Re: My version of the s10 swap
A few more pictures for today, then updates next weekend when I pick the cab up from the body shop!!!
I figured I had better get the rear fenders to take in to get done next. I tried all the acid treatments and still could not get rid of the surface rust (I wanted to get rid of it, not "treat" it) on the insides and flanges of the rear fenders, so I went back to the tried and true method...blasting. I used black beauty this time in 30-60 grit with a small pot blaster and a normal compressor (vs. industrial equipment I used before) and it turned out really nice. Got rid of the rust and didn't warp the panels from the peening. Today I put some epoxy on them and they're pretty much ready to go to the body shop. http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...psw20lbrtq.jpg http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...psstlwscm5.jpg http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...psta3i8xwg.jpg http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps0oev6gbp.jpg They aren't as nice as they look in the pictures. Both will need a small amount of filler work but nothing more than a small wipe down. http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...psrkujvch1.jpg http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps0ugs9ft4.jpg http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...psc6oq1rwu.jpg |

Re: My version of the s10 swap
Update time! I have the truck back at home, and very excited to be putting it back together for the final time! So far, it is going great. I guess that is the positive of it having been together and apart so many times before. Very happy to start to see my piles of parts disappearing!

Re: My version of the s10 swap
At home:
http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...psclguojse.jpg First project was the seat. I wanted to fit it one more time before taking it to the upholstery shop to get covered. Since this is a different seat than I had in it before, I wanted to be sure. It fits perfect. http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...pslkuaxv9n.jpg Upholstery guy recommended carpet on the back of the seat vs. vinyl. He said if it was vinyl it might stick to the back of the cab on a hot day and possibly tear if I fold it forward, since it will touch the back of the cab I decided he was probably right. http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...psvkuavnsp.jpg Here's the color of vinyl I picked out. It'll be pleated, and we'll do the door panels and visors to match. http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...psdmqgijp6.jpg Before I started hanging things for good I wanted to put down some sound deadner. I know there are different opinions of brand, but this is what my dad used in his Chevelle with very good results, so I'm sticking with what I know. http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...pse9whs9hw.jpg http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...pslom3wacn.jpg http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps4q50nngf.jpg http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...pszwbqjvai.jpg I also picked up some Underhood black paint, so as I prep things to go back in place I'm giving them a quick coat to clean it up. Looking forward to starting in on the wiring! |
Re: My version of the s10 swap
nice congrats. ahhhh yeah carpet is good idea on back of seat. My vinyl bled off a little on my white cab wall.

Re: My version of the s10 swap
Looking good...Jim

Re: My version of the s10 swap
That is really turning out NICE! Can't wait to see it running down the road.
|
Re: My version of the s10 swap
That's great that things are coming together. The project shows progress AND you get to free up space in the garage.
|
Re: My version of the s10 swap
love that caramel color for the interior!

Re: My version of the s10 swap
That is sharp. I can't afford to make my truck look that nice. I will spend my budget on the rest of it. Probably the outside will look more of a ratrod type. Do you have any photos of the engine mounts. I have read that the engine has to move back 7 inches for a V8, 350. I plan to use a 4.3L V6 off the S10, does it have to move back 7 inches?

Re: My version of the s10 swap
Thanks, Bluejeep, I found the earlier posts on the mounts. I will move it back 7". Do you have any tips on the 4x4 rear axle swap?

Re: My version of the s10 swap
Very nice work blue jeep!
I will prolly be a 4 year vet on my build aswell, but it'll be right, like yours. I enjoyed this read and looking forward to seeing your finished product. |
Re: My version of the s10 swap
I just noticed on one of the photos, did you use the original brackets for the running board?

Re: My version of the s10 swap
Today's progress, more parts installed for good. Got a decent start on the wiring and mounted the A/C plenum. Also mounted the outside door handles, really liking how things are coming together!
http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...pselhmhvmf.jpg Test fitted one of the gauges: http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...psbvkztxhl.jpg http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...pshi7rogpy.jpg |

Re: My version of the s10 swap
Going to look at a donor truck today. Your truck in coming along.

Re: My version of the s10 swap
Little bit here, little bit there...that's how my progress has been happening lately.
Working on finishing up the radiator support and wiring the 5.3. Started with paper, got it to fit really well and then transferred to 20 gauge. http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...psjzter0vu.jpg http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...psdbs9kfwu.jpg http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...psrs1shfbu.jpg http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...psasadm3ng.jpg http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...psphrnmee7.jpg http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...pssvtah61z.jpg http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...psp9l2vf9a.jpg And this afternoon I picked up these, really happy with how they turned out: http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...psqbldqxqz.jpg And the door panels: http://i869.photobucket.com/albums/a...psly9nsfq5.jpg |
Re: My version of the s10 swap
nice fab work, interior looks great.
|
Re: My version of the s10 swap
What gauge metal did you use?
|
Re: My version of the s10 swap
Nice color on the interior. I plan on using something very close (already have the seat), but I'm not sure what the exterior color will be.
Hey, BlueJeep, I'm just getting to my fuel system now. Did you retain all the EVAP tank and lines for emissions, and retain the required wiring in the harness? |
Re: My version of the s10 swap
Lookin good and the seats turned out real nice.

Yes, I retained the EVAP tank, lines, and wiring. From all the reading I did, there is no good reason to get rid of it. It keeps the fuel that evaporates from the tank retained so it can be burned, rather than floating away into the atmosphere. My tune on the ECM I believe turned off the diagnostics for it, but it will still function. Someday I might have that turned back on....so I know if it ever goes bad. Quote:

Re: My version of the s10 swap

Re: My version of the s10 swap
Well how in the world have I been missing out on this awesome build. Really enjoyed the great fab work. Tagging along for the rest.

Re: My version of the s10 swap
I know everyone changes out the rear axle off a 4x4 blazer for the extra 4" in width. What about using 2" billet spacers on each side, of the stock S101, should be the same effect, right? I plan to use this truck as a daily driver, i am trying to save as much money as possible. I plant to keep the 4.3L V6.
|
Re: My version of the s10 swap
I didnt use spacers or a 4x4 axle on my 47, just ordered wheels with close to a zero offset and I think it looked great.
gorgeous interior work blujep! |
