Mickey Thompson Sportsman Pro Tires:
In the ’90s, you either ran an illegal set of slicks on your Pro Street ride or a fat set of Mickeys. Mickey Thompson held more than 480 international racing records and was a pioneering driver, engineer, and racing promoter. In 1963, engineer Gene McManus left Goodyear and started Max Trac Tire Inc., using Mickey’s name as the DBA and paying him royalties for a new line of Mickey Thompson racing tires. The company revolutionized the tire business with innovative, low-profile rubber and created the tire that changed the street car world, the DOT-legal Sportsman Pro. This tire was epic because it was the widest street tire you could buy in 1991, and you could let the air out for that wrinkle-wall effect—something every drag race–worshipping fairground cruiser could appreciate. Pro Street lovers no longer had to settle for running sketchy, 33-inch slicks on the street, and Sportsman Pro tires had a drag compound that hooked on the strip. It was the best of both worlds. http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/g..._hall_of_fame/ http://images47.fotki.com/v422/photo..._edited-vi.jpg http://offroadaction.ca/wp-content/u...eyThompson.jpg |

I picked up the truck with the frame as a package, frame was built by Jim Meyers Racing in Oregon...Previous owner had it custom built, added the Currie 9" with strange centre, Wilwwod slotted and drilled brakes, QA1 coil overs, had the fuel cell built with twin Aeromotive pumps through 1/2" lines to the front..Super nice work.....Then he ran out of money ..I was in the right place at the right time and picked it up for less than what it cost him buy the twin Aeromotive pumps and plumb the frame...I have a 72 Cheyenne short bed I have been wanting to pro street for some time but didn't want to hack up a nice truck..I'll drop the cab on, remove the bed floor and build a custom inner bed supporting it properly but not cut up the original stuff in any way..I've added pics of the Cheyenne

Re: Pro Street Trucks/Cars pics!!! im in love with the fatty tires!!
Based on all the truck in this thread with FAT tires I figure this is the best place to ask my question. Currently, what is the best 31x18/18.5 tire for street driving??? Hoosier Pro Street, M/T Sportsman SR, or some other tire. Looking for street use not racing. I have Kumho Power Star 785 165/80-15s up front. I plan on this car being a clear weather car but I do live in Florida and it does rain here from time to time.
So I appreciate the help. Plus, There are some NICE trucks in this thread. |

Re: Pro Street Trucks/Cars pics!!! im in love with the fatty tires!!
I have the Hoosier Prostreet Radials. They are really nice for driving but its a very hard rubber. Easy to spin. Should last a long time though

Theres a place for prostreet and real street and hot rod and rat rod all of it has its place . And I for one think it was done nicely , I certainly wouldnt change it its perfect for that look. Around here if its tubbed it better run low 10's or 9s in the 1/4 or your just a poser and get laughed out the streets. That truck would fit in around here just fine. Me personaly I dont allow trends to dictate what my truck looks like or the size wheels I run. Traction dictates what size a rear tire i run , if i can get it hooked with 10 inchs thats what its running if it takes 12s, so be it and if i have to run a 15 inch slick to hook it up than guess whats going to be under the back. Frankly I think more pro street tubbed vehicles look like crap becaouse they either go to low or tuck the tires to far under making it look like you could push it over for lack of outward tracking. But like i said theres a place for it all . Honestly if anything Ide have guessed people would have complained about the flags for excess wind drag , NOT the fatty meats out back without tubs.lol ;) |

What size wheels/ back spacing and tires are you guys running with stock rearends and non Narrowed frame? I'm thinking about redoing my 67 prostreet panel. Its on a narrowed frame wth narrowed 9" 31/18.5/15 .
