I would be ashamed for that to sit out in your driveway. You better let me come get and park it in mine:lol: That thing is killer and one of the best mods that anyone has done on this board. You are the man:metal:

Awesome
Iam new to the forum butwould like to say your burb / tahoe is very cool. I actually saw it at one of the beaches cruise ins. My son and I thought it was so cool. I have to ask, it looks as if you do a lot if not most of this work in your attached garage at your home?? If that is the case that is something. I can barely spray simple green or armor all without my wife going nuts that she can smell it through out the house. Tell me are you a bodyman by trade? Sorry if Iam asking questions that may be answered in your thread but I haven't had time to go through the whole thing yet. Well your work is amazing and the burb is so coool!!! Thanks for your time. :c2:

Yes I do work in my tiny garage (for now), and I have a girlfriend who respects my passions. She helped me build the fiberglass kickpanels and we both suffered from the smell together  I'm not a bodyman by trade, just by hobby. I'm an engineer in the semiconductor industry. I'll definitely be hitting more PIR events next season :metal: |

Nathan hasn't had any influence on me though. I wasn't actually thinking of those as adapters but I guess because of the way the attach, they are. Where are you going to get your spacers? I know I'm gioing to need some also to get the look that I want. |

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
This is great Mike! You do great work. I am going to have to stay tuned. Hay it's Friday. What are you going to get into on the Tahoe this weekend? Oh, the wheels look great! That is a nice wheel / tire size combo. I agree with haveing some side wall on there. Heck it will help save your wheel from a pot hole. Being an ex-tire monkey, i saw that alot. Keep up the good work and keep us posted.

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Do you have room back there for a 73-91 Blazer tank? They are the same width side-to-side as the 67-72 tanks, but are longer front-to-back. They are square 27x27 or something close to that, but only ~10" deep compared to ~15 for the 67-72 tank. This would give you a lot more ground clearance for your tank and up the capacity to 25gal.The LWB trucks have no problem, but the shorties have to move the rear frame crossmember- dunno what the rear of a 'burb frame looks like.

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
This is the same tank that I have in Low Buck and teh best part is they are EFI ready. I first installed it with a carb motor and just pulled off the intank pump and added a hose for pick up. Then when the LT1 went in I pulled the hose and put in a stock 92 vett EFI pump and away it went. Plus when done right they look stock from the back and still work with big drops. Only down side is they come as a pass side filler (but that can be changed!).

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Mike,
That is the best look for that body style Ive ever seen.It looks like it was made that way,and a front cover for Classic Truck mag.Where do I find the body drop site you were talking about. The wheels made all the diff. in your sub.I hope mine will look half as good as yours does. Thanks for the pics. I cant wait to get mine going. Are you using a tig welder there seems to be very little heat damage on your welds.I have a mig but think it makes alot of extra body work. What model do you have and what is the cost on one if you dont mind me asking. Thanks Again for letting us see what prog. on you project. Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
I'm in Corvallis. I had about 15" of lift on it but i didn't want to ruin the body taking it off road. so I figure low and slow will be nice.
I just got the 81 front suspension all apart to mock up the crossmember, I'm gonna chop 1.5" out of it before it goes in. the rear i know ill be a linked set up of some sort. I'v been to a couple shows up north but only as a tag-a-long in my co workers 69 c10 and his 72k5 so I need to get mine done. Also we do the A&W cruises in Stayton on every other wednesday i think they run may to oct. |

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
You're wlecome Gringo ;)
No pics but a little more progress. I replaced all the rear wheel studs with longer ones. Ended up going with NAPA 641-3112. They require the holes to be drilled out just a little bit to 9/16" because of a slightly larger knurl. I also painted my calipers and drums with black POR-15 and put the rear 5/16" spacers on. When I convert to rear discs I'll go to a 1/4" spacer because the rotors are about 1/16" thicker than the drums at the hub/studs. Won't be doing much on this over the T-Day weekend, but my next project will be the tubs which includes the 68 front clip :metal: If we have a sunny day over the next few days I might find time to take some shots for the the Nov TOTM contest :) |
Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Hey Friz, do you still have the 20 inches you cut out? My wife is talking about having another kid and that means my Blazer needs to be bigger.:)
Seriously though, good job on the Tahoe/Suburban(Taburban?), I've enjoyed this thread along with other stuff you have in the FAQ. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see this thing driving around. |
Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Yes I do, let's do it

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
I like the work that you've done. Looks good. I was wondering where you got your roof rack.
|
Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Roof rack was a dealer install that I have shortened 10" You see them on ebay every now and then. They also came on the same era Blazers and even non-GM cars/trucks.

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*

Frizzle, can you send me some measurements for where your rear brackets are screwed on? I liked the placement of yours better than mine, so I welded my original holes up, :D. R |

I got the other one off. These things are not as easy to remove as you might expect. I chose to leave the lower/outer extremities of the tubs at the fender lip instead of wrestling with all those spot welds. This way I can just mate the new inners up to the remaining OG sections. Here's what I'm talking about: Cut at upper radius of tub: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1197087585 And cut down closer to fender arch with lower section remaining: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1197087585 This shows how much the OG inners arch inward and narrow at the top. I'll gain over 2" of usable space for tire width at extreme drop (not to mention more drop ;)): http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1197087585 Here's the DS removed and aired out with bags on internal bump-stops. You can see the line marked on/near the "4th door" where I will clearance back 1": http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1197087585 |

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Thanks guys! You really help keep the motivation going. I'll be doing more with the tubs tomorrow.
|
Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Mike, Do you have a problem putting gas in that thing? It looks like the gas fill tube runs uphill. Does this cause a hydro lock situation?
