Skymangs - Danchuck has it new.
http://www.danchuk.com/ItemForm.aspx?Item=11319 Old Gold Salvage in Old Town, FL may have one. We spent a great vacation day there this last March. http://www.oldgoldcars.com/ Your truck is looking great! |
Re: 49 ls1
Thanks all.
Advanced Design; I've seen the Danchuck listing. I just hate to spend 300 bones for all new chrome, when I only need 2 pieces. Besides, if I got them new, they'd be the only new chrome on the whole truck, and would look out of place. I will definitely call Old Gold though! I seem to be having a trans problem now. It doesn't want to go into gear... any of them. Trying to double-check all my wiring, and get some technical knowledge on the 4L80 as we speak. From what I've found online, it should go into 3rd and reverse, even if all the wires are disconnected (limp mode). I've also found sites that say that isn't so. I guess next I'll see if it has any line pressure. And of course, the guy who rebuilt it now has a disconnected number. figures. |

Not much for new pics. Wiring is pretty much complete. Working through this trans issue. Had to hurry up and install the OBD2 port so my buddy can swing by with his scan tool tomorrow. Here's the new peepers

Re: 49 ls1
Hope everything gets sorted out with your trans.

Re: 49 ls1
Thanks, me too!

Got the '49 out for a little sun today. Need to get her cleaned up for Saturday's show!
Oh, and it looks like I'll need to be looking for another 4L80E. Pump's not building enough pressure. Reverse is iffy for sure. |
Re: 49 ls1
Truck looks great skymangs! Bummer about the transmission. What year vehicle is the transmission from by the way?
|
Re: 49 ls1
I love the headlight buckets. What are they from?
|
Re: 49 ls1
I love that seat!
|
Re: 49 ls1
Thanks, kind of bummed out about the trans as well. I'll be pulling this one and dropping in another one before All Truck Nats I think.
The trans is a '99 4L80E out of a 2500 service truck. Headlight bezels are '55 Studebaker, kind of hard to find since they don't reproduce them, but that was sort of the point I guess... :) |
Re: 49 ls1
The stance is killer!! :metal::metal::metal::metal:
|
Re: 49 ls1
LoL... any lower it'd be sub-terrain! Once I get the plow (I mean bumper) on the front it will look even lower. maybe it'll win the "best of what's left" trophy this weekend... BAWHAHAHAHAHA!
|
Re: 49 ls1
What did your seat come out of??
|
Re: 49 ls1
Dat Exhaust.
|
Re: 49 ls1
Truck looks great!
|
Re: 49 ls1
Thanks all. Just love the look of this one. Seat is from '59 Oldsmobile I think. Not 100% sure, it was in another project I picked up. I had it upholstered in a slightly modified '57 Studebaker Golden Hawk pattern. If you look closely, every single seam is done in double baseball stitching:metal:

Bad Transmission + Saturday Show = Big Drama.
Hand me the popcorn. |

Car trailer = no drama!:smoke:

I purchased the RH and both heat shields, got the LH off ebay for double the cost of what GM was selling it for,it still looked like a decent deal,as I like the looks of them compared to a header.AND,they probably aint getting any cheaper. There are probably some other tight fitting GM manifolds still available that came on other vehicles,if you do your homework, and I am sure there are some 12600526 sitting on a shelf somewhere that nobody has discovered yet. Just figured I'd let you guys know this. |
Re: 49 ls1
congrats sarge, almost done. you'll come across another trans.

Re: 49 ls1
Chris,Did you ever do a final install of the underfloor master cylinder?
|
Re: 49 ls1
Yup. I ditched the inline 2 psi residual pressure check valves, and went with a Speedway master cylinder with no internal check valves. Works great now. New trans went in on Thursday, just in time for All Truck Nats on Friday. Truck was a smashing success, and got it's share of attention all weekend!
|
Re: 49 ls1
Glad I got to look it over. Great truck, and good to see you, Chris!

I guess the only sad part about your truck being so low and awesome is that you will never be able to photograph that really low master cylinder and linkage setup :( |
Re: 49 ls1
Saw both trucks in your booth....could not stop looking! Gave me lots of ideas for my '48. Great work!!!!
|
Re: 49 ls1
Thanks Low Elco... Good seeing you there as well.
CharlieSheen; not really driving it yet. Runs and drives, but needs some things before I'll start hitting the highway. I'll get under it next time I have it up in the air and take a pic or two. there are lots of pics on how I did the bracketry, early on in this thread though. Rustytruck50; Thank you, I had a blast at the show, I love building things a "little different" than everyone else. |
Re: 49 ls1
Sarge it must feel great to have it under its own power.Put that tractor back in the barn!
I hope your booth at the show is bringing home some JOB$! |
Re: 49 ls1
Yessir, great show. Booked all the way out to June 2015!

sorry to go way back n bring this up i read the article understand 4 link lot better now but for yours did you use the stock crossmember to get your 45% angle for upper bar links and made a custom crossmember to mount to or how'd you get the angle for your upper bar links? again sorry bringing up this im going to be bagging my 49 very soon here |
Re: 49 ls1

I made my own cross-member to support my links. Where did %45 come from? When you design you links, the theoretical line should intersect just behind the transmission (top view), and these same lines should be within 50-80% of your COG (vertical center of the bell housing. Your instant center is the point at which the theoretical lines of you your upper and lower links would intersect.
|
Re: 49 ls1
Okkkkk gotcha gotcha so with in that 50-80% you still want upper links to be around a 40 degree? And the instant line you say where lowers n uppers should meet. I always thought the lowers just went straight along the frame just aslong as they are parallel to ground when setting ride height. Same with uppers be parallel to ground. But all n all got to make a sketch n get cog before knowing 4 link length or anything really.

Defiantly haha thank you for help

Re: 49 ls1
skymangs, sick truck, I'm working on a similar project and had a few questions for you.
Where and how did you place the TCC on your brake pedal assembly? Did you mount the TAC with the ECM? How do you like the Hot Rod Flatz paint? Easy to shoot? Easy to maintain? |
Re: 49 ls1
Henny... The TCC goes to the output side of your brake light switch. Mine us on the firewall (original style)
My truck is cable throttle, but when I do drive by wires, I mount the TAC module behind the dash My truck isn't hot rod Flatz, but I've used it before, and I like it. very reasonable cost, and not bad to spray either. |
Re: 49 ls1
Thanks Skymangs! Happy Thanksgiving
|
