Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Wow! Im loving the color of your truck.
My name is Gary. I too have a 72 Cheyenne Super Sport. Original color Med Olive/White/Med Olive.. although mine isn't a shorty, nor is it a 4x4. And currently in a thousand pieces, in shop, yard, garage. Guess I'm kinda biased on the colors.. LOL. Now that I think about its kinda weird and cool at the same time. |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Hey Gary;
Sounds like we have a couple of things in common...... This color scheme is my favorite, the green & white with the trim just pops. I had a swb stepside that was all the same green but that was just too much green for me. Mine was in pieces all over the place for many years until I got back at it a couple years ago. My plan is to have it on the road in the spring ! Good luck with your project ! Gary |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Gary, this is looking great so far. God I wish my project was that far along. I pm'd you a couple of questions.
Thanks, jeff. |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Hope you re back to full recoverary (is that a word)? Amazing work, and attention to detail.
One of my fav. trucks, color scheme has always worked for me, but sadly mine is dark olive green, i think.... Keep up the quality work, i ll be checking in from time to time:lol: |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Thanks Jeff & Jim !
I pretty much back to normal, just a bit weaker but that's coming back.... Jeff I replied to your questions the best I could at the moment, if you need more info let me know. I haven't touched the truck for a couple weeks now, been getting ready for winter, stacking firewood, cleaning up leaves ( TONS of leaves ). But I'll be back to the truck soon, sometimes a break from the project is a good thing. Gary |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Gary. thanks for the PM'd answers. Got a question here on your sway bar mods I want to clarify. On the drivers side the front bolt is where the one rivet was removed for the Steering box reinforcement plate. Where is the rear bolt? Can't see it in the picture I copied. Does it line up to the rivet hole in the x-member or did you drill a new hole? Looks like the passenger side both bolted in new holes in front of the x-member.

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Jeff;
If I remember correctly the drivers side I was able to use 2 existing rivet holes and the Passenger side I drilled 2 new holes. Gary |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Hey Gary! Just checkin in. Made any progress lately or staying in from the cold?
Have a good holiday. Chris |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Hey Chris:
My knee had finally gotten back to the point where I could get around and do things again, got all caught up with the firewood and leaf clean up, and I suffered yet another health setback ! On Sunday, just before Thanks Giving, I notice something wasn't quite right with my right leg & arm, my fine motor skills were not good, I had 2 incidences that day where I couldn’t control them correctly. When I had the 2nd episode I had my girlfriend take me to the hospital. Turns out I was having a small stroke !!!! Yikes, what a scare !!!! I was rushed into Mass General Hospital in Boston, where I spent the next couple of days. Long story short, I’m just about back to 100% and working again. Close call ! My place of work is shutting down for 2 weeks over the Holidays so I plan on spending some of that time working on the truck. Gary |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Hope all is well from here on out with your health.
Kyle P.S. Subscribed a couple weeks ago sweet project. Keep up the good work!! |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Thanks Kyle !!!!
I sure hope that was the last of my heath issue for a while !!! It sucks getting old, but it sure beats the alternative !!!! Gary |

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Funny, I'd never gotten the impression that either of you (Gary & Chris) were particularly old. Those mini-strokes are scary business and hopefully won't be an issue now that it has your attention. Hoping your health remains good now and can't wait to see your holiday progress.

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Thanks Chris !!
I'm taking this latest issue as a wakeup call to take better care of myself. Cut down on the alcohol, get my cholesterol down and exercise regularly !!! I'm not over weight, I'm fairly fit, but my body chemistry just doesn't take care of cholesterol !!! So I'm on meds for that. I was very lucky this time that I didn't suffer any long term or permanent side effects ! You just never know !!! You enjoy your Holidays also Chris.... and the same to everyone else !!! Gary |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Hey Rick !
Well I'm 54 wich I don't consider to be old, but it's not young either..... "LOL" It's more your health, if you don't have your health, you don't have much !!! God willing there will be progress pictures coming soon !!! Gary |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Dang - you are old! I'll be 54 in a couple months. You are right, it is more about how well you take care of yourself than your actual age. So take care, and have a great (and productive) holiday.

Looking forward to your holiday progress- glad you didn't have any permanent damage! Saw a t-shirt once that said "50 isn't old... if you're a tree! Just joking around- (I'm 48 btw)

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Thanks for sharing and glad to hear your doing better! I'm 54 as well and i always seem to be battling something, thanks for the wake up call.

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Yeah, lately it's been a struggle, one thing after the other. But as far as I know there's only one way to avoid getting old, and I don't want that, so I'll deal with the aches and pains, heed the serious warnings and keep moving !
I'm thinking about getting a book called "Eat To Life". It's supposed to be the only diet proven to get your cholesterol down by as much as 33%. I hate taking the statin drugs, they just don't agree with me.... Man I'm going to miss my burgers & steaks..... "LOL" |

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
I get the muscle & joint pains.
I got the 2 books today, one explains everything and the other is basically a recipe or cook book. It's basically becoming a vegetarian ! Doubt that will work for me, but I'll try it for a while to get my cholesterol down then go from there.... |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Hope it goes well for you

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Very nice build. Like the color. Green is really starting to grow on me. We built a 70 Chevelle SS that was an original dark green car. We added a little blue to the green and the car just popped. But now the light greens are to my liking.

Great job on the shop cleanup! I have the exact same problem right now. You've inspired me to go out and look at my mess to see if I feel like organizing today! :lol:
Your truck is turning out great! |

Thanks ryanroo;
Well it's time to get going again on the truck, and my garage is just a single stall under the house so there's not much room, cleaning it helped a lot. I found out that a thermostat by-pass hose is needed with any sbc with Vortec heads so I'm going to take care of that before I forget ! Problem being I didn't know this prior to buying and installing my High volume reverse rotation aluminum water pump. This water pump also has no provisions for the heater return hose so I'm looking at drilling and tapping the side of the water pump about in the center of the picture in the flat area. ( If there's enough meat ) What do you guys think ??? |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
I had no room left to push anything !!! "LOL"
|
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Gary, i read that thread and my take on it was if you have a functioning heater, flow would be ok to prevent steam pockets. But, weren t they also saying you had to drill the block in the right spot......keep the pics coming as i could use some direction on how to address this problem
Nice clean shop, i ll try to follow suite:lol: |
Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Jim;
Yes on the heater, but if you had A/C and the water shut off valve then you either needed a by-pass hose or drill holes in the thermostat itself. Most blocks have the water by-pass hole, it's the vortec heads that don't have the water crossover passage in them and you could build steam, over heat the heads and possibly crack a head. So I'm going to put the by-pass hose in, that goes from the intake manifold to the top of the water pump, but my issue is I have no connection on the suction side of the pump for my heater. Gary |
