Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
So now that UPS found my house I can have fun again. I finished and installed the forward 4 link bars and now I am working on the toe in/out bars. Right now at ride height the tire is parallel with the center of the chassis and at full dump (tire up) it is out of parallel 3/4" toed in and 1/4" at full lift. So with it being uneven it gives me a place to start mapping out the arc of motion to figure out whats next. In the morning I will make a new temp mounting plate with several adjustment holes so I can go side to side and up and down as well am setting the plate farther forward then needed so I can shim the link out for added adjustment. Then once I get the right spot to keep the tire parallel during the 10" of travel I will make a new plate with mounting holes for both bars and finish up the final bars and move on to the air bag mounts.
Kevin LFD Inc. This is just an over all view of the rear set up with approximate location of the passenger side bar on the rear link. Shot of the tire centered at full dump with a 31" mock up tire. This will set the frame about 1" off the ground to match the C4 Drop Member that Nate is building for me. Next 2 shots just show how much floor space is saved by using an IRS for this kind of set up. Both shots are at full dump and you can see the axle is above the top of frame. If this was a solid axle the frame notch would need to be much larder and the center diff would be about 8" higher. I think over all my floor is about 8-10" lower than a similarly slammed Burb. Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
Man, that thing is going to be so sick...
People that haven't seen the build will look at it and notice things one by one until their head spins...this will be an awesome piece to showcase your business when completed... It honestly already showcases your business to me...if I can ever afford to pay to get a burb done...I know where I am sending it... |
Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
Very cool Kevin. A lot of thought has went into this.

Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
Is the portion of the spindle that the toe in/out link is connected to going to be in the wheel well, or is the floor going to have to be modified to clear that?
Looks great BTW. |
Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
Quote:
It hit's right in the center of both so the floor will get a small step right over this area and that will cause for a small notch in the wheel well. The step will come right up to the bottom of the rear tumble seats and the side of the wheel wells will touch the seat sides. Not much spare room in this set up but hey if it clears by a 1/64" it still clears right. Kevin LFD Inc. |
Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
After about 20 different bracket locations and 3 tie rod lengths I have the toe in down to about 1/4" during full lift and Zero at ride and full dump so I am getting close:metal: I will post some pics later if I get it done before I have to leave for the Doc's:waah:

Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
I thought the front 4 link was a tough task to figure out, well it was but this was no simple task to say the least. I still have a very small amount of fine tuning before I make the final mounts and links but I am so close. Then it will be on to the bag mounts once my rear rims show up. I have almost no room left and I think I will be putting a slight curved notch (about 1") into the sides of the frame to make it all work. But that is for another day:lol:
What made this part tough is the Axel half shaft has its own arc of travel and the lower link just under the half shaft has its own as well as it not being parallel with the half shaft front to back. Then the front 4 link bars put their own curve to things. The stock toe in bars were much longer then what I ended up with but the stock set up was only set up for about 3" of travel and I am doing over 10". So I started with the stock length on the bars and I just moved them down an equal amount that I lowered the end link at the hub thinking this would be close. Well it was not even close to working so the fun began and this is what I ended up with. Right now it would be just fine as is but I think I can get it just a bit closer. I have 1/4" of toe in movement right now but I want to try and keep it under 1/8" even know the 1/4" it has only comes into play when the Tahoe is lifted over 7" and below that it is well with in tolerance. Kevin LFD Inc. I will do some kind of mount for the two link ends that looks good and be functional for my exhaust hangers to mount to it as well. I figure this area under the diff should be a good place for the 3" dual exhaust to run to the rear. I think the exhaust will be the simplest part of this build since my drive train does not move around like a solid Axel set up does. Lookin good Kevin! Those tig welds are lookin nice too. Let me know when you have some time and an idea of how much to install my C notches and rack and pinion notches. Are you going to the goodguys show? We are going tommorrow morning taking my 62 to try and sell. I hope that airbag will help. Are you planning on getting that size bag now? Talk to you later. Keep up on the progress. I'll try to stop by and see it in person.

On a good note I spoke with Nate this morning for about 30min and he agreed that I can mount the RE-8's at a 2:1 ratio on my rear links since they are #2600 + lbs bags so the bags are a total of #5200lbs worth of lift but at a 2:1 ratio they drop down to 2600lbs total and that is still plenty for my Tahoe. This will also let me mount the bags centered on the links with about 1/4" of room to clear the tires. If they had to go to a 1.5:1 set up then I would need to mount them off center of the bar to clear the 305's. I will start playing with mounts this next week but I will only have until Friday to play with it because I have XXl's truck coming in for a DM install starting Saturday. Kevin LFD Inc. |
Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
Kevin,
The goodguys show was crazy. A very big turn out! Had alot of people check out my 62, alot of them with offers to trade. I checked out that Accuair suburban. That system is sweet. Pricey but sweet! You will have a good time at the show, make sure you bring your sunscreen. I'm burnt! Right on later. Tony from Norcal |

Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
I went down for a few hours today and it was one of the better shows I have been to their in the past few years as far as turn out.
I made some good contacts as well that may turn into future endeavors. I am leaning toward running the AccuAir suspension system for my Air management on the Tahoe. Both Reno (Accuair) and ART have great systems and I have run allot or ART's stuff in the past but the one main feature I like about the Accuair system over ART's is that they monitor and adjust the system every 5 sec. when not moving and every 45sec when driving so it is always keeping you right were you want to be. ART's leveling system turns off so to speak after the ride height is set so even it you load or unload weight it will not change until you manually tell it to. Accuair will monitor and adjust as needed during your entire drive. Plus their heads up display is just Bad Ars looking and their entire system is water proof so all you need to have in the vehicle is a small DIN plug for the controller. So Reno (Accuair) it was very nice putting a face to the name and i look forward to joining up with you in the future. Also I spoke with Clint from KP and he gave me some great info on my bag mounting for the rear of this 6 link C4 set up. All in all it was a good day. Kevin LFD Inc. |
Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
I had some time to kill tonight so I started on the toe in brace. For doing it by hand I think it turned out fairly well. The double shear plate will have the oval like my logo has then it gets buried by a gas tank and set 1" off the ground so no one will ever see it, time well spent:lol:

Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
Now figure this one out. UPS takes 7 days to deliver a 2day air package from AZ and today fed-x not only found my house but they also did not want to leave my rims on the porch so they left them by the back door according to the door tag. So I look out our side door were UPS will leave stuff and nothing. Then I look out the back door were my 85lbs Rotty is laying with two 22" coy rims and the best part was I could not find any blood any were:lol: I will be having one of the 305/40R-22's mounted up in the next day or so for test fit and bag mounts.

Funny story when the front rims were dropped off I was in the house for a few minutes but I left a note on the front door letting him know I was out in the shop. I was walking though the kitchen and I see a Fed-X driver standing in my shop and Otto laying right in front of him just giving off the lowest growl I have heard. I asked what happened and was told that Otto was just fine until he tried to walk out:lol: But it turns out ether Otto remembered him and he remembered the word I told him to say or auto is just a male slut for big rims:lol: Kevin LFD Inc. |

Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
What width are your back rims if you are running 305 tires? I thought the 22" Coys were only offered in 9" width? By the way I have been following this whole thread and love the work you have done. Wish I could afford to do a Tahoe for the family.

Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
3 Attachment(s)
They are only available in 9" but the 305/40/22 works just fine with a little bulge (just right IMO):

Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
ok, i have to go back and read. time to go home. didn't know this was going on. should look at the build section more often. I am sure i will be reading and seeing good work. I knew about the 4th door and that was it.
|
Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
Yep a 305 on a 9" rim is about max for that rim but it is in spec and looks great. The tire is right at 11" out side and the rim is 10" out side so it is roughly a 1/2" bulge and Fry is right it just works. I did not want the Honda look were you can just see the lip of the rim from behind the car plus this way it is a built in wife Curb protector:lol: I have one mounted and I am working on mock up tonight so I will have some pics once I Plasma away a little more body:devil:
