So just keep it straight I have 1-1970 c10 my (17 year old drives #2 son) 2-1968 k10 Original hulk (my 16 year olds #3) 3-1970 k20 which is what this build thread is on (hulk build) 4-And a 1970 k10 that I am going to sell cheap. Should I start another thread for the motor/trans/tcase and front end replacement to power disk on the 68 k10? |
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Love it when you can pull parts off the shelf and it's exactly what you need! Or they inspire a complete build just cause you can't part with them (been there).
Having a project gets expensive and having multiple projects, Ouch! Keep up the great work and I'd follow more threads Scott. |
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Thanks Brett
Well since the hulk project won't be ready for my son to drive. We are just going to update the original 68 hulk. I found a complete 70k10 lwb. I am going to sell and take the money from it to upgrade the trans and t-case on the 68. Power disk brakes up front and automatic unless I can find a nv4500 out of a 4x4. But keep the rest bone stock. Oh we are adding power steering. Going to put the hulk project back a little but be worth it. I will have 2- Look for a hulk build #2. Stock looking hulk!!! :) |
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
OK so I sold the #4 truck above in post #482. so now I have funds to order more stuff....
just to keep track 1-1970 c10 my (17 year old drives #2 son) 2-1968 k10 Original hulk (my 16 year olds #3) 3-1970 k20 which is what this build thread is on (hulk build) 4- CASH lol! |
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Congrats on the sale cash is good!

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Hey guys sorry but been busy trying to get the spring cleaning out of the way.
I did order my AC system so I could get the evaporator mocked up to the firewall install studs and cut the hole for the lines. I went with Old Air products. I liked the way inside mounts and how it doesn't kill my glove box, price was good too, also the Alan Grove pulley system sold me over the Kwik system as some have had problem with. It is supposed to be delivered today. I will try and snap a few pictures. |

Look what fell into my lap today? Is it worth changing the tach to v8 or selling the whole thing? I have a good bezel I can change since the one pictured is from a c50.
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
I would for sure, tach vac nice score plus somebody might need the 6cyl tach if it works, could possibly recoup some ca$h!
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
I wouldn't mind if that fel in my lap ether for my 67 6 banger build. :)
There is a little thing (resistor?) on the back of the tac held on by 2 nuts that can be changed out for 8 cyl, they are different colors but i cant recall which is which. The problem is finding one if you don't already have a tac bezel or selling your old unit if you rob the part off of it. If ya do swap that thing out i wouldn't mind buying the 6 banger unit from you. |
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
OK guys.....
So I was thinking about adding this to the green truck. Can I just buy a replacement 8 Cylinder Tach? On the back it just has 2 studes sticking out with spades for the tach harness i will double check for a resister. or is the resister on the inside? Swamp rat, I will let you know if I sell it for sure. Updated... I also received my Old Air products AC system. I will be installing the mounting hardware on the inside so you cant see the plate on the outside. |

There are 8 cyl tach's and 6 cyl tach's, so you would have to find the 8 cyl replacement, I'm interested in the 6 cyl tach if you decide to sell. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ory+V8+tach+V6 |
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
On the back it has red plastic spacers under the studs, but I think according to the other posts that the Tach has writing on the back indicating which one it is. I forgot to take a picture of the backside of the Tach. I will check today..
I think I am going to start another thread for this truck Just need a name. any ideas??? |

Thanks Brett any idea what resister???
I took a look at the tach. It is an 8 cyl. So good for me. Bad for swamprat. I will be cleaning it up and replacing the bezel and I should be good to go. |
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Name..... Tachy Nah...
Good for you on the tach tho, i know i read about a resistor somewhere but couldn't find where.. |
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
This maybe the thread Mike was thinking about http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=518458
I'm not an expert on these by any means but here's a link to a tach filter they say is required for the repro tachs they sell. http://www.classicparts.com/1947-72-.../#.VtxF6Mv2aHt |
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Hey Brett thanks for the link. I have not seen that one. I am going to try just cleaning up this cluster, install it and see what happens.
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Even if you cook it repro's are not that expensive. Also I was told by a cluster restorer who is a forum member that he prefers the newer repro tach for his restorations as the old originals can be sketchy.

Got a chance to pull the Old Air evaporator (under dash piece) out of the box to check the mounting brackets. I removed the studs form the engine bay side bracket and welded them on inside of the firewall.

Here are a few more pictures of what I did to the bracket. I will take a few more to show what I did to the backside of the bracket that bolts to the cab side of the firewall.
Oh and the sharpie writing on the back of the mount was incorrect... |
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Reading your rocker repair its dully noted that the passenger side had less of a gap between the rocker and cab corner and you used an OEM rocker, i have a bit of a gap as well but an going to have to live with it, just wondering if you will be filling the gap with something?
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Mike that is a great question.... I plan to fill with something but not sure what. That is where the body shop guy comes in. I am not sure if 3M seam sealer is the best or some epoxy like what is used on the drip rails. Please let em know if you have any ideas.

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Got a chance to work on the this truck a little today. 1 thing that always bugged me was the swaybar mount. In all the pictures I have seen and all the different ways of mounting. I had to just get the welder out and let in burn.

Got a chance to install the old air ac compressor. I painted the Alan Grove brackets to match the cast aluminum of the rest of the engine accessories

Another picture of the ac conpressor.
Not sure if the refrigerant lines go out the top or the side. But I just have it in the bracket just to see how it looks and not tighten down yet. |
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Was able to clean up the front swaybar mounts and get them installed. But forgot to take a picture. It looks good!
Next is to get the hole cut in the core support for the condenser so I can get it painted and installed on the frame. |
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Nice work!
|
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Nice welding too...

Thanks for the comments guys.
I got a chance to get the new idler pulley on so I could put the serpentine belt on. Also got a quick picture of the swaybar brackets. |

Nothing more exciting then a hole.....
Got the hole drilled in the radiator core support for the refrigerant lines to the condenser. |
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
Well I was able to get my son to help me today. We added all the gear oil to the front and rear diff's and ATF in the transfer case.
We also swapped brake pads from the D52's to the D153 must be 30% more pad surface. I figured that the Hulk could use it. I planned on taking a picture of the pad difference but forget. I just need to get the cab over to the body guy so he can sling some mud.... the roller is about as far as I can go with out sheet metal. |
Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
At least somebody got something done! LOL! I actually have a 3 day weekend and all i did was buy a couple items and some 2X2's to hopefully start building a little paint booth, and its not raining.....

Re: Project 68 k10 LWB..aka "The Hulk"
