Re: 1968
Today I took it easy. I am nursing a head acke today. I took apart the braces for the steps. And the front bumper. It came off a 71/72 truck. It is in great shape no dents or rust. I will use it untill I find a 67/68 bumper. The same way for the rear bumper. It also came off of a 71/72 truck.

Started patching bottom of door. Thanks BOMP for giving me the idea of fixing the bottm of door with out spending money. Sometimes a person needs to step out of the box or yet look on this forum for a simple answer to a problem. You can see where I cut out the bottom of the door to accommodate the patch # one.

There still patch# 2 to do and repair the speaker hole that someone cut in the door.

Re: 1968
I use cereal box card board to trace out my patterns Or any thicker type construction paper.
If you get new sheet metal buy 18 gauge for the doors. 16 gauge will work to but I use that for the floor patches. If you have scrap parts layin around that are pretty solid I usually hit those first. Remember to take your time on patch work. Tack, tack, tack. Try to shy away from running any beads. Wanna keep the heat down. Good luck. |

Re: 1968
I also will be picking up some 18 gage metal for patching. I need to fix the specker holes in the doors. The other door has the same hole where someone cut for speckers.
I took apart the rear brake light and step braces getting them ready for blasting. Alone with a few other small parts. |

I also welded and bondo the holes in the door where the west coast mirrors were. There was a small dent by the door handle I fixed it also. It looked like the door got away from someone in the wind.

Well, whereshould I start. Finshed sanding the rear fender where the bondo was applied. Primed it so the rust will not form on it till I get time to prime the whole truck with K2 primer. Here is a picture of one of my little herpers.

Re: 1968

Then I welded the end caps on the bed sides. Still need to do a little magic so they can be primed. I am going to sand blast them first. Then a slight bondo to cover all my sins.

Re: 1968
I need someone to tell me where the center bed rail on a 1968 stepside shorty goes. I installed the others and the center will stick up above the rest of the bed rails. I put a 6 ft. level across the bed rails and the center want work. Am I doing something wrong. Or maybe over looking something or over thinking it.
|
Re: 1968
Today, I finshed welding up the end caps on the bed sides. All done with that small project. Except sand blasting them and a small bit of bondo on the end caps. Then I wire wheeled the drivers side bed side. Going to sand blast them when I return from Dennis Truck Parts. In St. Petersburg, Fl. He has a lot of my parts in so I am going to pick them up tomorrow. Let you know what I have tomorrow Night.
|
Re: 1968
For a wood stepside bed You should have a total of 4 cross sills, 1 bed reinforcement strip and 1 rear cross sill, refer to page 31 of the online LMC Truck catalog for a picture and parts listing.

Today I went and picked up some of my parts in Pineallas Part, Fl. I was a little disappointed. The price he has on the item is not what I had to pay. He charged me for his shipping. There should not be any shipping if I pick them up. Well I only got a few items, so now I am going to serchfor another dealer.

So, when I returned I sarted working on the core support. It had a few pin holes on the bottom. I welded another plate over the bottom . I Prime it and paint it black.t probably would not have made any difference but now I know. Going to sand blast it tomorrow If I have time.
Also A picture of my adophed boys play? working? They seem to have fun so what is the difference. |
