors might be the hot setup for out west where roads, freight docks are more recent and built to accomodate high loads and wider loads .
But try to back one up and put your trailer in the dock . Even in the early '70s we had to call the cops on private property enclosed delivery docks when tempers flared . Probably some of the eastern terminals were built for 30' trailers ................or maybe just horses and wagon. That's where private draymen and switchers got their business start. |

Spotted this while driving rural Pennsylvania.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
It looks like some thief wanted to have the brass and shiney stuff, but with that fire body out of the way, you'd have a neat old Cannonball style truck. Chances are it has a 503" gas engine and 5 speed OD transmission, and was probably supplied through Civil Defense. I had a 1954 model 630 that was supplied to Highland Heights, Ohio through Civil Defense. The retired chief told me it cost the village $15,000 of which half was paid by the volunteer department at that time . It had the statement of origin on it when I bought it, no title because nobody plated it . Statement of origin showed Civil Defense, Columbus Ohio, Village of Highland Heights, then Ohio Rubber owned it before me , they used it for plant fire protection as they had their own fire brigade.
But this old jewel needs to be rescued ! Where in PA. is it ? |
Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
About 4 years ago ... it was sitting outside an RV/travel trailer dealership just south west of Gettysburg. Would love to see it restored. Thanks for the insight. :chevy:

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
Would make a great Rollback.
Especially hauling a Restored AD truck to the shows. Bill |
Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
I'm seeing a lot of sweet old iron in here but there's a serious lack of Pacifics.
Made right here in North Vancouver until the early 90's http://www.coastpowertrain.com/graphics/c_pt_01.jpg http://www.pacifictruckclub.org/Photos/tcp151.jpg http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pi.../oct23/010.jpg http://vancouverislandimages.com/car...ging-truck.jpg http://members.shaw.ca/Luke76/Photos...orth%206x6.jpg |

Don't forget the Hayes trucks that started it all on '22..."The Bear". In '69 they sold out to Mack who sold to KW in '75 who shut them down. Pacific was started by former Hayes employees in '47 and sold to International in '70. They kept it till '81 when they sold it to a company in Singapore. Last Pacific was built in '91. What was left of the business (parts, etc) was sold to CCC out of Oklahoma who sold the Pacific name in '02 to an outfit back in British Columbia

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
That is really one load of logs. The average person out there most likely does not know just how heavy a log is, especially green.
That truck must have one heck of a set of springs. It hardly looks loaded. |
Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
Gotta love a truck with final drives!

That thing in front of the bumper is for attaching it to the rear of another truck to make a 'road train' There's some cool photos on the intraweb of 4-500ton loads on the move with 3 or 4 trucks that size in series. |

Here are a couple trucks that sit about 20 miles from my house. The first one (the white one) is their tow truck. The International is pretty chopped up. The badge on the side of the international says "200" so I'm guessing it's an R200 cab and that's where the wheels, tires, suspension, and rear end came from. It has some sort of V8 in it but I'm unsure what kind as I'm unfamiliar with IH motors (if that's what it is).
|
Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
Tim------Thanks for the links to Pacific history. One very heavy duty truck.
Studda------IH rat rod engine is probably a 549 cube, although they also had a 477. |

Here are a couple custom jobs. Definitely weird. The two are combinations of cab overs with conventional hoods. The other is beyond me.

Re: Trucks Are Beautiful
All 3 are actually.
The truck in the top picture is determined not to run out of fuel... |
