Re: 61K10 build
my idler shaft is worn some also. the big gear had some side to side play. might be better than yours? you are welcome to any of the 221 parts if needed no charge as i will never use them. gota keep these old k10 runnin. from your pics you are young and i am old at 65 and this is my last tk build lol! I have one more tt500 yamaha to finish.
If you worked for Pioneer/F/D you went by my house everyday to go to Holiday market. one day you guy's got water from a hydrant in front of my place at shangra-la lane. Kimble |
Re: 61K10 build
On my idler shaft the splines on the helical cut gear are what we're trashed. I just welded it all up with a hard stainless tig rod. Now running a 3/16 slot cutter in a vertical mill to re cut the splines. It might be a crude fit. But it'll due. I'm running the 292 i6. So it's not making 500+ hp or anything nuts. The pioneer FD. I unfortunately was there for a short while. Employment didn't work out due to where I lived. Oh well. Very nice hard working crew though. Really wish I could have stuck with that department.

well got the steering box mounted up and could not get any power assist out of it. this isn't the first time i have replaced a p/s box. I bleed the system as you should, had the ft wheels off the ground, had about 30oz of p/s fluid in the system and yet no power assist. Could not for the life of me figure what was wrong and was getting pissed about my new AGR steering box that cost a bunch. well you know what happens when it turns into a (pita) you get out the BFHammer lol! Banged on it a few times, sides and input/output shaft and guess what? It magically had power assist to the wheels. What happened to quality control in the good old USA-----Hope it keeps working--on to my other problem!

Re: 61K10 build
Pim--I sand blasted my frame myself, came out ok. I didn't have a trailer to take it to my buddy who blasted my body parts, plus it's a 4hr drive round trip to his shop. I was going to take my springs off and take them apart but got tired of working on it. Yes springs are a bit of $$$. Maybe just pull them apart and clean and new bushings and pins if needed.

Re: 61K10 build
Just ordered my rebuild kit for the sm420 from Novac. the fun begins again!
|
Re: 61K10 build
Kimble! I have a bunch of the bearings and stuff for the sm420 been sitting in a box for the past couple years since I got rid of my sm420. I'd give 'em to you for free. Let me know if you want them.
|
Re: 61K10 build
Jason--I just ordered a rebuild kit from Novac! thanks anyway. I still have a bunch of stuff i will bring down in probably late March or April for ya. don buy a new steering damper as i have a new one and another new shock. didn't fit my c/n axle like i wanted so i used my org with a new shock.

Got my sm420 bearing kit from novac, not to enthused about pulling the trans-----also getting rid of the cheap mirrors that vibrate even at idle--what a joke. Putting some west coast JR's on, don't know which ones yet. some $$$ on e-bay, but old school that would match the tk.
|
Re: 61K10 build
Yep I know what your saying about those Factory shakers had them on my 70 Burb and you couldn't see anything clearly for the shaking.. I gave away a pair of old school west coast painted mirrors to someone that was building a truck for their son that was 16, Heck I even payed for the shipping...
|
Re: 61K10 build
Bought some from summit for $50 can't beat the price. I think they are like the ones TJ put on his tk.

Re: 61K10 build

Re: 61K10 build
I like those. Looks good especially on the cost $$.. I assumed you were going to do the tranny and rear end at the same time. Oh well, just keep plugging, can't be anything else after that. :)

Nice mirrors! Got them on mine to! If you can't fix it with a hammer you got and electrical problem mate. :chevy:
|
Re: 61K10 build
Mitch--the rear end is back together and is quiet as far as i can tell as the t/f case and trans making noise.
|
Re: 61K10 build
Well did a little more troubleshooting on my trans noise. I decided to ck the t/f case linkage again as i had trouble adjusting when putting everything back together. It's pretty crude in design but simple. re-adjusted it some as i had a problem getting it out of 4wd-h into 2h. seams the noise was because 4h was rubbing 2h(adjust problem) drove it and no noise!!! speedo is off as i don't know what tires came on it. Have 10.50-15"s on it now at 31" tall. also the speedo gear (in the t/f case) is steel, not plastic. took the wife for her first ride yesterday to a PUb/burger house about a mile away. made it back home and the noise never came back. sure didn't want to pull that trans------------
|
Re: 61K10 build
That is great news! It usually pays off to start troubleshooting with the easy stuff first.
Bet that little joy ride to the burger stand was awesome! How did she like it? |
Re: 61K10 build
Outstanding!!!!
|
Re: 61K10 build
Jason---she has a hard time getting in lol! I also have a box of bearings like you-------also put in a new Retro sound radio, need some rear speakers now.

I vote for the flat hood....I like the earlier hood also but they seem at home on the 60-63 trucks, probably because the design carries through to the double hump dash. With that said it boils down to what you like plus you can switch them on a whim when 12 of your buddies come to help lift it  |
Re: 61K10 build
oh shoot. Wrong thread that was Ment for my build thread. Sorry kimble. Not meaning to thread jack. :/. I'll try and delete the last message

Re: 61K10 build

Re: 61K10 build
Thanks 1963c-10--It's not perfect bodywork wise (it was really beat up) but i can live with it as i am not a body man or painter. I just try to do everything myself. I have messed with trucks/cars all my life, and I'm 66 now--so it's been awhile lol! I have been watching your builds and looking good of course. (wish i had a 348 for my tk) like gold out here. looking forward for the rest of your builds.

Haven't did much on my tk. pretty much done (except rebuild the trans) works ok for now, just a little noisy (the whole drive-train is noisy lol) I did put in a retro sound radio. the red wire is for my walk-man. have to run it in my ash tray.
Just love this sign---------- |
Re: 61K10 build
Nice....I see they have changed their radio design some since the one I bought in 2009.
|
Re: 61K10 build
Love the sign. Hah. Hey I'm going to around your area Thursday maybe Friday. Think you'll be around?
|
Re: 61K10 build
1963c-10---they have a few different styles of radio's. mine is one of the cheapest ones.
Matt--I will be home both days--I'm right at Shangra-la lane--just before holiday market on mount aukum rd (hwy16) |
