Re: What did you do to your truck today!
On my 1974 GMC,, I swapped the 3:73 12 bolt rear end for a 3:31 geared 12 bolt rear end,,plus completely re-did the brakes.
Man what a difference! My little 250 6 cylinder went from buzzin' 3 grand down to a little over 2. |
Re: What did you do to your truck today!
As the weather has been too rubbish to finish up the engine wiring I've been ripping off the tints from the windows between rain showers, the side windows were almost limo black, a real PITA to drive after dark and also illegally dark now here so they have to go before I get tugged by Plod and made to rip them off at the roadside. The rear window had only had the two sliding bits tinted and obviously at a different time to the sides as it was much thinner and had gone purple with age and the side windows were not well done and actually had a patch on them. The film came off easily, the glue has used up half a can of cellulose paint thinners so far to remove but it is coming off nicely.
Looked cool when parked up but not worth the hassle. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...k/S6000582.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y29...ntspeakers.jpg |

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Removed the alt and ps pump along with all the associated bracketry and the water pump pulley of the '69. Removed the alt, ps pump, A.I.R. pump, a/c compressor, water pump pulley and crank pulley off the burb. Gonna start mock up tomorrow, gotta figure out a cool/clean way to alter the ps brackets to work though.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Today nothing, yesterday I moved the 67 so I could mow where it was sitting and put the rear end down hill so the water would drain from the bed. Unfortuneatly it only moves in reverse. The 72 is still sitting in the same spot with the front wheels off and up on blocks, don't have to worry about it's bed holding water, it's rusty enough to be self draining!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Today, I started the '67 swb stepper and moved it out of the garage so I could work on the ole Jubilee tractor.
I looked at the '71 and said darn one of these days will be your turn. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Nothing, but I did spend yesterday watching a bunch of historic race cars roaring around a sprint track includining Nuvolaris 1939 Silver Arrow Auto-union, now that made the hairs on your arms stand up when it went past, possibly the most valuable car in private hands today apparently!. , 78 Williams F1, BRM,s Maserati Birdcage, Lister Jags, Metro 6R4, assorted Ferraris ex Tom Walkingshaw Jag XJS, E type lightweight, Gerry Marshals Baby Bertha, Cobra plus historic bikes from one that was 100 years old to 70's GP bikes via a bizzare german four seater! There was Helicopter flying displays, flypasts by a BAC Strikemaster jet and the very last ever Hurricane to come off the production line, tank displays including a current challenger, followed by an open air classical music concert whilst having a picnic, with an orchestra, military bands, pipers, a fly past during ride of the Valkyries by the RAF Black Cats helicopter display team and a firework finale to the 1812 overture with real artillery fire from three light guns of the Royal Mercian regiment. Great family day out!
Today its raining so no work outside. |

I took my truck to the local Car Show/Cruise Night... Had beautiful weather all day but when we went to cruise the downtown a Sever Thunderstorm rolled through... I got to sit through hurricane force winds, possible tornado, hail, and a torrential downpour in my truck... All I have to say is that these trucks are TANKS!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
I drove the '72 on it's first decently long trip with the new motor-60 miles round trip. I had to take a bunch of left over wood from putting up my fence to my parent's house. The truck drove great and with I believe a 2.90 rear gear and the saginaw 3spd, it felt like I was doing about 1500rpms at 45mph (no tach).

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
My work was actually yesterday and today. I installed carpeting, replaced both window regulators, tinted the windows, installed a stereo with a DVD player, put on new armrests, and installed a new gauge cluster and new gauges. I still need to put in the new dash pad but that can wait until next weekend. It was a busy but productive weekend. Just wish it wasn't over a 100 degrees.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!
Broke one of the AC controller tips that the looped part of the defrost cable attaches to...took it in and out several times and finally pieced together one that functions, looks ok but could still work better. A whole lot of time spent/not much progress, it was one of those days! Hopefully tomorrow I will get more accomplished! Roger

Scored a nice seat to replace the wasted old POS in my 67. Came out of a 1990 regular cab truck. Fits like a glove and the mount brackets fit the floor like they were meant to be there.

The last time I did the transmission was four years ago. I Pieced that gearbox together from three broken ones. I'm surprised that it lasted as long as it did. I had to buy one this time. I was lucky to find this one with a nice new shifter. My old worn out rattly Hurst Comp Plus Had definitely outlived its expectations. There's no telling the millions of gear changes it performed. The new unit works great. This is the third tranny I've had to install in my truck thirteen years. The Saginaws aren't the strongest out there, but I've had pretty good luck with them. The first I paid $100 for at a J/Y. I put new synchros, and bearings in it before I ever used it.(additional $120) The second was the pieced together gearbox, and now this one. |
