What you need to know about drywall finishing is focus on feathering and don't sweat the ridges. As mark said, they scrape right off with the drywall knife or disappear instantly when sanding. I always sand. Just takes a few strokes and assures the best texture. For skim coat it's a good idea to mix a little water into the pre-mix for the smoothest coat and better feathered edges. I'll have pictures of plaster walls I restored coming up soon. Walls totally skim coated after repairing cracks and loose plaster.
Actually, I do have the before and during pictures now. There was '70s paneling before, then wallpaper to remove |

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Paul that thing also has a Model A front bumper on it which were nothing more than a couple of leaf springs married together.

The front looks to have been painted at one time. God only knows when? I'll re-spray it too. The paint is cheap enough. That Model A bumper is destined to be yard art now. That thing is HEAVY! It's lucky that I didn't drop it on my toe. That would have smarted and broke my toe. The weather has slowed me down but I'm trying to get as much done as I can before I go under the knife because I'm pretty sure I'll be laid up for awhile after that which sucks because I was just feeling better again. But it is what it is. Gotta do it. :smoke: |

I remember when I worked for the local Chevrolet dealer out of high school, the local CHP officers seemed to buy a lot of the hot rod cars off the used car lot. I guess those 440 Polara patrol cars spoiled them. |

Unusually warm weather . This is something I wasn’t planning on doing until spring the rear door on my camper was getting very bad hard to open and close and it finally got to the point I had no choice . Used pressure treated screwed and glued with construction adhesive. Letting it cure in the basement overnight and reinstall tomorrow

re-did the bumper on my "new" truck. it's not insured, so shouldn't count?
got 2 good bumpers on my stepper, but can't bring myself to start tearing apart a good running truck yet, so dolled up the old one for now. chrome is peeling... Attachment 2333198 some serious rust under the chrome...and a couple holes Attachment 2333200Attachment 2333199 welded up the holes, but it's pitted pretty bad, so some rust converter and a couple cans of spray bed liner Attachment 2333201Attachment 2333202 |

that helped it out a lot. I think a black bumper suits it better than chrome, since it was the only chrome on the truck
I posted this in the "Tractor Thread", with no response so far. Over the weekend I worked on a friend's '72 John Deere 2520 Row Crop tractor. The couple to the hydraulic pump blew apart and he says the pump has been leaking a long time. I believe that by the mess. Parts are ordered and I got it torn down and ready. |
Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Had to go get my wife her Tacoma wouldn’t shift press the clutch nothing . I get to where she is about 45 minutes from home check the clutch master and it’s empty . I put some fluid in it pumped the crap out of the clutch peddle just to get a puddle of fluid under the truck . Pretty sure the line blew called AAA and they tell me at least two hours . No way am I sitting there that long . I have her get in my truck I get into the Tacoma hit the clutch bypass switch and start it in 2nd gear . I was able to shift on the roll so I managed to get home with only stopping once and having to turn it off . Plenty of rolling stop signs

I guess I caught " pantry fever ". Got my list together, went to town, came home and built her some canning shelves. We heat and cool the garage anyway, so I may as well put it to good use.

My buddy and I moved my old poker machine into my river place just in case no one likes how I deal at the table. ;) We are both getting too old to move heavy objects especially up stairs. It collapsed the first table we put it on right onto my toes. . It's a heavy SOB. I still need to level it out but my toes and my back hurt so it's got to be tomorrow. Good enough for today.

Went to get my taxes done and stopped by the grocery store to see if the girlscouts were selling cookies yet. I got lucky and picked up two cases of mint. I only bought one case last year and ran out by October.

Girl Scout cookies are like Jack in the Box taco's. They aren't the greatest in the world but you can't pass them up or stop eating them.
Dang... Now I'm hungry. |

Wife and I went to the local grocery store, wife needed some things. She saw the girls' scouts and asked to be dropped off before them because "If I go by them, I end up buying their cookies". Well, I wanted cookies but not the guilt of buying them. So, I dropped her off, then pulled past them so she had to go by them on her way back to my truck. The wife stopped and got a box of mints and told me I did this on purpose. "Who, me. I moved to make room for the next guy." I got my cookies.

I had a vendor drop off some sandwiches and cookies. The cookies were the exact taste and texture as Thin Mints, just bigger. Never did find out what they were.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
The big cookies are great when they are cooked "just right". Peanut butter / chocolate chip/ oatmeal raison in that order for me. I also like chocolate oatmeal. Heck, I must be kin to the cookie monster.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
I had a stars aligned experience yesterday. I live on the western county line near the SE corner. I've been working on a gal's (Kate) family farmhouse just over the eastern county line near the NW corner. Yesterday she found an oak shelving unit for cheap on marketplace and asked if I could pick it up since the seller was in my town/postal area. The sellers were an old couple, so Kate followed me there to help move it out. This address was the next road over a ridge (Woodville Rd) from me, very close. What a beautiful property! Their lane went way way back through the woods following the East Branch of Linganore Creek, the same creek that originates near me and passes by across the road. It opened up to farmland with ponds and a beautiful house.
The woman greets us, a very sweet person, and we begin going about the deed. She mentioned her husband was sick and that's why he hadn't come out. I mentioned my friends had lived in the old place where the old Woodville Store was located, his woodshop, and that property was vast and had another tributary to Linganore Creek running through. They sold it a while ago and, shamelessly, the new owner leveled the house (part log) and the store. She said she went to school with Jeff. Then I asked her last name and I know the name well. I started naming names and she knew them all. I asked if her husband was Tom, and it's him. He is a good friend of my good friend's brother who's family I've been close with for a very long time. Their father just died this year at 103 years of age. Tom grew up on this farm, was a dairy farmer, and was a state representative from '83-'96. The family also owned the farm across the road when I first moved here and another farm between here and there. Kate is third generation on her farm and her grandfather who bought the place grew up on the farm next door, which the ladies discussed. So it's a small world after all! The woman said before Tom got sick he was very handy, did everything there, but she'd be needing someone to take care of things the way I take care of things for Kate. Once better acquainted, as we were about to leave, she softly mentioned "He's not going to make it" with such sadness in her voice. we gave our condolences and Kate said she'd message them my contact info. They have grown children, but I'd be more than willing to help out in any way. I guess her son/sons aren't so handy. so, that was what I did last evening. Quite an experience I had not expected |
